New gloves

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get some new gloves. I have about $100/$110 to spend. Currently I have 6-8 ?? year old TPS HG1's. They have held up well. They are loose fitting and I can't recall if they were a loose fit when new or not. I heard about the Bauer 4 rolls & Warrior Bullys. Any recommendations?

I have a pair of vapor xx's that are fantastic. Might be able to find a pair at close out.

Not a big fan of harrow gloves; they're about 100 but the fingers never stay in place.

4 rolls are a great choice.

Try thehockeyshop.com, they seem to always have pro gloves available around that price.

It really depends, are you looking for something tight fitting or loose fitting? The tightest gloves on the market are the supreme line of gloves by bauer, they're tight fitting on the contour of the hand and have a pretty tight wrists. The 4-Rolls are great gloves that are looser than the supremes in every area (Pure Hockey has the best selection of 4-rolls I've ever seen), probably similar to your R1 after you've broken them in. I've also heard great things about the TPS Response R8 Pro Lite (79 dollars on East West Hockey), and they fit similar to the 4-rolls, maybe just a hair tighter.

Oh sorry, you asked about the Warrior Bully's too, I actually really like these gloves, they felt great on the hand and wrist, you should definitely check them out. Be careful if you end up looking at the supreme gloves, especially the new line of one75 and one95 cause they are pretty lousy, not great mobility and the thumb lock hits your fingers and gets kinda annoying. But really, I've never heard anyone complain about 4-rolls, usually people really like them.

What kind of fit?

I recently replaced my R8's with One75's, they felt broken in by the end of the first game, have the thinnest/most sensitive palm I've ever used, have mesh gussets that breathe really well, have tons of cuff mobility, and seem very protective. But I like my gloves to fit very tight.

I really, really liked the Warrior Bully. It seemed very protective, looked great, felt comfortable, just a "basic" 4-roll type glove but still very nice for the money. It was just too big for me (and considering I just got One75's, everything else is too big).

If you're not sure what kind of fit you like, I recommend going into the store and trying a bunch on if at all possible. If you like loose, pretty much any 4 roll will work for you. The Bauer ones have a great rep on this board. If you decide you like a tighter fitting glove, you could try something like an easton stealth or a Bauer Supreme. Warrior also makes great gloves, but the quality is much better if you go custom.

There's just no substitute for trying them on though.

Yea, I just picked up a pair of these for $60 now that they are clearing them out. This is a great deal if you like the fit and style of the vapors...just went right to using them in a game from my old crusty CCMs and couldn't be happier with them, especially for the price. I really like the stretch palms, just hope they last.

I should get a picture up of mine, been meaning to for a while. Got them when they came out (2004) and still use them in every game. Only holes are from stitches coming undone along the sides of the fingers. Palm is still excellent, fit is fantastic, and the glove is amazingly broken in.

How should a glove fit? I've tried on Bauer 4-rolls & the Bullys and both felt like putting on a form fitting slipper compared to my current TPS HG1's. My HG1's are real loose now. (Would be great for an enforcer that wants to drop them fast...haha) It is hard to imagine that other models will be closer fitting than the 4 rolls I tried.

Yeah, the 4 rolls are pretty darn nice. I own two pair of them. They're form fitting but not as restrictive as the One90s were.

NBH 4 Rolls are great gloves if you want something a little roomier/looser with great protection, and still good mobility. If you want something tighter fitting and with superior mobility, I would take a look at the Vapor XXXX Pro's (the pro model is nylon, normal XXXX is leather). I am currently using the XXXX pros and love them. Only drawback is they don't have the best protection.

You can't go wrong with the NBH 4 Rolls or NBH XXXX Pros in my opinion.

I went to my LHS and tried on a bunch of gloves, and i prefered the SE16 the best. It was much more comfy then the bauer 4 rolls. I even tried on both with my eyes closed just to make sure. Why no love for the eastons? Do they suck and my hands are just weird or what?

No, I love the feel of Easton gloves. I thought the new S17 gloves felt better than anything else when I tried on several different pairs at a shop. But I couldn't pass up the old vapors when they went on clearance; got those for half the price of the S17.

I honestly am a major bauer whore, but am a big fan of the se16's. Really loved the feel of that glove.

You know that really funny because i am a huge Easton whore, thus is why i compared the bauer 4 rolls to the se16 with my eyes closed.

So yea flyers, try the se16, while they may not look great IMHO, i really like the feel of the glove.

Some places have the One90s on sale for about $100 now. The stretch palm is ridiculous and they are light as hell. If you want a good tight fit those are definitely something to consider.

I just picked up a pair of Bullies from Pure Hockey and love them. They fit pretty tightly and feel great. Plus, the weight is fantastic...lightest glove I've ever owned. In my opinion the Bullies are great value for the money. Pure Hockey seems to offer a lot more colors than any other retailer if you're looking for specific colors.

I stopped at my LHS and tried on the Bauer 4-rolls, Bullys, One75's, and a Vapor XXX prostock. Both the 4-rolls & Bullys felt good. Both tighter than my TPS HG2's. The One75 was nice but...I don't know. The XXX felt great and had great mobility but seemed like much less wrist protection(they were $130 too). That's all they had in my $100 budget.

Narrowed it down the the Bauer 4-rolls, Vapor XXV, One90, & Bullys. All are under $100. Never had a chance to try on the One90 or XXV. I'm open to traditional or tighter fitting. Want to make sure what I get will be durable over time.

That's a wide range of fit, from 4-Rolls to One90's.

My gut feeling is the Bauers would hold up better than the Warriors. Lots of guys on my team have used older Vapor series gloves for years without any problems, and those 4-Rolls seem to be very high quality. Not that the Warriors are bad, they're just new and untested.

I'm still loving my One75's, although they don't have a ton of wrist protection.

Jarick? What is the fit on your One75s? I tried them on, they felt alright, but how do they fit after a few games?

Did you try the se16's? I have been using them for the last couple of weeks and the black leather palms look pristine and give you great feel of the stick , and im really impressed with the glove overall, give them a shot before you make your final decision!

Just my two sense
