LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 Well, as you guys can probably tell just by looking at the title, I have been having some issues getting to sleep lately. Usually I like to be asleep by about 12:45 a.m., but the past week or so I have been lucky to zonk out until about 2-2:30. As I have to wake up at about 6:15 for school, this poses a bit of a problem. I can't function on four hours of sleep. I've tried everything; TV on, TV off, lights on, lights off, fan on, fan off, tried going back to sleeping with my boxers on. Nothing. I've even started reading 30 Days to a More Powerful Vocabulary, hoping it would bore the shit out of me. No dice.I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me here. Anything you fellas can think of would be appreciated (well, almost anything; I would prefer not to be taking shots of NyQuil everynight).
Neo5370 132 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 I feel your pain. I am practically an insomniac. Is your sleep schedule messed up from the summer? You might just need time to get used to having to get up for school again. Also, are you not tired when you try to sleep? Or are you tired and still unable to fall asleep? I fall into this category a lot of the time. And it's usually cuz I can't stop thinking about random crap or if I have something on my mind.Best advice is to talk to your doctor. He'll ask more of the right questions than anyone here can (unless we have doctors in the house), and more than likely be able to give you better tips. kosydar 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 Take some melatonin. You can get it at most earthy places that sell vitamins and such. It sure as hell knocks me out. Besides that, Nyqil works good, too.

LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 actually, what i do to fall asleep is count the bars in the numbers on those digital alarm clocks. puts me out like a lightMaybe that would work. I'll give that a shot tonight (after I finish the three essays I have to write :( . It's almost a good thing I didn't have practice tonight). If not I'll probably drug myself up.mack - Maybe I'll master the art of working without sleep as you have once I go to college. But, right now I am a junior in high school, so sleep is something that I really kinda need.

Fire0nIce228 1 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 I've heard propping your feet up alittle bit is a way to help you sleep, but that could be a load of BS... I could be mistaking that for a cure to something else. I too am having trouble falling asleep, but I know its because I cant stop thinking about stuff at night. All evening I'll lay around tired and zoned out and when I lay down to sleep my brain seems to kick in and want to solve lifes problems instead of sleeping. D'oh :(

Fedorov91 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 I have the same problem but then I discovered this Tylenol Simply Sleep stuff.http://tylenol.com/products/adult/detail.j...t/sleepless.incI suggest you try it. It's only like $6 for a pack of 48 and if you go to places like Wal-Mart they have the generic stuff for even cheaper. I usually take one around 10:00 and within a hour I start to feel drowsy. Just dont take it too late at night (1:00-2:00) because it won't wear off in time and you'll still be tired as f**k in the morning! Other Things I noticed that keep me up:Taking a shower before you go to sleep (wakes you up I guess)Working out before you go to sleepBeing stressed out, having lots of things on your mindand like JR said, if you have to take care of business b4 you go to bed then you gotta do what you gotta do. But it'd be even better if you could call over a female friend for a quick booty call then kick her out once you're all tired :D

blackhawks4ever 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Try a big warm glass of milk 30 minutes before bed. If that doesn't work take 50mg of Benadryl(but be prepared to wake up with a dry mouth). If the problem presists as your doctor for some Sonata. Sonata is a sleep aid like Ambien but is faster in onset(gets you to sleep faster) and is shorter acting (therfore doen't interfere with your sleep cycles once you are asleep.....so you wake up feeling rested). Good luck!!!
Hockeyman9621 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Something about sleeping problems was in my local paper awhile back. Try going for a jog in the morning or during the day. Do something to wear off some energy.
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Thanks fellas. I'll probably just start with the home remedies and, if I am still having a problem, I'll work my way up to OTC medication and maybe even decide to go see a doctor, even though I HATE going to the doc. Thanks again guys, you've been a big help.
TheDevil_27 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Something about sleeping problems was in my local paper awhile back. Try going for a jog in the morning or during the day. Do something to wear off some energy. Yea we were talking about this at school the other day, and sum expert says that physical activity during the day is really helpful but not right before you go to bed. Also they said to try and get into a routine before going to bed so that your body knows it is geting close to sleep time, something like listening to music works.
