Did I get scammed?

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a hockey stick off eBay. It was listed as an SE16 and the pictures in the auction was of an SE16. So when the stick arrives and I unpack it I instantly notice how heavy it is and that it is not infact an SE16, I even have other retail and pro-stock SE16's too compare it them. This stick is another stick repainted to look like it an SE16, most likely an ST, but it feels even heavier than that. Do I have a reason to be upset and contact the seller? Or should I just assume that the seller isn't a gear nutcase like us and just let it go. Currently leaning towards the later, but just thought I'd hear what you guys think about it.

Wasn't listed as prostock or retail, but the photos and nameplate gave it away that it was prostock. I'm not going to contact the seller and just let it be, not much to be done about it, but at the same time I'm pretty disappointed about it.

Yeah whenever it's pro stock you can't be sure what it is...I always ask the seller: "Are you sure this is a real ....?"

Half the time they think I'm crazy, other half they're like "Yeah bro!"

If it's prostock it could be anything. I have a synergy sl repainted to a synergy se that isn't hollow in the bottom third of the shaft: it's completely reinforced. I also paid $200 for a used one95 that is just a lightweight one90.

Prostock=buyer beware in some cases

I think you have a case, especially if it was listed as a 16 and the pictures in the auction are not the same as the product you purchased. You bid on an SE 16 and did not receive one. I would at least contact the seller to see what he has to say.

If you got sent what was in the picture and it said pro stock, don't complain or you'll come out looking like a jerk.

He got what he ordered. The stick is repainted to look like a se16

Yeah too bad man, but like people have said, prostocks repainted all the time to look like newer models. So you have no case. Sundin's twigs we're always repainted I think he may have used one of the original synergys his whole career.

As long as that was stated in the e-bay auction then i agree but it sounds like he was expecting an SE16 not a repaint.

It may not be an SE16, but it is going to be a high end stick if it was for pro use. If you paid less than retail, you really didn't get ripped off.

What's he going to do? email ebay and say this guy sold me a stick but it looks exactly like the retail but i know its not the right one.

This will never go anywhere, the guy that sold it probably doesn't even know they use repainted sticks in the NHL.

If you haven't given feedback yet then I'd contact the seller and just explain that you didn't get the stick you thought it was. The person might be very naive about sticks and it was an honest mistake. Regardless, they also might offer some money back to appease you if they're afraid you'll leave negative feedback. Don't threaten it though, that will just make them defensive.

Even if they turn you down though don't leave negative feedback. Sounds like they sent you what they showed in the pictures and unless you had asked them in advance if it was a repainted stick then they most likely didn't misrepresent anything. It's a lesson chalked up like people have said about buying Pro Stocks.

i completely stay away from pro stock sticks on ebay for this very reason... unless they're coming from a seller like Al's or Sauce. in which they usually know and communicate the discrepancy.

it wouldn't be fair to give negative feedback, because he responded to the best of his knowledge. if the guy isn't an expert or at the very least KNOWLEDGEABLE on the topic of pro stock sticks, he's going by what the graphics say, and they said SE16.

i guess what you COULD do is explain your situation and ask him for a refund.

People care way too much about weight on sticks, so they're surprised when they get something that's 40 grams heavier than they expected. Pro stock models are often heavier than retail, players need to suck it up and quit bitching.

If a large portion of Pro stock Easton sticks are actually STs...maybe that says something about the durability and reliability of that stick...at a pro level, obviously they're getting them for free however they're probably trusting that they won't fold in important game situations...you always feel bad for those guys where their stick just dies, plays goes the other way and the game is lost...

I remember picking up a Heatley pro stock when he was still using the 1st generation Stealth when CNTs came out and that thing weighed a ton...

Just my 2 cents...

its not so much about obsessing over weight... in this situation anyways. it's about thinking you're buying one thing and ending up with something completely different. it just so happens that he identified the issue because of the weight.

the difference between an S19 and an S11 (for example) goes a lot deeper than just a a few simple grams.

I'd agree with ya but it was stated clearly as pro stock. There've been several times I've gotten a pro stock stick that was nothing close to what it was painted as, sometimes I've loved it and sometimes I've haven't loved it as much, but in every case, the stick was quality. If it's being used in the NHL, it probably doesn't suck. The buyer should simply treat this as a learning experience.

bad luck buddy but i wouldnt say you got scammed

I know absolutely nothing about sticks and if the stick said Easton SE16 on it and its something else i would still list it as an SE16 just because of the re paint

Suppose that might be the disadvantage of buying pro stock sticks

i think you are outta luck on this since he sent you what was pictured probably. I wouldn't be so pissed though, it is an NHL level stick so you didn't really get "scammed", you paid for a Lamborghini and got a Ferrari

Got a link to the original listing? Just from the sounds of things, it doesn't look like you've got much of a leg to stand on though.

here's a thought:

in a way, the manufacturers are the ones scamming you/us... into thinking that the majority of the players are using these top end sticks full of amazing technology, when really it seems they're all using the ST, 7K, etc.
