Hockey Tape Wax

Recommended Posts

Didnt really know where this conversation fit in but I had a question about tape wax. None of the pro shops around here sell it or not its not in stock and I would buy it online but I'm impatient and this stuff only costs 6 dollars or so but, so will the shipping and handeling. Can I use something else that will have the same effects like a non sented candle?

Call a skateboard shop...they'll have it.

When I lived in San Diego, all the hockey pro shops had this stuff as well as surf/skate stores along the coast. Never used it, or any wax, but it seemed to be quite popular.

Dude, I used, for the longest time, the wax you get at the supermarket that Grandma uses with the masonjars she used to jar her preserves, jams, and jellies.

It comes in blocks that are like 6 inches wide x 3 inches tall x 3/4 inch thick. About 5 blocks per box IIRC. The box is blue.

That stuff was great, I would tape my stick, rub that stuff on, melt it in with a heatgun or hair dryer and the tape job would look a lot cleaner, last longer and wouldn't let any water in.

HA, i used to do the exact same thing... melt the wax right into the tape. would work very well. Canning Wax from the Grocery Store...

The grape scent isn't as bad as some of the others, IMO. Been using Mr Zog's for years... I like the little bit of tackiness that it adds. Can get it for about 3 bucks (if you order 4) on ebay. As mentioned earlier, the parrafin is a good, cheap option if you don't like the tackiness of the sex wax... lasts forever, too.

My shop only seems to carry that blade butter crap, works for like one use on the ice and the snow piles up by the end of an hour. Sex wax is something I just started using and it seems to last a long time on a per application base but I used this for years and cant seem to find it anywhere around me, I miss it :P

AhhhThat stuff is at every shop in the north metro in minneapolis. Try Daves, Lettermans, Top Shelf, Hockey Zone, SportsAuthority, Dicks, Everywhere, i do not like it as well as Sex wax. the container sucks because you have to mangle the wax to get it out of it.

Easy fix for that is to crack the container open, evenly distribute the wax your first time using it (so it is still in a circular form) then throw it in an old Kodiak tin.

i think what he means is its a bitch to get out of the container when you want to use it for the first time. i bought this stuff once and loved it and recently switched to sex wax. but the pro guard is a bitch getting out at first. even the A&R i bought was a bitch getting out.

well I went to fishbone today, a skate and surf shop but no sex wax, or surf boards at that. What I did pick up was some snowboard wax, it looks the same and feels the same so I guess I'll give that a go

Lettermen Sports has it, but the blue cardboard backing isn't on it anymore.

It's pretty sad that nobody has mentioned the best wax ever.

SnapWax.

I have a container on my desk, still has the groove in the middle to slide the bottom of the blade in and still has the subscription card to that crappy magazine that nobody ever bought, but made it oh-so-easy to remove the wax from the container. And still smells good as hell. I wonder if they still make Snap - I haven't seen it for years.

I have Black SnapWax in my other bag, back when I used to use black tape.

I'm not sure if your being sarcastic but of course they still make snap wax! We always carry it in our shop.

As for the smell, is there actually a scent? I presumed it always had that "odorless" smell to it. Like a boring dull smell.

I got both types of waxes as well, only thing different now is white wax is carried in a red container. But either or they both do the same job. BECAUSE it doesnt matter if your black or white. Sorry had to add in the MJ.
