What gear do you see most of in beer league?

Recommended Posts

For the most part, I don't even notice the other guys' gear...most people seem to use the cheapest OPS and gloves they can find. Although one guy I played with had some pro stock S17's and gloves, so I asked and his brother or somebody is an equipment manager for the Avs...lucky SOB gets all his stuff for free!

We have a good cross section of all the major brands. Nike/Bauer, Easton, CCM/RBK and Mission. Still see some older Cooper shins and helmets. Starting to see more Graf skates as the guys get older and more financially stable. Not too much Eagle or Warrior stuff. One guy even has a pair of old Koho Titanium skates that just refuse to die.

I think the stick I see the most is the Vapor XII, but I might just be thinking that because 3 or 4 guys on my team uses those. Our former captain used to skate in cooperalls.

I agree that Graf seems to be the most common skate amongst the 30+ crowd..

I forgot all about the CCM Supra pants.. I do see a lot of those if they're not wearing sweatpants

There were a fair number of XXXX sticks out there too..Probably due to the fact that the local HG is selling them off for $99..

I rarely see Easton skates unless they're being worn by 15-20 yr olds

I played with a guy who had a couple original Easton Stealth sticks.

Hmm I've also seen a lot of old guys with rusty cages or those bubble sized half cage half visor lol.

Any in the cateye cage?

Most guys I see don't wear those lol mostly visors, no visors, half cages with visor, or rusty old cage lol, After going for some stick and puck I watched some old people have their little game and from what I can see most guys wear grafs, vapors, or bauer supremes. Sticks were mostly easton or shaft and wooden blade combo and gloves well it wasn't too flashy just easton, bauer, and ccm around here in scarborough toronto :P at canlan ice sports ;)

i see lots of vapor skates. the shinny i went to the other week i'd say more then 65-70% were vapor xxv or xxxx skates. nbh and ccm helmets. gloves are everything. sticks is mostly low end easton or higher end nbh or rbk. i never see any warrior sticks except on my summer team were like half of us use them

The guys I play drop-in range in ages from mid 30's to mid 70's. Not a lot of new gear in this crowd. Usually, the only time anybody has any new gear, besides me, is when somebody brings their son or grandson to play.

Apart from whatever's been on clearance in the last yaar, I see a fair bit of Eagle here in Toronto.

The age divide on Bauer vs CCM helmets is exactly what I've seen.

The one thing I have noticed is that there are very few wood-blade two-pieces around these days: I'd say about 90% one-piece, 9% two-piece composite and 1% other.

Speaking of Canlan, those cheap bastards at Vic Park have actually stopped freezing the ice. The left rink was SLUSH the last time I was there, and the right rink had patches of bloody sand in the crease. I caught my heel sliding back on a breakaway, flipped back and went head-first into the post. They are the worst-maintained rinks the GTA, and that's saying something.

I see a lot of the older guys wearing sweatpants over their shin pads, instead of socks. I am suprised, however, that a majority of the older guys in my league have Supreme 95 sticks, skates, and other top of the line equipment.

My league has a wide variety. About half the players are new to the sport within the past few years, the rest have been playing for years. So we have a mix of newer equipment, and some older than dirt stuff. Very few wood sticks. Even fewer shaft/blade combos. Mostly mid line OPS. Skates are mostly newer skates, lots of bauer vapor stuff, though a few RBK skates. Helmets are mostly bauer and RBK, though some of the older guys are in CCM. There are a few Cooper and Jofa helmets out there, usually with some horribly rusted white cage. Probably 75% use cages, with the remainig 25% split between nothing and half visors.

Really, its kinda what you'd expect out of a league of a mix of new and old players.

Like somebody else said, I'm one of those (40 to be exact) guys. I play with a group of similar age guy, at least half of which played post midgets (juniors, college, or pro).

When it comes down to it, it seems like most of us don't mind spending a little money on a comfortable helmet, good skates (but we tend to keep them for 5+ years), and decent sticks, though most sticks in my patch are freebies. They tend not to spend money on shin pads, elbows, tape (lots of laces on shins), pants, shoulders, jerseys, etc.

1/2 play with visors, 1/2 with a naked helmet. (2 have full cages)

1/3 wear breezers. The other 2/3 where cotton sweats with no girdle.

Most of us have higher end skates. Alot of XXX and XXXX some One90/95's.

Most have pretty decent sticks but most of us got them for free from local pros, nearby semi pro teams, college teams, junior teams.

Alot of Bauer 4000 helmets, handful of Jofa VM's, and a mix of other stuff.

No shoulder pads.

A huge mix of elbow pads, usually very old or very low end newer ones.

Alot of old shin pads, many of which seem to be Jofa.

Alot of old great ratty jerseys. NOBODY ever buys a jersey.

I've bought one jersey in my entire life (Moscow White Bears) and people think I'm weird because of it. Everyone's always asking if I'm Russian when I wear it.

This was especially awkward when it turned out I was playing in a skate full of Russians. I thought they were just cursing; turned out they were cursing ME.

Old thread but still. The older guys I've seen in the rinks here in Sweden seem to use pretty much the same skates and gloves as elsewhere, but the main difference being the helmets as alot of them sport the old Jofa 280 (Irbe style) or 290 (Tommy Söderström style), and 390/397 (can't think of anyone who used these in the NHL, but they're both similar to Selanne's 366 except the ear loops). Also the newer Jofa 690 is frequently used, so overall Jofa helmets are very common, but also some older CCM lids (Shanahan style).

Depends on how loaded people are, when the parking lot is full of S-classes/7-series/porsches etc they all show up with brand new top of the line stuffs

When they are poor -> amazing stuff = good old jofa shin/elbow/shoulder guards, tackla pants, cooper gloves/helmets, nike skates,..

Funny I just saw this thread right now. I barely noticed how many older guys (40+) wear Graf skates. A lot of older guys also use 100 flex shafts with whatever wood blade they can throw in it. They don't seem to pay attention to flex or curve at all.

I play with mostly older guys, probably between 30-45 years old. A lot of mid-level Bauer sticks, and a surprising amount of Sherwood (both wood and OPS). The rest is the odd Easton and Reebok; very few Warrior guys (usually just me and maybe one other guy). You'll also see third-tier sticks like Vic, or Powertek.

For gear, it's a total hodgepodge, like a walk down memory lane - Cooper, Hespeler, Ferland, Firstar, and DR. I couldn't even say what's the most common, it's all so random. Bauer is definitely the most popular helmet, followed by CCM, then Reebok.
