SnipinCheese87 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 ok so ive been skating bare foot for a few years now because i am more comfortable that way when i skate, when i wore socks they would get heavy and gross and i just didnt like it. however i am always getting the same rashes and blisters but i feel like i got them when i skated with socks also. so my question is this. is there a very lightweight sock you guys use that doesn't feel to heavy while your skating, something like the under armour shirt material? is there a way i can modify my boot to prevent these (i always get blisters on the upper outside part of my heel, and on my big toe) and finally do those of you who wear socks still get blisters? sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 I wear socks and never get blisters. I just bought some kind of skate socks off hockeymonkey (can't remember what they are, no logo on 'em) and haven't had any issues. I used to wear dress socks b/c they're thin and light and those never gave me blisters either. Maybe it's a skate fit issue???

shotty 7 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 i've been down this road numerous times... i've spent lots of time and money trying to find the *right* sock. gone through numerous brands of running, ski touring, compression, cycling, hockey, etc socks and i've found that the best so far are "nike elite" running socks. they're assymetrical (or anatomic, whichever you prefer), dry super quick, have a more durable material in high impact/wear, lots of stretch areas and NO stitching. number21 3 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 I usually wear oxy socks, but those are thicker like tube socks.I used to wear hunting liner socks, they are super thin.
shooter27 117 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 I used to wear what were called sanitary socks, they were extremely thin, almost like women's panty hose. I switched to skating barefoot about 15 years ago and will never go back to socks.

schrempsky 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 i agree with lampliter sounds like a skate issue, where the heel is too wide for you
SnipinCheese87 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 thanks for all the suggestions guys. the toe could very well be cause by the skates, but i only get the heel blister on my left foot. however tonight i tried tucking my under armour pants into my skate, it covers half my skate and my heel wasnt sore like it usually is :) . but i think i will try some of the socks you guys mentioned and see if i can stand them or not. tonguesOUT4life 17 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 get some tuff-skin and some patches of gel or a thick material to cover your hot spots. tuff skin is a spray that keeps materials on your skin regardless of how much you sweat or rub agianst it. works like a charm. I buy those kinoki foot pads that you see on the infomercial. They come with the footpads and then these super sticky thin cloth stickers to hold the footpads to your foot. I chunk the footpads and use the sticky cloth on the front of my ankle where my non-felt s15 tongues rub the hell outa me. Works like a champ, but i might try that tuff skin stuff. GoWings85 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 try liner socks made for runners or hikersWon't get thinner than Wigwam Ultimax.+1 I worked at a snowboard rental sop over the winter in Colorado and we sold these at snowboard/ski socks. Needless to say I stockpiled a bunch of them for hockey ;) Only problem I have is they don't stay up...they remind me of white dress socks.
t1tan 19 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 I've tried skate socks from a few companies, the Eastons and NikeBauer Vapos but they always feel "slippery" inside the skate and I just don't like wearing long socks so I switched to a nike performance sock that was thin but has the same feel of the nike socks I wear every day with shoes. These are what I'm wearing now, comfortable, seems to grip inside the skate well, moisture wicking and come right to the top of the boot so not too low either. http://store.nike.com/index.jsp?country=US...id-1/pid-207385
JohnnyCanuck 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 I've been in your boat and searched high and low.The best thing at the end of the day, that I still use, is Soccer "Technical" Socks, not just the normal $8.00 a pair at your local soccer shop, but the real deal pro quality calibre Umbro and Nike Technical Socks. They are super thin, they're long up your leg so I found I had less skin irritation from Shin pads and socks etc... and they stay dry throughout the game.I have 4 or 5 pairs in my bag at all times. saveourpens 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 imo, a even thin sock would take away the feel for the skate you gain by going barefoot.
