Custom stick ordering

Recommended Posts

I'm sure that this has been covered before, so I do apologize in advance, but I really cannot find the info I'm looking for with search. I've heard that you can custom order sticks from most companies, and because I use such a unique curve, I'm really interested in doing this. Does anyone know how much extra this costs to ask, say Bauer or Easton, to completely customize a curve for you on one of their priciest sticks? Do you have to order a minimum? I'm guessing you just need to find the right phone number or email address to do this? Mod please close and redirect if this is a well-covered topic that I just didn't find. THanks in advance, guys.

I dare say you could get Bauer or Easton to do that if you knew someone.. but failing that theres a couple of smaller companies (names escape me) that will do custom wood and/or composite blades (usually a minimum of 12). I dont think you'll have much luck getting sticks made.

go to your lhs and they should be able to help you. typically the minimum order is 12. It'll be a lot of money, so unless you're loaded off your ass, i wouldn't do it.

The major guys won't do it at the retail level.

The ones I can think of off the top of my head are:

Christian Hockey. Wood blades, minimum order of 3.

Easton. Wood blades, minimum order of 12.

Ballistik. I've heard they still do customs, but I have no idea for how much.

Harrow Sports. I had some wood blades made through them, minimum order of 6.

Reebok. Somebody on this site got custom composite blades made up, but that was the first time I've heard of that happening.

If you want custom one piece sticks, you're basically out of luck. Your best bet is custom blades. If you don't like wood blades though, again you're basically out of luck.

what kind of curve do u use? maybe if you post it here we could help you find a pro pattern that's similar.

Actually, I use the Warrior Weight/Vanek.... lie 4, 1/2'' mid w/ open face. I just keep breaking them and remembered that I had good luck w/ Easton sticks...never tried a Bauer composite. Don't get me wrong, I love Warrior, and that curve is the best curve every produced, but I just heard someone saying they had done this (ordered custom sticks) and wondered if it was possible. Actually it was my friend who is a manager at the Kettler center, where the caps training facility is. I wonder if he or I was just confused about what we were talking about. I mean, I know pros get their curves custom ordered, but I was skeptical when he told me anyone can do this.

THanks for all the input guys. But hey, if you guys know any pro curves like that for a righty (tough to find) I'd love any info you got. I love the low lie curves.

I use the Vanek curve as well. I've found that Bauer's P89 is comparable. I've ordered that pattern from the NikeBauerID site for a few OPS. That's one way to go if you want a one95 or Vapor XXXX.

Why do I want to say I heard Bauer will do it if you will front a LARGE amount of money? I think thats probably my dreams...

Id say keep using the warrior's, but I know what its like to blow through blades. Might as well pay money to get a product you like instead of something that wont last longer than a week or two. I have not found Easton's replacement blades to be particularly durable since after the sicore blades.

Ballistik does custom composite. PM if youre interested. I know blades are minimum of 12, and that runs me something like 60 or 70 a blade. Dont forget the mold fee (not to mention I am not sure this is open to the public anymore, but it can never hurt to ask).

Yes. Each manufacturers numbers are a little different. Your best bet is to look at the Pattern DB at the top of the page. The mods have taken measurements to a normalized lie value so it is a direct comparison.

a warrior lie 4 is like an easton/bauer lie 5, IIRC

really? i thought lie was pretty much a universal measure...different producers have different values?

again yes...i thought the vanek/weight was a heel curve not mid, and i believe the p89 is closest in bauer ID (like a poster said above)

we've gotten custom 10ks, uplus, se16s, and dolomites done. no bauer's ever though. maybe our reps love us?

How are you breaking Warrior blades?

Shaft broke. 2 of them. But they lasted awhile. I'm not saying that they aren't quality, I just remember that my Eastons that I used to use would last longer (maybe I was smaller?). Thinking about it, I think i'll just stay with the Warrior. For feel etc., I think probably the best stick I've ever had (Kronik). But i also haven't used any other stick since 05/06 when I played more seriously. Thanks for all the info guys.

ONE last question for anyone who's tried it. I've never been big on this b/c I know it makes the blade weaker and my wallet can't afford new $250.00 sticks every other week, but if you heat the blade, can you mold it enough to effectively change the lie? I've only every heard of people just shaping the curve a certain way.

Heating / torching your blade is really only an option with wood. Those methods will damage composites (not to mention that composites don't really bend the same way wood will and you can actually melt the foams inserted in the blades of many modern composites to improve feel).

Nutshell: Heating composite blades = bad idea

Warrior Weight/Vanek=Bauer P89=Easton Darby Pro, lie 5.25. Those are the clones, TPS Nash is a touch more curve but close enough to be an easy transition.

If you're going through shafts why not go two piece with either the Dolo HD or AK27HD blades and shaft of choice? Actually since you're using the Kronik, why not use the Dolo Spyne HD blade with a shaft?
