Hey did anyone catch the 3rd period ? Pierre McGuire took a players stick and starting showing the curve and flipped it upside down and starting talking about the bottom of the blade. I was watching the segment but an important telephone call came through and missed most of it. I was wondering what was he was discussing about and whose's stick it was.

Thanks.

i'm pretty sure it was crosby's...he was talking about how small his curves are and how crosby says he prefers it coz he can pass/stickhandle better with it but his shots have suffered with that curve...well more like a non-curve lol

but i wasn't paying attention on it for awhile but all i remember was them showing crosby's blade

I really hope Pierre Maguire gets that job in Minnesota, if only so I don't have to listen to that guys commentary anymore.

He grates on my nerves.

I thought it was Crosby they were talking about but when they first showed the blade curve, it had an open face which is not what Crosby uses. But then again, I am pretty sure Crosby must have different variations.

He was talking like he was a goalie coach at one point. I thought he once said Bill Guerin has a $500 bounty if someone can get him with a puck or something. I hope he takes it upon himself haha. Minnesota can do us all a favour and hire him.

Peter was definitely talking about the lack of a curve on Crosby's stick and how it gave Sid better stick handling control and improved his backhand shots. He was also pointing out his wrist and snap shots are not as good now because the lack of the curve and how Crosby was willing to sacrifice that aspect of his shot to get better stickhandling control. Very interesting segment. I personally like McGuire because I find some of the topics he brings up gives you a much better perspective of the game and the behind the scenes things you don't know about or just don't see. I find him very knowledgable and informative.

I'm really hoping he comes to Minnesota as our GM, both for what he can bring to the Wild and to get him off TV :)

He annoys me to no end with his "hey I don't really have anything to say but i'm just going to yell to sound informative" commentary and his constant hard on for crosby.

No, just showed the curve from a different angle. It was funny, I paid no attention to it the first time i watched it but my dad made me rewind it cause he didn't hear what he said. Pretty neat stuff.

I can only imagine how little credibility he would have with NHL players; probably only slightly more than Elliot Friedman, who is at least respectably large though thick as a whale omelet.

As annoying as he is, I am guessing he would get respect with the players. I think he used to be an assistant coach with the Nordiques.

Mike Russo reports he's extremely knowledgeable, personable, and is very highly regarded. I'm taking his word for it as the Wild ownership seems to think highly enough of him to be one of maybe three finalists for the GM position.

He's just terribly annoying to listen to.

he has a cup ring as an assistant with pittsburgh as well

He was a scout, not an assistant coach.

He is the first guy to talk about visors for every player, and to ban fighting in the name of "selling" the game to the U.S. There are plenty of other reasons why the NHL doesn't do well in some US markets, not the least of which is basketball, baseball, and football. The NHL keeps this pipe dream alive by continuing to put franchises places where people don't even want them.

Pierre Maguire is our Barry Melrose.
