Graf (sidas) heat moldable insoles

Recommended Posts

*woops* i saw the question was already answered...

Anyways, as far as the "conformable" hockey ones go, I think there are 2 versions as the above poster mentioned. Hockey and Pro *I think*. They seem to differ in the the level of stiffness, support and materials. But basically the most noticeable difference is that one is thinner than the other which makes one a little lighter than the other as well as take up less volume due to thickness. So if you need all the volume you can, you may want to consider the thinner one. Alternatively, if you want to take up some more volume you could consider going to a ski shop and try the ski boot versions which are a bit thicker. As with the "Graf" Sidas footbeds, there is more than one conformable model in the ski versions (Ski, Ski Race, Ski Pro) and also vary in thickness, support, and weight.

Yep, two versions. I screwed up that first sentence. Custom pro hockey and custom hockey.

So which one is which?

Which one is the heat molded one?

As well anyone know a good place to get these done for my skates (easton 1500c) in the toronto area?

Just got a pair of the Custom Hockey Pro done. Feel pretty good so far. Feels like closer contact with my foot and the skate.

For anyone else here that has gotten these done did you find them a bit harder to position in the boot since they are a bit wider from the heel through the arch compared to other brands of footbeds?

They take a little extra effort to get in and out compared to other types and brands of insoles. To get mine out I need to pry them with a small screwdriver. I'm pretty sure this is normal since they are made to fit this way in your boot. My other Sidas for my Snowboard boots act the same way. After using these insoles I will never go to anything else. If anyone has these as an option I assure you that your search for the perfect insole will end with the Sidas custom insole.

somehow based on pics posted in this thread Sidas look fairly flat after molding so do they provide any arch support?

So for someone with a low arc would Sidas provide more or less support as comparing to yellow superfeets?

Thanks!

I don't think pictures can show it well. The Sidas custom will have what ever shape the bottom of your foot is. They also are fairly stiff to provide support. I have an average to high arch so my arch area has a fairly pronounced shape. With a lower arch yours will be less pronounced but it will fit your arch EXACT. That is the main benefit of them, that they fit the unique shape of your foot exact. No generic insole can work for everyone perfectly. Plus, I can't see how having a forced high arch generic insole pressing into a low arch foot could be comfortable. They aren't cheap at $80-$100 but Superfeet are around $35-$40 so I felt it was worth a shot. One less stick owned but more comfortable skates....lol. Oh, recommend getting a rebake if you get them since your ankle bones might be a bit off in the ankle pockets. Just don't bake them with them in or you'll ruin them.

Also, how do SIDAS compare to custom orthotics from a podiatrist?

THIS I would like to know. It's hard to believe that SIDAS would be better than a custom orthotic (made for your skates) from a podiatrist - but SIDAS would be cheaper/easier. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Cheers! ~katz

To answer Katz............. no i do not believe that the Sidas customs would be better then custom orthotics from a podiatrist because orthotics are meant, if i'm not mistaken, to help with certain things like pronation and the such. More corrective than just plain support.

Are these still being made? I can't find a dealer anywhere who does them.

My LHS, Cyclone Taylor Sports in Vancouver, has them.

Not helpful. Im looking for custom sidas footbeds (hence the thread topic), not general Graf product dealers.

If you really want a sidas, why not go to a ski shop that has one? That's where I had mine done. Took them out of my ski boots and put them in my skates. I've tried all the other alternatives (e.g. superfeet, Graf step in, a couple oters) other than the Graf Sidas (simply because I can't find a dealer) and they are the best I have tried. Not sure how much different a hockey skate specific insole would need to be compared to a ski specific insole. The process I went through is the same as on the video posted earlier in the thread.

I guess you didn't notice that when you click on a city that has the footbeds, a little "SIDAS" icon appears beside the address of the dealer.

It's not that I didn't notice - there just isn't one near here, I guess. There's only 1 Graf result near here at all, let alone one with sidas.

At least now I know it DOES show up in their dealer locator.

You're in soCal, correct? There are two dealers that I know of. The pro shop at Anaheim ice does them (got mine done there) and Jakes pro shop in el segundo does as well. Each place only has one or two guys who know how to do them correctly, so if you're planning on going, give them a call to first to make sure the right people are working when you want to go.

Thanks! Anaheim is still over an hour away but that's not terrible. Any idea what a pair cost?
