New Reebok Stick Line

However, the 8k shaft is a generation better than the 7k.

Ollie - with all due respect, what does this even mean?

I hear this and think marketing cliche. What is it about the 8k that makes it a 'generation better' than the 7k?

The 8k shaft is bladder molded while the 7k was compression molded. The difference is a more consistent and better feeling shaft. The 8k shaft is also made from high modulus carbon while the 7k was not. As a result, the 8k is lighter than the 7k.

Now if you can just get one in TBLfan's hands, that will be the true test. I think he will prefer the 10K as he is a fan of the Vector 10's, but he would be an ideal tester!

Why?

I'm sure Reebok/CCM can do the same testing. All they need to do is attach weights to a tripod. OHHHH SNAP

Ok, that's quality right there. I tip my hat to you good sir.

P.S. Sharpen my skates!

P.P.S. Hmm, I think I know who hockey1933 is by the Vector 10 comment. I think you may have skipped out on us before I gave my rave review of the U+ OPS. :)

Quick question(s) - I have a 5K OPS, Modano curve, which I like very much. Can you tell me what lie it is?

Also, in your opinion, which model in your line represents the most value/durability for the feature set?

The 2008 5k Modano is a lie 6.

Concerning value/durability, the new 6k is a very good bet. Here's a quick scoop you won't read in the catalogue. The Reebok 6k uses the same manufacturing process as the original 7k SicKick with a different mix of materials. You'll get performance, value and durability all in one.

Thanks Ollie - appreciate the info. I'll start looking for the new 6k's to appear in my area. I hope the Hamrlik curve (replaces the modano as per one of your earlier posts) is a popular stocked option.

I have a Crosby, (5 lie) that is significantly higher than my 5 lie Heatley. since I prefer the heatley, what would reebok have to offer in a lower lie? I like the RBK's i've owned in the past, and really want to get a 10k,

P.S. Sharpen my skates!

Note to TBLFan - never, ever piss off your sharpener.

We can do evil things to your skates.

:( I've got 4 sets to be done, two for me and two for Will.

I'll get you that buffer and some turtle wax for your head. :)

Trying to not take this way off topic... I think we all can appreciate the effort here to listen, respond to our questions and comments. Thanks. I personally think that the Reebok sticks are a big step in the right direction after what I consider, to be honest, some horrible RBK sticks in the past few years.

Is CCM/RBK ever going to make a sakic clone at retail? I've always wanted to try your sticks, but not having my curve is major hindrance.

Ollie, just a suggestion, but I've always wondered why CCM sticks never really came out with a Sakic clone as it's arguably one of the most popular curves out there. I know the current Lecavalier is supposed to be similar but to me it's not even close. Hockey players are creatures of habit and I think that if you want to start stealing market share from Easton, Bauer, and Warrior, why not remove one of the easiest barriers to switching? I've tested out a buddy's U+ and love the feel and shot, but won't commit the $220 as there's no curve equivalent. At the end of the day, I'll probably go back to a P92 or a Sakic. Just one less thing to adjust to if you do end up getting a new twig...

Ollie works on the Reebok side - it's that whole separate but equal thing.

Wonder if they have Reebok Only and CCM Only bathroom and watercoolers. Ow, that was bad.

From what I understand, "bladder molding" means wrapping the carbon+fibreglass+epoxy+etc around a plastic bag to form the stick, whereas "compression molding" means wrapping the materials around a solid rod to form the stick.

If my definitions are correct, how do you reason that bladder molding is more consistent than compression molding?

Also, can you please explain why high-modulus carbon makes a stick lighter? Again from what I understand, a material's "modulus" refers to its ability to take stress.

Thanks for participating on MSH through this thread!

My thoughts... although I am sure TBLfan and Ollie will know better...

You are correct in the molding process, but a bladder that fills the components to shape the stick will create a more consistent distribution of materials. When you use compression molding, sometimes corners are thicker; sides of the shaft are not as consistent, etc. This often occurs because the rod can become old and warn, therefore looses it's shape. There is nothing wrong with compression molding, as long as the molds are monitored and replaced frequently. However, bladders offer a consistent "mold", and can be a better result for some models/materials.

How did I do Ollie?

Got one stick today. A Jon Filewich 10K with grip coating and 100 flex. It appears the blade is composite, at least looking at the edge of it where it's shaped. It doesn't look to be wood unless I'm mistaken. I wanted a pretty open face since many shots are just wristers trying to go high into the top corners of the net in the stuff I play at. The other 2 sticks have a less open face and one is a Ryan Shannon. They should both be here in a day or two.

I recommend the P38 Datsyuk curve. It's a lie 6 and reasonably close to the Heatley pattern.
