Need Advice On One-Piece and Two-Piece Sticks

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

There is a sale at my LHS and was wondering if anyone could give me advice regarding 2 piece sticks....never used a shaft and blade combo before, but wouldnt mind trying.....can anyone highlight the differences between the 2 please?

also, if you guys had a choice, which stick would you buy out the following, i know its personal opinion, but if any one has feedback on these, it would be great

Mission V-Hex (hossa) 129.99

Warrior Johnson (kovalev) 119.99

Easton S11 (iginla) 149.99

Warrior Shogun (smyth)149.99

S11 is a decent OPS I feel. And if you search around even on eBay you are likely to find one for less than the price you mentioned. I have an S11 and a Stealth CNT. Both are good for me.

I bought the AK27 shaft and blade combo last week. My only previous experience with one piece composite's was with lower models, but I CAN say that the two piece works AMAZINGLY well. Haven't noticed any weight or balance issues, plus when the blade breaks it's a cheap replacement.

I prefer the 2 piece stick method. I have two RBK 10K AIT shafts I use with Warrior Draper and Smyth AK27 blades. I also have the One95 shaft with a P92 One95 blade.. I really like that setup too and they do feel lighter to me than my Easton Stealth CNT Sakic. My TPS XN10 chrome's are really nice though.

many of the lhs in Montreal dont carry shafts anymore...i was thinking of doing the 2 piece ak27 kovalev and kronik combo....i always break my sticks at the blade anyways....

i broke ANOTHER stick tonight, a 5k snake grip....crappiest stick ive ever owned...so i will probably buy a 2 piece and a OPS

for some reason....i reeeally like the vhex's feel....its featherweight.

im now stuck between the johnson and vhex, what do u guys think about these 2? ive read the Johnson thread, but not too many reviews just all "scored with his black johnson in the 5 hole" talk lol

if you happen to want to get rid of the 10K tapered i am interested let me know.

The Vhex is a better stick than the Johnson. The only reason they are in the same price range is because Mission is no more (bought out by Bauer).

Neither Reebok shaft takes a tapered blade..So I'm not sure what you mean?

My preference is a tapered shaft, otherwise the OPS is going to be have better performance most of the time. Obviously there are exceptions and I'm sure someone will start citing them right away in an effort to prove me wrong.

I'm with chadd on preferring tapered shafts. I actually use a synergy SL shaft that used to be a OPS. I cut it after the blade went soft on me and pair it with a sherwood 950 tapered woody. Love the feel of the stick. Have two set up identically.

People say that converting OPS to 2-piece you lose performance, but I can't really notice a huge change. Plus the fact that replacing a blade costs 20 bucks :).

I think I'm done with the two piece sticks. Had the z bubble for years switched to the s11 and I find better control... Looking at the one 95 next.

i guess it wouldn't make much of a difference if it wasn't a true OPS

do you know what the A1T on the 10K shaft means? I have been using 10K A3T shafts for a while now and i still don't know what that means.

The "true OPS" argument is bullshit for a couple reasons. First, the only "true OPS" is busch. Everything else is still a shaft and blade, they're just attached differently. Second, I haven't tried a single one of the new style OPS that was better in performance than some of the tapered shaft/blade sticks. I'd love to find something that performs better than my XN10s, trying to source NOS sticks is a pain in the ass.

i am also curious to know what is the diff btw A1T, A2T, A3T. i have a A2T it tapered no cabon weaves pattern visible and look to be one of the early prototype graphics slightly different. i will try to post a pic later.

i guess thats true...but when using a 2 piece stick i feel like my flex/shot is a lil off...can't really explain it...but thats just me

Agreed.

I picked my ones up for $90 a piece, and very happy with them for the money. They feel a lot flexier than the 100 rating for me though, but these are my first OPS so that may be the difference.

If you're buying it at a store then they'll do it for you. If not you should use a heat gun to heat up the glue on the blade and the shaft a little, then it will slide right in.

The glue should already be on the blade, and if it's not then you can buy some form the store or get this stuff (or similar): http://www.hockeymonkey.com/ar-gluesticks.html

Kunal, check your PMs for more detailed blade changing instructions.

Nice of you to do that, I was going to give a detailed explanation too. Why not post the results here so others can learn too.
