CCM U+ CL Skate

Recommended Posts

No doubt the U+ is almost a clone to the Vapor skate in design but as another poster said CCM would be nuts not to learn from a competitors market success. Bauer is by far the leader in skates world wide so why not use the design and try to pickup some market share. Regardless, I too like what I see about these skates, much nicer look than the U+ Reloaded. I tryed the Reloaded around Christmas time,( a nice present from the wife) but found it to be a very slim fit in the forefoot area. It was an E width skate which usually fits me quite well in a CCM skate but it was still not wide enough to be comfortable for my liking. Otherwise the skate was very nice. I've returned them for an exchange, since and ended up with, you guessed it the Bauer Vapor XXV's which fit me perfectly. If the new U+ is a bit wider at the forefoot like the Bauer Vapor skate I think CCM will have a real winner with this skate. CCM is starting to get it, they need a line of skates that will fit a majority of peoples feet with good quality and durability like the Bauer lines. I think they've headed in the right direction here.

How do you guys like the liner of the skates?

Synthetic.

My 10 year old has had a pair of U12s for around 3 months. He skates around 5 times a week. I believe the liner is the same as the U+. The problem I've found with the liner is in the heel area. It is beginning to "ball" or "pilling" if you can picture what I mean, like a 50/50 blend t-shirt might. Not drastically, but noticeably. He's on them a lot, but he has only had them for less than 6 months. Not a big deal in a kid who will grow out of them, would be a concern if they were mine.

Normally I could care less what my skates look like, but those are ridiculously awesome, I want them!

Got it,

thanks JR !

Or just right click and select "view image in new tab/window," then use that url (since it'll be just the image, not a whole web page). For example:

thanks buddy, I appreciate your advice

Np! Out of curiosity, what kind of options were there for custom CLs? Obviously quarter sizes and a wide range of widths for the ankle and forefoot, but can you do things like double stitching, extra foam around the ankles, different liners, changing the volume through different sized quarters/moving eyelets, etc. And how did you find the whole custom skate process in general, did the rep spend a long time with you making sure you got the perfect skate, or was it rushed?

I know this isn't directed right at me, but I just ordered some custom CLs the other day. It was my first pair of custom skates ever so I wasn't sure really what to expect. You can do pretty much everything you mentioned, I got quarter sizes, different color, top 3 eyelets reinforced, vent holes in the bottom, a white felt tongue, and some extra ankle padding. Unfortunately the guy helping me try them on wasn't too knowledgeable with all of the custom features-but his manager was. I'm a little disappointed he couldn't of helped me out because he would have made note to me all of the available options. However, I am really happy with the options I went with but it really all depends on who you are working with to customize the skates. For only an additional $100 I think I got a great bang for my buck. Can't wait for them to arrive and give them a shot.

unfortunately there is nothing I could say about customization since my skates are retail ones with replaced bottom part, so hope the reply of poster above will be helpful in some aspects.

Are tuuks an option through custom order with CCM? Thanks.

how is the weight different with the Tuuk and fusion? I am still debating whether to get the x60's, one100's or these.

seems that I wrote of that above, the current CCM's set weighs 820 gr., when my X50's are 840 gr., a size is 7.5D

do they offer different liners?

TUUKS aren't available for an option as it is owned by Bauer. If you want TUUKS it would be best to just order the boot, and then get your LHS to install the skates with TUUKS. Fortunately for me, my LHS is hardly charging me anything to get this done. And for the liners, I'm not to sure if you can get different ones, I would assume you'd be able to. Just out of curiousity why would you want a different liner?

Ok... Got my Custom U+ CL's last week and am getting used to them. Looks like I'll be skating barefoot in these as for whatever reason they cause the Nike Dryfit socks I wear to rub like sandpaper on the skin behind my ankles. Probably due to the full contact of the padding around the ankle. I am also getting the pressure\pain in the arch and outside edge of my foot (but I have always had this with new skates) looks like swapping the stock insoles for shock doctors will fix this. I'll know tonight after my daughters practice.

Now here's my question - my E Pro holders are size 304mm ???... looking to give step steel to try....Hockey Monkey has 296 and 306... So I go to Step's website and check the sizing they have available..... 296 and 306.... Help me out here as I'm new to the E Pro's (last CCM holder I had was the Pro Lite 3 that was later swapped out for the Tuuk LS) is this the same as when Tuuk had holders marked 296\300 that took the same runner? Also I see that Step has a note that the blades have a "pitch corrected profile"? I have found that I LIKE the pitch on the stock E Pros and don't really want to change it. The sketch resembles the profile of the stock runners, are they the same?

CCM is usually 1-2 mm different from Bauer...they have 304, not 306. HM just threw the numbers up, whatever you order for them in Step will be the right size.

Thanks guys.... Didn't see the link to the pdf sizing chart on Step's site. Once I downloaded that they do show the CCM as 304 holder....

Like I said, I can remember - and still have some of them somewhere - TUUK's sized, 290, 296, 300, and 306.... But then again, I've used TUUK's going back into the 1970's so I've seen a few changes over the years.

bumping up an old thread

I picked up a pair of the the CL's had them molded in the store, i skated on them this AM and eveything is almost perfect minus my right foot heel lock isn't there.

i can feel my heel slide up a bit enough to bug me, i had to crank the laces pretty tight on the top 2-3 eyelets to stop the lift but then it was so tight it was hurting the inside of my arch.. Left foot everything is locked in solid.

Thinking i will skate on them for my game on Monday and if they are still lifting i will take them back to the shop to have them rebaked right foot only.

I had the same problem, once i went back to the shop and told them which ankle they heated them up and formed it around the ankle and it is money now. These are my favorite skates
