Big Guys in the house?!

Recommended Posts

Height: 5'9'' Current Weight: 220ish

Started playing hockey at 16 @ 180lbs, for the most part pretty lean and good muscle mass.

Went to college and didn't play.

Got a g/f around the 200lb mark when I was a big dude (kinda like ronnie on jersey shore but as an indian dude). Was in that relationship for 3.5yrs and blew up to 270-280 and started playing hockey again.

Got down to 215-220 in 4 years.

Now i'm probably gaining weight again since breaking ankle, arrrrrrrrrrrgh!!

I find the biggest problem in a no check league is that because I'm big, people bounce off of me and fall.

Then I get a penalty.

I was literally standing still one time, and a girl from the other team who had to have weighed 100lbs soaking wet with equipment on skated hard into me. She bounced, hit the ice, and I got two for roughing.

I also have short little legs for my size, so I have a very low center of gravity and am hard to knock down. Therefore I rarely fall in a collision or when guys "try" to trip me.

So, yeah, most of the penalties I get are penalties for being big.

I don't know that I have ever been happier not to understand a reference.

Just found this thread, So I thought I'd chime in.

5'11" and 380lbs. I use to weigh in at close to 450 but I sai, wht the hell am I doing? My goal is to hit 350 this year and then hopefully 300. So yeah, Big guy here who loves the game. Sadly enough I have the same problem as the other poster with the low center of gravity. They bounce off my fat and I also get called for roughing when I'm just standing still. Go figure

6' 200lbs here. Was getting near 220 at one point but had enough of that. Hockey has been my motivation to get my butt in gear and start working out more.

6ft tall, now at about 190lbs after almost hitting 210lbs. Lost a little more recently with this stay at the hospital, so will have to bulk up again.

6' 3" 235lb. Solid and fast for my size (and skill level).

I used to get silly penalties from collisions with other players, but the refs at the rinks I play at know me. Now if another skater and I are going for the puck and we get to the same spot at the same time, they won't call me for checking. My favorite is when I'm skating up the boards with the puck and the D tries to pinch me along the boards. Nowhere in the rule book does it say I have to stop :)

6'1", 150lbs. McDonalds twice a day isn't working so I might have to hit the weights.

Try eating over maintenance every day. 2700 calories, 180 grams of protein, 250 grams of carbs, and 75 grams of fat. Just dont exceed these numbers.

Oh I meant McDonalds twice a day on top of my other meals. Yesterday I had 13 tacos for lunch. I eat a pretty decent snack after school (a whole frozen pizza or some spaghetti/pasta). I usually have pancakes or eggs for breakfast. And then i usually have dinner after which is usually pretty big. So I think I'm eating enough, maybe not though

6'2" 210 lbs. and climbing... it's all muscle, I swear!

theres a garfield comic that comes to mind from like 10 years ago where hes flexing along with Jon and then shapes all his fat to look like big muscles cracks me up being reminded of that by this post.

I actually had to buy my buddies pants since they don't make my size or If i wanted a new pair he could have called CCM and got them made for me for $500. So I just said I'll buy his pants (he only charged me $50)and man are they big. I need to tie them up good cause they fall so much and I have like two feet of string left over that I need to cut soon. Plays in the UHL and his name is Brandon Tedstone. Use to be a big guy at 450 but he has recently undergone surgery to lose some weight. I think he's down to 300 now cause of Gastric bypass.
