CCM Vector V08 vs RBK 5K vs Graf?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

Alright, well I've skated in a few types of skates, and have had problems flexing the top end skates because I am only 150lbs.

Recently, I have tried the Bauer Supreme 70, the Graf Supra G35 and the CCM Pro Tacks.

The Bauer never fit my foot properly, the Graf fit it properly and was amazing, and the pro tacks fit as well. However, I had huge trouble flexing these boots, so I am going to try something a little less stiff.

I was thinking about CCM's Vector V08, RBK's 5K or any comparable Graf to the G35 in a much less stiff skate.

I have a narrowish heel with a wide forefoot and small arches.

Any suggestions??

I used the RBK 5K skates, and for me the top part is pretty stiff as well, even when I got them molded they didn't fit properly. Your best bet is to go try them on at a store.

I also have a wide forefoot with a smallish heal and low arch and weigh 155lbs, and I have the 5k. I don't know if it's the ideal skate for me but I've gotten it to work for me. When I bought them, they widened the toecap as wide as possible and punched out the forefoot. I admit that the heel is too big without inflating the pump. As long as the pump works, they are perfect despite my smallish heels but if it broke, I would honestly try to find something else.

I find the boot very stiff, too stiff if I lace it all the way to the top, and can't flex forward. My agility is reduced to close to zero. I tried lacing them real tight up to the lace lock, and looser above the lace lock to allow more forward lean but that made my ankle and heel too loose and unstable. Now I lace it tight all the way up to the second eyelet, and I don't lace the top eyelet. With the pump inflated they feel just perfect and flex forward at just the right place, and I get sufficient heel lock and no problem with blisters whatsoever. Leaving the top eyelet unlaced made all the difference so that might be one thing to consider when trying on skates.

I hope this helps a bit.

That helps a lot - a lot of people I know said that I need the stiffest skate on the market, but I'm light on my feet and can't really flex the high end skates at all.

Not doing up the top eyelet sounds good - I'll be trying on a few pairs of skates this weekend.

I still don't know how the 5K compares to the V08 though...... and are there any types of Grafs that fit similar to the G35/735? I looked at the sizing chart and could only see the 605 in there.

The Bauer One75 should fit your foot pretty well, it doesn't have the same fit as the rest of the Supreme line and fits my narrow heeled, low arch'd, wide-ish fore foot perfectly :D It is a bit stiff up top (not as stiff as the One95 though) so not sure if you'll like that, you could always try with the top eyelet unlaced... it's worth a shot to try it on.

I disagree with the above.

The supreme fits me like crap and I own G35s in wide and Pro Tacks and 992s.

The supremes I tried were to narrow in the arch area and way to narrow in the forefoot. I thought the arch was definetly not designed for flat arches as well.

As to not being able to flex the Pro Tacks you may want to try a lower model of super tacks. I am only 5'7" and 175 and am flexing them fine so not to sure about the flexing issue. I found the G35s noticeably less stiff then the Pro Tacks or my Super tack 992s. I have not bothered with RBKs cause the pumps just never felt right. \

As to similar skates to the G35 The Supra 735 in leather. The 703 and G3 may also fit you, but the boot is more of a ladys cut in that it has less volume from what I read. Possibly 705 but unlikely.

The supreme fits me like crap...

Which Supremes? The One75 do not fit the same as the rest of the Supreme line so being a little more specific would help... but in any case it's a great example why trying on as many skates as possible is always a good idea.

i went from supreme 70's to v08's. i needed more volume, and a bit wider skate. the v08 felt great and better instantly than the 70's. i also tried 9k's and for my feet they felt the best except for a small area on my ankle that would have it impossilble to skate without pain. I dont have access to graf's so cant say about that, but the v08's did seem wider/more volume than the one75's

I'm confused. I love my One55s in a 9.5D and my Graf 502s in a 9W..but I tried on the One75 in a size 9. Damn..they fit nicely..what gives?

The One75 was the One90 last year, I don't know why it's made and fits differently than all the other Supremes but it does. But yea it pays to try them all on, I thought I'd like the Vapors but they were too wide and loose on my foot, the One75 unexpectedly fit like a glove.

I do not believe that the One75 is the One95 from last year. Maybe very similar setup, but different fit. They're not identical.

The One75 was the One90 last year but they fixed some issues and renamed it the One75 to go under the new One95 and fit in numerically. This has been the first year of the One95 and it is a completely different skate than last years One90/this years One75.

Hmmmmm I know I tried on the one55 and I thought I tried on the one75 also. Pretty sure it was one75 as the one95 gives me sticker shock. Maybe it was one95 then. it was a while ago. I just remember slidding them on and immediately pulling them off because of the pain on the forefoot area. My foot really widens out in the forefoot and its high volume. Gets even wider in the toes.

Are You saying the one75 does not have a pronounced arch like all other supremes I have tried on?

Going to my sons skate class tonight will see if they have any in the proshop.

i have nowhere near the same feet as you mine are wide and flat footed

but like u i like a my foot to flex the tongue and not too stiff a boot

when at the store the salesman suggested the 08 cuzit was much softer wider (after bake) and gave me more flex at the tongue...

he suggested highly not to take the rbk 5 k because it is apparently quite stiff at the tonge and was hard to bend forward...i love my skate loose ish where the ankle bends/tongue...tried em both on and it was a no brainer for me vector 08 was my choice.

When I went shopping for skates about 8 months ago I tried on the V08s and 5ks. 5ks ended up fitting almost perfectly pre-bake so I picked those. However, 8 months later I'm looking for a stiffer skate, as I've started trusting my edges more and putting a lot more force into my strides and turns. I lace to the top eyelet pretty tightly and totally ignore the pump feature.

The 5ks are continuing to serve me very well and are holding up great, except for some tearing on the tongue at the 2nd from top eyelet.

My feet are pretty normal/avg except for my long sausage toes (eww).

i have used both the 2008 V08's (current skates) and last years 5k's

I was also torn between the new 5k's or V08's....im glad i chose the V08's..

i think my foot shape is exactly like yours (thread starter)

i cant fit in bauers, no matter how hard i try and love the look.....

I think the 5k is good skate but its quite heavy...its a bit stiffer than the V08's.....and also the heel is wider..

The V08's are quite simply the best skates i have ever skated in. They are very close to the U+ and they are featherlight. The have a bit of a narrower heel than the 5k's and have more volume than most grafs i tried on.

The rocket runner blade is amazing. i know lots of guys on here dont like it, but i personnally have skated on EPro/prolite holders my whole life and find the rocketrunner the best blade i have ever used....this skate is so light and so well priced for a high end skate.

Not to mention that after baking, i literally broke them in 3-4 shifts. That was awesome, i was shocked. Im also a very rough player and skate quite hard, the only downer about these skates is that they wont last 3-4 years if you play rough.....im gonna need a new pair mid next season for sure, so that wll make it a year and a half for me....but thats just the way i play. for the average person im sure these skates will go a while

hope this helps and good luck

I'm quite well aware of my typo. I meant to say the One90, but the One90 and the One75 are NOT the same boot

I'll add that the RBK 5K is a pretty solid mid-range boot. Some people may not like the stiffness of the boot, but it works for a lot of people. It seems people are getting more for their $$ when it comes to mid-range boots than in the past..Especially with skates like the NBH One55 or the Rbk 5K or even the CCM V08 which is a little more expensive, but a good skate.

Same here - they are the most comfy skates ever. Being able to flex the skate has really helped my skating out huge. I actually like the rocket runners too.

I tried the 5k and the heel was a little wide. I was worried about pump durability, and I had to pump the skate like 6 times to make the skate good around the heel, which worried me a bit. The 5k is a great skate no doubt - and by trying mid range skates on, I realized that even for future purchases I should be looking at mid range skates as the let me skate to my fullest ability.

Oh - on a side note, I took two shots off the feet tonight and the skates held up amazing. One was off the toe and one was off the side of my foot. No damage to the boot and my feet didn't hurt too bad after the shot.
