One95 vs X60 stick

Recommended Posts

for anyone that's used the x60 and xxx lite please post

if this stick is really a reincarnation of the xxx lite i will have to get some.

It's been a while since I've used a XXXlite but the X:60 feels lighter and more balanced than what I remember the XXXlite. The X:60 also shoots better, the blade is stiffer and more lively than I recall too. I really didn't care for either stick but they both kicked well.

And btw, the Vapor XV shaft was tapered. It wasn't like the AK27, it became the Dolomite.

Ok, skated with the X:60 shaft for the first time this morning, we have a game tomorrow so it was a lot of PP and shooting. Perfect timing. First, I got the 'Clear' finish thinking it wouldn't be that slippery. Well, it was... It reminded me of trying to hold on to glass. LOL. So, after a quick candy cane tape-up I was set. It felt good weight wise, balanced nice(ly) with the SE 16 blade, and it had a nice puck feel to it as well. (I don't know how much of the feel was the blade and how much was the shaft...) As far as the Intelli-Sense stuff, I couldn't tell much, but I felt like I was able to lean into my slapper well. Better than I could with my XXX-Lite, and about the same as I can with my AK27 + S15 blade. Where the shaft made a huge impression on me was the quick little wristers and snap shots. It had GREAT pop and snap. I was very pleased with the accuracy and velocity I was getting on quick release situation shots and passes. Overall, I am very pleased with the shaft choice, other than the lack of Tactile/Stick 'Um.

A few quick side notes; the 87 flex felt stiffer than what it was rated. I cut about 2" off and it felt similar to an Easton 100. This isn't a bad thing, just something I noticed. Possibly, but doubtfully, this is due to the Intelli-Sense Dual Flex Zones. Lastly, the shaft had a bubbled feel to it from just below my bottom hand, to about 2" above the hosel opening. I'm not really sure how to describe it, but if I ran my hand down the shaft slowly (That's what she said.) I could feel the the shaft bubbling in and out. Similarl to the Easton Z-Bubble shafts, but just much less extreme. Take about 1/4th of the Z-Bubble bubble and put three right in a row on the bottom 1/3rd of the shaft.

It felt similar to the XXX-Lite. Same rounded shaft dimensions and thin walls. I'd like to pick up the one piece X:60 and see how similar they truly are.

So let's get down to it here and see if anyone really knows. What is the TRUE difference between the XXXX and X:60? Don't feed me Bauer's bullcrap about TeXtreme carbon fiber, PureShot blades, or IntelliSense Shot Technology.... most of the experienced players and members of this site know that selling sticks now is ALL about marketing, fancy technology names, and having the top players use repainted versions of the newest sticks.

Did Bauer dump you by text or something?

EXCELLENT. I love the two brand new sticks i'm using now (One95 two-piece and unused original Cyclone 95 w/ S15 blade), but the shaft dimensions and feel of the X:60 shaft just captured me the other day at the store. I enjoy rounded shafts and the corners of it felt great. So yours was an 87 cut 2" or so? That would put it at about 96 on the rating, so 100 as you said sounds right. I didn't know if the long taper and low kickpoint would cause it to feel much stiffer as many now do. I had to cut my One95 4", so I bought a 77 and it now is supposed to be a 92, but feels like an 85. I might give that 77 a shot again as I take a lot of wristers and snappers. Also going to try it with a Dolomite blade. Thanks so much for your time and review.

No problem man. You're right, my cut line is about a quarter inch above the 96 line. So I'm sittin' at about a 94.5 flex. :P If I could go back I probably would have ordered the 77, but hey, you live and you learn! As far as the Dolomite blade goes, try snagging an HD if you aren't going to do pro-stock. I liked the one I had in my XXX-Lite shaft and have heard great reviews about them on here.

Yeah that's the one I was looking into. Now I just have to research Warriors blade lies because they offer a 4,5, and 6 in my pattern!

Can someone help me with some measurements for the X60 shaft and blade.

Hockymonkey has the X60 shaft at 54 inches, is this correct?

Also, does anyone know how long the X60 blade is? I have a TPS R8 that's 4 1/2 inches and a Harrow tapered blade that measures at 6".

My issue is with the 77 flex and having to cut it about 3 1/2 inches off a standard OPS (60"). This leaves me with too stiff of a flex on the low-tapered sticks. If I could get the shaft plus a 4 1/2 inch blade I would only have to cut 2" off.

Thanks

Wondering if these X:60 shafts/sticks feel stiffer because of the taper. I know the XXXX had a very long taper and most said they had to go down a flex rating for it to feel normal again. Is that the case with the X:60? Not sure if the taper is the same.

I do remember feeling the X:60 in the store and thinking they felt a bit stiffer than normal for the flex rating.

What did you compare it with?

Me? I compared it to several One95s of the same flexes. Given the same flex ratings, I can only conclude that the different kickpoints were the culprit. As I said, I know the Vapor XXXXs were notorious for feeling stiffer because of the long taper and low kickpoint.

I had my x-60 and 30 lite side by side, the shaft feel was very similar but the 60 was a little lighter and shot better. Puck feel is personal pref but the 30 was more dampened.

How is the feedback or lack of feedback you get when you puck handle a personal preference? That's like saying that it's personal preference that a grip stick has grip on it. It's personal preference whether you like it or not.

Because not everyone likes the same thing? Kind of like how some people said the XXXX had great puck feel, and others said it was the worst stick ever made. Personal preference on how you like your blades to feel.

I'm currently playing with an RBK 8k shaft/blade combo with a Datsyuk pattern and I was thinking of trying the X60 stick.

anybody know what Bauer blade pattern compares to an RBK Datsyuk pattern?

Did you read what I wrote? You can like the lack of feedback but that doesn't change how much vibration the stick relays from the blade to the handle.

I'd like to know how many people thought the Vapor XXXX had good feel actually used sticks with good feel for the puck.

LOL. Yes. After a weekend of games it is feeling more noticeable. I'll just have to adjust, no biggie.

If it doesn't work well for you or your style, throw that sucker up for sale and buy a lower flex! No sense in potentially throwing your game or shot off just because of a small mistake in flex selection. Someone will buy it.

I bought my One95 in a 77 because I had to take 4" off it (damn extra long shafts), but it's still a touch too whippy for me, especially now that I've cracked the SOB after only using it for a handful of inline hockey games. Knowing that the One95s are a bit whippier than the stated flex and the X:60s are a bit stiffer than the stated flex, I guess I'll try the 77 again.

In the market for a new stick and have narrowed choices down to (in order):

1 - x60 LE - Backstrom

2 - one95 - Backstrom

3 - s19 - Sakic

My play style has kind of morphed as follows :

Carry the puck and dangle a lot all over the ice.

95% of shots are now snap shots/wrist shots , 5% slap shots/one timers.

shots are either off the rush or from the circles in.

Now the main question I have is what are the differences in terms of Snap shots and wrist shots from the x60 and one95. The x60 has always been sort of marketed as a stick for a player with my kind of playing style while the one95 has sort of acquired the image that it is for people who load up and crank slap shots. I am also curious as to how the s19 may fit into this.

Having never used one of these sticks I am relying on this board to lead me to a solid conclusion. I have picked up and kind of played around with all 3 sticks in my hands at the shop and each feel nice. I am coming most recently off a ak-one piece and dolo dd (snapped).

Any info on the sticks and how they play out would be appreciated.

I have used all 3 sticks and i do like the one95 as a jack of all trades stick i can lean into a wrist shot and bang out a great slapshot with it,i like the feel abd the blade. The one95's are built to last i have had my original one for over a season and its still going strong

The X60 is a good stick as well i had to down size the flex from my one95's 102 flex to 87 flex i find the vapor line to be a bit stiffer, it took me a while to get used to rounder small diameter shaft compared to the one95. I like the way the x60 shots as i am a wrist shot guy i find it has a quick release and the LE is my favourite stick at the moment

Easton S17 i did not like and i have tried many easton sticks and i do not like the feel,

I used both in the same pattern and flex and they are both great sticks but when my one95 broke I missed it more then my 60 when that broke. I use my 60 still as a two piece and I enjoy it alot and it makes me want to actually purchase a new one.

I played for the first time with my new One95 last night. It definitely shoots well but the first thing I noticed is how much harder it is to feel the puck than with a vapor stick. The only way I can describe it is a kind of "dead" feeling in the stick, like you're cut off from the puck. It makes sense since the vapor line is supposedly for more puckhandling and finesse while the one95 is raw power. Maybe I'll get used to it though.
