TotalOne vs EQ5

Recommended Posts

Will these skates being for the same target market? I think the Bauers will be selling for more though, right? Do you guys know where I can find the weights of these wheels? I have a pair of EQ5s coming in the mail, I'm pretty yoked about them!!!

No.

The one100s will be in the same area as the EQ5s (600 PP). TO kicks eq5's ass in almost every category (weight, performance, stiffness, price).

Best way I can put this... Your EQ5s are porsche's, the TO's are lambo's. One is better and costs more than the other (also more rarer). EQ5 is still a great skate, but with the TO its just that much better.

Have you tried them both?

Its like comparing a one95 to a one85 (sticks). Its a big difference.

I thought the one95 and one85 were fairly similar sticks, both considered high end and the main differences being in the blade? Either way, on paper the eq5 may not hold its own compared to the TO, but Chippa is right, the boot that fits your foot best is going to be the better skate. People often get way to consumed with just having a particular skate and not with what is best for them.

The EQ5 is a reverse engineered ONE90.

Let's give Easton a bit more credit than that.

They figured out that rigidity ALL over the boot isn't the best approach. They're putting the carbon fiber in areas which have the greatest stress/need for responsiveness. Let's just see how it works out for them.

Why does it take them so long to figure this out?

Where is the love in the NHL for early seeding of EQ5?

I'm looking forward to next season's improved EQ5 already.

Since I have a huge foot size, no. But I saw them both in like October. TO is the better skate.

And yeah...what fit your foot the best is what's best for you, but from what I gathered this thread was comparing to items regardless of fit. And if that's the case, its TO all the way.

you can tell by looking at them?

Yes.

I've also tried on the TO, not eq5, will eventually but aren't in a rush. I don't know why you're so defensive on eq5s. As stated previously, they are basically a cross between one90s and easton skate technology, which still isn't there compared to Bauer. I've spent plenty of time with Eq5s, and while still very nice, aren't that great. Easton has probably another 2-3 years before it gets to the same quality level Bauer has imo.

This thread is not making sense to me. Is the EQ5 eastons top skate? It can't be comparible to One90s, those were 3 years ago.

Are the TOs that much better than the One95s?

Personally I have not used anything else but Easton skates over the past 9 years and I don't see how Bauer is so much more advanced. But maybe I'm biased.

Just because the EQ5 is Easton's top skate doesn't automatically make it comparable to other manufacturers top end skates. Take a very dramatic example...a top model Ford is not in the same class as a top end Mercedes or Porsche. Both are the most advanced and highest level for their respective company but are at very different levels of performance.

In the end if you like Eastons and they fit you then go with them.

If Easton is your brand and fits your foot the best, then you have made the right decision. Let us know how you like the skates. I am not busting chops but would like to hear some serious feedback from a guy that prefers Easton skates. Thanks. :)

Agreed, but Easton-Bauer relationship is not comparible to Mercedes-Ford! Easton is also a top dog in the hockey industry. That being said, I think Bauer may have the perceived upper in skates, while Easton clearly owns the stick market. I'll let you guys know how the EQ5s turn out, won't have for another 3 weeks though.

Easton may still have the majority of the stick market but Bauer has made great strides and I'll bet they're closing the gap quicker than Easton would like.

I wouldn't say Bauer has the "perceived upper" in skates. They own the skate market. I'm not sure what the exact numbers are but it's well over 50% with the rest split between rbk, ccm, graf, and easton. They're also making significant ground with their sticks, but I agree that easton does dominate there.
