DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 A buddy of mine is a professor at University of Western Ontario in London. This week via Facebook as part of my Canadian citizenship requirement test(I did a great Don Cherry for him and now he is making me take this test), he sent me the video of Tragically Hip-The Darkest Hour featuring Trailer Park Boys and a certain Chicken Delivery man. Since I watched the song and heard the video, I have been checking out Tragically Hip on Youtube. During last night's game I couldn't get Darkest Hour, Gift Shop, and Poets songs out of my head the whole game. I was so distracted by the music in my head!! Anybody ever have this problem? troy 12 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 Almost every single game I've played in recent memory I'll have about a four to five word string of lyrics pop into my head and usually stay there the entire game.
CaptainFantastik 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 Tuesday night Pickup is usually played to the sounds of Mandatory Metallica on the house stereo at the local rink. Suits me just fine. The last song I had stuck in my head that made me absolutely crazy for about 2 weeks was the "$5 footlong song" from the Subway commercials. Now THAT made me want to stick a gun in my mouth. Steve_v3 289 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 The worst was a couple a years ago when my daughter started watching all the toddler shows. I would go to my skate with the songs from Dora, Blues Clues, or whatever she happend to watch that day. On the bench one night someone caught humming the Backyardigans. Ahhhhh...... Clark12 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 I used to play with a guy who used to skate around singing Funkytown. We played against an American team once and he starting signing 'Living In America'
lampliter87 8 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 I think it depends for me on a couple different factors ie, what song it is, how much you like said song, and the mood of the tune in question (a "pump-up" tune or something obnoxious?). I've played one of the best games of my life with "Rock You Like A Hurricane" in my head the entire game. That being said there are definitely some nights where that annoying tune runnin' round and round can being distracting as hell.

Warriorsdman 1 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 My D partner and I always had a song stuck in our heads last season, we thought it helped us focus but who knows. It was always like rise against or something like that
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 All the time in pickup. It sucks for the guys on the bench because I whistle it while I'm waiting to go back out. :D "Are you whistling Everlong?"" :) Yes, I am."

Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. I absolutely hate it when it's a song I don't like. I wish I could hear Rock Lobster in my head the whole game, I think that'd keep the intensity level up. RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 Happens to me all the time. Sometimes it's the gayest, stupidest song too...thankfully I'm only singing to myself, not out loud.I had Jammin' by Bob Marley in my head the other day (I heard it on the radio on the way down to the rink)...and told one of the other guys...he's like "You bugger, now I'm gonna have it stuck too"Every time I skated by him I started singing it *L*
DCott 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 I do it intentionally. When I play goal, I'll switch up whatever song I'm thinking of to change my mood/attitude. I think it helps.
Ahriman 1 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 I always had a song stuck in my head until after freshman year of high school. It really really bothered me because I would literally be singing (muttering) to myself while out on a shift. I considered it a problem though it mysteriously went away after that season and haven't had it since. Hell, haven't thought about it til I saw this thread. I guess I just started feeling comfortable on the ice then.

jmiami 4 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 What a funny thread to come across. I thought I was the only one who got songs stuck in my head while playing. And it is usually the most random songs. Last week for instance during a game, out of nowhere, the Beyonce tune "All The Single Ladies" pops into my head. Suffice to say that it stayed in my head on repetitive loop till end of game. I'm not particularly a Beyonce fan, and I had only heard this tune once before in a store. But I just couldn't shake it. Hell, I coulda done worse. At least it's a bouncy tune. "Oh oh oh! Oh oh oh oh! Oh oh oh oh oh!...All the single ladies!"
yrhmblnr8r 69 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 A couple of years ago in a playoff game I had Macy Gray - I Try stuck in my head thanks to my girlfriend. There's nothing you can do but pray that the rink plays something decent during a break that'll knock that junk out of your head.
