BLKHKhockey 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 When shooting pucks off-ice, does it matter what stick you're using? I use a senior stick now, 100 flex with a 4 inch plug but i'm afraid to shoot with it off plywood. Will it damage my blade if i continue shooting with it? I usually use a shorter INT 65 flex stick but i feel as if it won't do me much good when i get back on the ice with a higher flex stick. So is it okay to use my main stick or does the stick not matter as long as your shooting?
IniNew 53 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Better question, how in the world are you going from an INT 65 flex to a Senior 100 flex with a four inch plug?
Jarick 5 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 I try to use a stick that's a couple inches shorter (since I'm not on skates) and feels about as stiff when cut down.So typically if I use a whip flex stick on ice, I'd use an intermediate off ice. If I use 85 flex on ice, use 75 flex off ice, etc.
BLKHKhockey 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 My INT is from about 3 years ago with a 2 inch plug in it. The toe got chipped up pretty bad so i just kept it for street hockey/shooting.Edit: Actually, I'm just going to shoot off some card board with my ice stick. I figure it's better to give myself a disadvantage while practicing. Now I just need to get a back stop so my neighbors stop bitching about pucks in their yards. sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 There's several threads about good off-ice surfaces to shoot on. I snagged some masonite for about 10-15 bucks, hit it with some pledge and it's working great. I use my game sticks and they don't get damaged at all. Michael9 57 Report post Posted August 30, 2009 I just use my ice sticks on a skill pad. Sometimes its weird few shoots going back to the ice because your used to a longer stick.
epstud74 24 Report post Posted August 30, 2009 Your local ice rink should have a place to shoot from as well
Scotty 8 Report post Posted September 5, 2009 Practicing with something different than what you typically use during games is largely pointless. The whole point of practicing is to repeat motions until you become comfortable and therefore more proficient at them. If you're changing variables, you'll never get used to it when you go back and forth all the time.Find a different surface to shoot off of. Perhaps some plexiglass or sheet of hard plastic. farhanshak 1 Report post Posted September 5, 2009 to take care of the height problem...i usually shoot of a balance board...or i will lay down some bricks (which are about as high as skates and shoot while standing on those)i usually use my game sticks when practicing shooting in the backyard...just so the feel is the same in the game.shoot of a regular ice surface pad which i picked up at a LHS and try to shoot about 75-100 shots 2 or 3 times a week.also if you can...just shoot of rollerblades. i know a few guys on my team do this during the summer. i havent tried it but apparently its pretty alright.hope this helps. :D

gxc999 7 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 When you have no available ice or space to shoot in, as I often find myself, I just practice the motion in my shoes, with a stick but no puck. Believe it or not, it helps me a lot.
