I'm done

I would be straight up pissed if that happened to me.

someone above said it best, like a death in the family.

Good luck to you JR...hopefully you can get some good luck coming your way soon. If it wasn't for bad luck you'd have none from what I have read of late ;)

Keep you chin up! :)

Tough break JR. I know the feeling. My car was stolen a couple years back with my gear in the trunk. The cops called me at 3AM a few days later and said they recovered the car and I could come pick it up. First thing I said was "is the hockey gear still in the trunk?". The officer sounded dumbfounded and said "sir I have no idea, don't you want your car back?". I got downtown to find my car only mildly damaged but my gear was untouched.

Speaking of lost equipment. I just saw this on the Albany River Rats bush crashing

http://www.dailygazette.com/weblogs/janack...crash-update-3/

we don't know all the details on the condition of the equipment. (Albany equipment manager) Jason McGrath tells me it appears that we pretty much lost all of our gear. In saying 'lost,' we don't mean misplaced but that it was part of the wreckage and can't be salvaged. We'll have to scramble and see where we can get appropriate pads and skates and helmets and that kind of stuff and make that part of the final decision.

Injuries don't seem to be severe.

Man, that's horrible. Before I read the thread I was already thinking what I had lying around to donate that you didnt have backups for, haha. Don't think I have anything besides a helmet and shins... Since I know you have a stash of gloves and elbows.

Let me know if you need anything to borrow or whatnot.

Damn that's tragic. When I moved up here I had a last-minute box of stuff and threw some hats and some gloves in there. Box didn't show up for a couple weeks and when it came, it felt soft and mushy. Opened it up and stuff felt slimy and mold had gotten on everything. Custom HG1s I got from JR/Marz were easily the hardest to lose.

So the bag was zipped closed, water got in and then the mold started from baking in the sun?

Exactly right.

I had two pair of Z-Air gloves in there, my custom nylons are the ones that got hit, however I think if I just overhaul the entire glove there's an outside chance it may be salvaged. The new leather pair had none on it. Vapor XXXX Pros had some on the exterior and all over the palm. Guess it's time to make those Warrior customs.

Elbow pads (Jofa 5044) got hit as well. I have a backup pair of those but the straps are blown out. Looks like Peaches is going to be getting a ton of stuff sent to him in Portland or I'm going to be hurtin' for a while.

The authentic Capitals practice jersey CapsFan gave me got ruined as well. My grey MSH4 jersey got some on there too. The skates should be fine. Shinpads I have another pair of and but I think I can salvage the ones that got hit (Jofa 3175).

My girdle didn't get touched.

But yeah, a lot of this stuff is pretty frickin' old. Yes, I may be a gear whore and all that, but there's a lot of tried-and-true equipment that I absolutely would not part with. Probably not playing tonight, LOL

Nooooooooo!!!! Damn.

Sorry, you're stuff isn't going to be salvageable.

Once mold gets into foam, it's impossible to kill it all without also damaging the foam (bleach & foam padding do not get along). You may air it out, give it a wash or 2...but the mold & its toxins will still be under the surface and will quickly re-colonize the surface of whatever pad it is living on.

Re:jersey

You could try washing it several times with small quantities of bleach. Let the washer fill up all the way before you add it though, you don't want spots.

Went through my backup stash and found elbows and shins. So, I'll have new gloves tonight and really soaked skates. LOL

It still sucks, like one poster said, it's my mainstay stuff that is ruined. So I've got the elbow pads with the bad straps and all that...but oh well.

Lets be honest, you having to get rid of all of your equipment is a blessing in disguise. I have seen you skate....take this as a sign from above.

Yikes... that blows. I had my garage broken into once, and they took 2 equipment bags full of gear. One for ice and one for inline. 3 sets of golf clubs, and my wine rack filled with wine. Looking back, it was funny because my garage had never looked so clean. It was like they even sweeped the floor before they left! haha.

man that would suck, I've had some bikes stolen before that I had over 2000 invested in, every part picked out individually and it definitely sucks losing something you've put alot of time/effort/money into especially something you're comfortable with, only hockey items I've lost was a stick and even that was shitty. On the upside I guess it's better to miss a game for equipment reasons than for health reasons...so here's to your health. Let us know if you managed to slavage anything, or if not what you've moved on to...good luck

Hang in there, man. I'd be crushed if anything happened to any one of my mains. The back-ups just don't get it done. Although if I were to lose anything, playing in back-ups would still be better than not playing at all.

Good luck in finding some new gear. I'm sure you'll be able to procure something that suits your needs.

Bumping this with a mold-related question,

Apparently last week my gatorade spilled in my bag and now I've got some little black mold spots in it. It's a Shock Doctor bag (one of the older ones).

I spayed it with some Lysol and scrubbed the sides as well as took my stuff out to air out (that all looks fine, still sprayed with alcohol to be safe), but what should I do for a cleaning solution?

Should I just try washing the thing with dish soap or do I have to go to a gear cleaner? Maybe try some Oxy-Clean? I plan on cleaning all my pads in the tub tonight.
