Where does your NHL team fall in your cities sports hierarchy

Recommended Posts

I'll chime in about BFLO and I was surprised but it strikes me as true that despite losing and never having a winning plan from year to year a ton of folks still follow the Bills

Bills

Sabers

Bandits

Bisons

chicago:

4 years ago:

bears

cubs

white sox/ bulls. they were about even.

blackhawks (most people didnt even know there was a hockey team)

now:

bears/ blackhawks (amazing what winning will do..)

cubs

white sox

bulls

yes the hawks are hot right now, but they will never rank ahead of the bears and cubs... Do you listen to sports talk radio ? There isn't one show dedicated to the hawks

Redskins

Maryland (football or basketball)

Wizards

Caps

Georgetown

Natinals

Mason

UVA/VT

I agree with the first two but the caps have definitely taken over that #3 spot and most maryland fans i know are huge caps fans as well so i might even say they tie maryland for this season

A Pats ticket used to be a must go but now folks are like, "Nah, I'll just watch it at home."

I think watch-at-home is eating into ticket sales for a lot of events, though. Going to a game means you have to shell out for parking, tickets, beer, food, etc. A 12-pack and some brats costs ~20 bucks a game and most people have an HD TV now.

Broncos

Nuggets

Rockies (last couple seasons at least)

Avs

Back on topic:

I agree with your ranking, Forsberg91, but it seems whoever's winning gets the press. Everyone was a "fan" when the Rockies were in the World Series or the Av's in the Cup Finals. However, most games you can walk up to the gate at Coors Field and get a ticket. The Av's had a great season this year and I still saw a lot of empty seats at the games I attended.

My best guess:

Michigan

Lions

Pistons (Led NBA in attendance last year, though I can't think of a single big-time fan among my friends)

Tigers

Red Wings (Tough call. Most years, they're the only ticket in town. But Detroit sports fans seem to be loyal to their losers).

Michigan State

I have to disagree. First off, let's pro-rate football. The Lions have great attendance because they have 8 games, if Detroiters had to lose a team they would probably vote the Lions off the Island, we're all getting tired of waiting and never getting anywhere. And the tigers can pretty much do no wrong. Even in the basement years they had decent attendance, Much better than what the pirates have now from the same position. So I would go

Michigan(In Danger after some bad football years but still strong)

Tigers

Pistons/Red Wings (I see a lot more red wings stuff, and more talk about the wings, but the pistons have better attendance)

Lions

Michigan State.

I'm from San Diego and most people down here are Ducks or Kings fans. So Cal in general is...

Lakers

Chargers

Raiders

Dodgers

Padres

Kings

Ducks

Angels

Clippers

Of course, the more the team wins the more bandwagon fans hop on and mess with this kind of ranking. Most die hard hockey and baseball fans down here absolutely despise the Ducks and Angels.

Also, Raiders/Chargers fans are pretty even. I would consider it more of a tie and even when the Ducks were winning and the Kings were sucking ass there were still more Kings fans.

Sooo you wern't alive 3 years ago? lol The Rangers will sell tickets for the exact same reason the Knicks will sell tickets. They're in NYC. It won't even matter if they play poor or not.

I meant the Texas Rangers. They are such a joke of a team and the amount of people who follow them astonish me. They have never been good, Hicks makes stupid choices with the teams at least he sold the majority and it's baseball dammit how can you watch it.

The only cool thing about the rangers is the hot broads that line the Ball Park in Arlington in the summer.

End rant, I just think Hicks should have sold them a while back and focused on the Stars haha.

My idea for DFW.

Cowboys

UT (football)

A&M (football)

Mavs/Stars

Rangers

FC Dallas

The reason the Rangers still sell tickets is because its Cheap. Lots of promotions (can anyone say $1 hot dog night?) and they made it a serious "family" atmosphere.

Summer:

1.Tigers

2.Lions

3.Michigan Football

4a. Wings/Pistons offseason

4b. Michigan State football

Fall:

1.Lions

2.Michigan Football

3.Tigers (if they are playoff bound they move to #1 until their season ends, if they're terrible they move to 4)

4.Michigan State Football

Winter:

1.Red Wings

2.Pistons

3.Michigan State Basketball (may move to #2 if the Pistons are terrible)

4.Lions (off season moves/draft)

5.Michigan Basketball

6.College Hockey

Spring:

1.Tigers

2.Red Wings

3a.Pistons (Depending on the Playoffs)

3b.Michigan State Basketball (Depending on the NCAA tourney run)

3c.-Lions Draft

These are my thoughts based on their impact to my businesses and what I hear people talking about on a daily basis. Pretty much the only team that has interest year round is the Lions. As bad as they are, there will always be people willing to talk about how bad the Lions are and how they are going to turn things around (blind faith I suppose). Throw in Michigan State and Michigan Football and you can always find something football related going on (draft, recruiting, spring ball, fall camp, etc) and people are talking about it. The rest of the sports are seasonal (Tiger Baseball in the summer)/performance related, as many people in the area are major bandwagon jumpers. Recent examples are the Detroit Tigers the last few years with their improvement from terrible to mediocre, the Pistons with their fall from great to lousy, and the Michigan Football fans who become Michigan State Basketball fans every winter. The Wings' popularity grows after football season and picks up for the playoffs. Much of that is a product of their years of success, with the regular season not followed by some fans and the amount of people who just do not follow hockey.

Phillies

Eagles

Flyers

Sixers

Not sure why the Sixers even have a team anymore.

Agree on the order. You could probably plug in the Wings & even the Union ahead of the Sixers. I believe the Sixers have been for sale for almost two years now, no takers.

Sounds about right to me but it seems like the Ducks have been more popular then the Kings the last few years.

OH... the Ducks are a team?

I didn't feel like they needed to be included.
