Easton S19 helmet

Recommended Posts

So, I've heard that this helmet fits big and that it fits small. Can anyone tell me how it compares to an S17? Is the sizing similar? Is this helmet narrower or wider than the S17 or is it the same width? Thanks.

It's been said in this thread, that most people had to go up one size from the norm because of the stiffness of the helmet.

I don't follow you. Why would the stiffness have an influence on what size someone is? I am a large in the 5500 but a medium in the S19.

While some helmets will flex out, the S19 will not. Same goes the other way. When you add a visor, the helmet will not flex it to accommodate the visor, and then you have all the issues people are having installing the visor.

I got to try this helmet on the other day at my LHS, and I usually wear a large. This helmet, in a large, fit me fine. I guess the shape of your head can also kind of determine the size you need.

Are you suggesting that, with other helmets, people force the helmet to flex on their heads? That seems like a completely incorrect way to choose a helmet size.

So what you're saying is that this helmet is not for someone with a 7 1/8 hat size but has to grind padding out on the sides from the temples, over the ears, and down behind the ears where the ear slings attach to relieve serious pressure point issues. I've had to do this in the high end mission as well as a CCM Vector.... Also a reason why I always pull the ear pieces out... just not enough room for them and my noggin to fit comfortably.

I'm a bit confused by your post.

Large fits size 7 1/8 - 7 5/8 hat size.

The main issue with some people not fitting properly is the shape of their heads.

The question was about the shape of my noggin..... most helmets out there that are sized to fit my hat size need to have padding removed on the sides of my head because they are too narrow. I have more of an oval\round head shape...... then again, maybe the helmets are designed for block (cement) heads... or narrow minded people.....haha. With little flex in the shell, I'm left with removing\altering padding to get a good fit.

Have you actually tried on an S19 yet? Your hat size is at the bottom of the size range for a Large. The Large is wider than the Medium. You might be lucky with the fit.

No, I'll try one on whenever I happen to stop into a shop that has one sitting there... and when\if the cost comes down. I'm definitely curious about them 'cuz one of the things I've always wondered was why the hockey helmet shells were so soft. Being a ref, I have had some very unique up close and personal views of various helmets doing their job. It can be a little disconcerting to watch the curved shell of a helmet go "flat" as it hits the glass or boards.

IIRC the 4/26 is when dealers who can sell on the net are allowed to do so. Dealers though get this helmet whenever they put in their booking order, some have had them for months, so its really depending on the shop. Pretty sure though that's just the "official" release date.

No, that's not what I'm saying. However, I don't hesitate to believe that some people do wear helmets like that.

Does anyone know what country the S19 helmet is made in? I'm assuming it would be written somewhere on the helmet itself?

Thanks.

I tried mounting my NBH 9500 cage to the helmet. It doesn't fit. The cage is too wide at the J-clips. Bending it is damn near impossible without really changing the shape and integrity of the cage.

So it looks like I'll have to wait for the S19 cage to appear somewhere.

Easton helmets don't play nice with other front clips.

Try getting the old CCM front clips, they look like Ls.

The other thing I noticed is that the Bauer two strap screws that I installed in the back were not going in nicely. Are they generally a different thread with those Bauer screws? I didn't force it as it felt like it could strip.

I'll look into those CCM clips. Thanks.

Some people wear their helmets like that because they have wide\round heads that don't fit the shape\width of the helmet that is supposed to fit their hat size. Others will pull the liner and shave padding off to relieve the tight spots. Good reason to try the different sizes on this bucket... Sounds like there will definitely be some folks that simply cannot wear this one.
