Well it depends on how old you are and what flex you like

im 15 and i like around a 80 flex... but wouldnt the stick be too small because im also around 6'1"

If you're 6'1" I'd think an intermediate would be too short. What throws me off (I'm 5'10", 170lbs) isn't the length, but how skinny the shafts are. Unless you have small hands it's a bit awkward.

How many times has this topic come up already?

It's PP. If you are having trouble loading up a SR stick, andcan get used to the "lag" and smaller shaft of the intermediate, give it a try. It can't hurt (except for your wallet).

I sure wouldn't if I were 6'1". They're usually a bit small for my hands, which are already small with 13" gloves. The flex is about right, but I'm 5'8" and cut them below my chin. But give it a shot if you have the cash.

I would recommend you at least try it. I am 6' tall but skinny at about 140-145 lbs naked. I play with an intermediate stick cut to 52.5" shaft length with tapered blades (1.5" shorter than standard senior). Most intermediates are 51-53". You can simply add an extension / cut the stick to your preferred length.

Give it a shot. I'm 6'1 and the stick I'm using right now is about 58"-58.5". It's not too short for me, and most intermediate sticks are around 57" uncut. I'm already using a 70 flex, so the only difference between the stick I use now and most intermediates is the inch or so in length. I like the really flexy sticks, because they're easier to load up. I feel I can get a harder shot out of them. Nobody can tell you what length is too short or too long, or what flex is perfect for you. You just have to try stuff out. As far as the shaft shape goes, I've played around with some intermediates before and actually liked the smaller shape. But that's me, you might pick one up and hate it.

Older topic, but just what i was wondering....

My wife is very petite, only about 5' tall, and I want to take advantage of a couple good sales on OPS. She is just starting to play on a regular basis, and her game is coming along pretty good too. My question is this - I would imagine it is best for her to use an intermediate stick as opposed to a senior..... Is there much difference in the size of the shaft?

Not a huge difference, but noticeable. I would imagine the intermediate would fit her hands better. Plus, cutting a senior stick down to where it's comfortable for her will flex about as much as a piece of rebar.

I knew a guy that was close to 6 feet who used a 65 flex with a plug in it. I always figured a huge flex would result in the stick never releasing the shot properly, but this definitely performed above my expections. Definitely did feel small in my hands though

if anything, an intermediate will fit better in her hands. mine uses an int. 65

Well using the intermediate sticks doesn't seem to hurt phil kessel too badly.....

Anytime I pick one up though they just feel too small in my hands. Im only 5'9" but have pretty long fingers which i think makes the shaft dimension just too small for me. Like the flex and length though.

You could even try to get her to use a junior shaft or possibly a youth stick with a plug if she really has small hands. There's a girl on my team who uses a Easton S5 Iginla 50flex stick who's about the size of your wife but can't load the stick very well. The youth sticks are about 3 inches shorter than the juniors and 10-15flex less depending on brand.

Seems as if they'd be either too small in diameter or too weak, but to each his own. I'd personally stay with whippier senior shafts at that size.

I was thinking the same thing regarding the juniors. I sold a ton of junior sticks to adult women, once they got over the stigma. Once they tried one, it was an easy sell after that. The sticks were cheaper, fit their hand better and improved their shot significantly. Forbs would be able to provide better info on this but I was under the impression than a lot of the Olympic team was using intermediate range flexes. So juniors would not be unexpected for women that aren't world class athletes.

Thanks for the input all. I have an int. on order, and once it arrives, I'll post on what she thinks. It's actually a surprise gift I guess you could say. :)
