Why so many Warrior sticks

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure they started as their own stand alone lacrosse company. I think the founder was on a college team and had his dad (I think he owned or worked at a composite materials or some kind of aluminum factory) make shafts for him that eventually became the rage with the whole team, and he parlayed it into a lucrative lacrosse business. From there, they got bought up by New Balance and started absorbing small market hockey manufacturers like MiA and Innovative. Someone please correct me if I'm way off base.

His dad worked at a tubing shop and worked on titanium, and they developed a titanium shaft and that's what got Warrior on its way.

Morrow was also a hockey player, and actually a better hockey player than a lacrosse player. He picked up lax pretty late.

Yeah it was the TI lacrosse stick that got big. I've wanted to get a Warrior Dolomite for a while but spending 150 ish on a stick isn't reasonable for a college kid... if I do get some financial space I was thinking of getting the Dolo shaft and stick to give the stick some extra life, make sense or no?

New Balance owns Brine too.

From what I've heard the last couple days, they're in the process of adding another horse to their stable as we speak.

Specifically, as mentioned, New Jersey with Warrior, and the Flyers are heavily dominated by Nike Bauer. I mean Hell, they even got Briere to jump ship from Easton at the beginning of the season.

I noticed that too, a lot of Easton on the red wings last year, and now it seems like several guys made the switch to Warrior Franchise gloves all of a sudden. Wonder if Hossa has anything to do with that.

Guys on the team were wearing Warrior before Hossa showed up.

Yea because Lindstrom is also going from Easton to Warrior now, and I guess there were some sorta influence going on with Draper as well, because his blade pattern has been around forever for warrior.

Anyway, it's all business... something we couldn't really put in our 2 cents to change anyway

Ditto and ditto. The Wings are in a bit of a "Bauer" period as Easton's influence seems to have worn off, and Datsyuk's Reebok bump did the same, but Igor Larionov started using Innovative sticks when the Busch/Itech one-piece stick petered out a bit in the late 90's, and Sergei Fedorov (post-Nike), Kris Draper, Darren McCarty, Tomas Holmstrom, and Martin Lapointe went with Igor.

Draper, Holmstrom, and McCarty remained very loyal Innovative/Warrior guys till McCarty left, and while it's unclear whether Draper and McCarty have any investment in Warrior specifically, when they became a Detroit area-based company, you suddenly saw many more Warrior sticks in the Wings' room, their adoption by Brendan Shanahan, and even a few ads in the Red Wings' program ("Inside Hockeytown") and on their website. When Easton dropped Nicklas Lidstrom, he went to Warrior, Draper picked up the Warrior gloves after a long period of using Eagles, Chelios switched to a Warrior stick, and somebody must have twisted Holmstrom's arm to get him in Torspos.

The Wings probably have a strong NikeBauer presence because those guys hang around the Detroit area servicing the junior teams (and have deals with Kronwall, Lilja, and Samuelsson) and some Reebok stuff to a lesser extent because of Datsyuk, but Zetterberg's connection with Easton and the "local" flavour of Warrior's operations mean that somebody's gonna get a hard sell to use a Bauer, Easton, or Warrior stick when they come to Detroit.

I thought it was interesting that the Wings had most of their kids using leftover Reebok gear from training camp and the Griffins' locker room during last summer's prospect camp, but reps from Bauer, Easton, and Warrior were there multiple times to foster relationships with the kids.

Edit: Something tells me that JR probably knows way more than I do about a locker room where everybody in the "A" market has a stick deal.

Strong relationships with the Warrior/Inno pro rep as well as the Bauer rep, both guys are local to the area.

League gives each team a certain amount of Reebok product, that's why the prospects are in it.

I would assume that the fact that the TPS rep and Itech goal rep went to Brian's explains why Osgood and Conklin are using Brian's gear?

Former TPS rep is now the Business Manager at Brian's

Torspo and Salming are both European based companies, and im sure that they are not that different from each other. i dont think holmstrom needed that much twisting.

Torspo is European? I thought they were a Russian-based company...

Trees make really nice sticks too. Don't forget their cousins twigs and branches or their accessories leaves and berries.

Most of the Russian population is in the European portion of the company.

Sorry to bring this topic back up but noticed that warrior is all over the blues now. Perron, Tkachuk, Winchester, Mclement, Janssen, Jackman, Crombeen, Woywitka, Steen, and Weaver. They must be doing something right. Maybe Perron convinced some of the guys to try it out.

we all know why Perron uses them...

Actually he has told me that it was about feel for him - he was going through the motions stick-wise during the summer with Reebok but just couldn't get used to them.

Really need to try a warrior at some point. Just can't help feeling like I'd betray Bauer and Easton...

I'd love to try a warrior blade, too bad I can't find one in my curve.
