splayerc12 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2010 got a ticket for underage possession of alcohol on a new york state campground the other day. the officer who gave the tickets out said since we were from out of state all we need to do is mail it in and pay the fine, and there will be no record. he said the fine will be minor also and that we weren't causing any problems just that we couldn't have the alcohol.does anybody know anything about this. is it a big deal? i should add that it wasn't a misdemeanor it is just marked as traffic infraction even though we weren't driving and i didn't even have a car up there

Usually that's a misdeameanor and a bit of a dilemna. A few friends of mine have had MIP's and got some pretty big fines and were required to take awareness classes and/or attend AA meetings. You must of had a really cool cop

Here all they get is a $250 fine.
ndlancer95 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2010 You guys actualy arrest people in the states for under age possession of alcohol? Do they get a criminal record and everything? Here all they get is a $250 fine.It all depends on Tyne age and amount of alcohol around here. One of my friends (20) got arrested, a record, and a 2 night stay in the police station cell . Then again it was his 2nd time getting arrested for underage drinking

Here all they get is a $250 fine.Canada has it right when it comes to alcohol laws IMO. Is it really a big deal if an 18 year old drinks? I mean come on, as long as they are not driving drunk then what's the big deal? Im 18 in the States, I can serve my country if I chose to, and yet I get a criminal record for having a beer?Im just glad the OP didnt get into that bad of trouble, its proposterous that most kids (even 20 year olds) get criminal charges for drinking. It all depends on Tyne age and amount of alcohol around here. One of my friends (20) got arrested, a record, and a 2 night stay in the police station cell . Then again it was his 2nd time getting arrested for underage drinkingSame thing happened to my friend, two weeks shy of his 21st birthday..This was his first and only MIC keep in mind...He was in the car with his friend and his friends mom, when they ran out of gas. Well my friend goes to push the car, cop sees him and breathalizes him, (he had 2 beers btw) and gets busted with an MIC and is arrested in front of his friend and his friends mom. Well he spends the night in jail, and by the time of his next court date he is 21, and they still stick him with a fine and community service.
lampliter87 8 Report post Posted June 30, 2010 When you pay for it, call in to the number on the ticket saying you want to pay by credit card. Good chance it won't even be in the system until you actually mail it in and you'll get off.

Good chance it won't even be in the system until you actually mail it in and you'll get off. He's all set. Talked to him (OP) today and he's just going to pay the fine. There are no license points involved, so no reason he'll be in the system. But just for the heck of it, take a look at this site. http://www.1888drugcrimes.com/articles/tic...ding-ticket.htmIt works for all tickets with points, not just speeding
lampliter87 8 Report post Posted June 30, 2010 I got a speeding ticket playing juniors this year, called to pay by card, and the receptionist said she had nothing on record. Officer must not have turned the ticket in and I never had to pay the $155 fine.

It essentially says to ignore any sort of advice to overpay as a method of weaseling out of points/fines and to man-up.Doing "harmless" things like speeding and underage drinking are calculated risks. They are illegal but you're banking on not getting caught. If you do get caught man-up and accept the consequences.Doing something that you KNOW for a fact is illegal and then whining when you get nailed for it is what children do. I couldn't find anyminformation on the overpaying method. But, if you overpay the cops, no points appear until you cash the return check.

raganblink 82 Report post Posted June 30, 2010 This is a cool cop to you guys? Wow you'd probably think the ones me and my buds run into are messiahs. I don't know how we do it but we never really get in trouble. 52 in a 25? Becomes a 30 in a 25. 40 in a 25? A Verbal warning. MIP? drain the bottle in front of him, walk away. And about a month ago my friend was driving home drunk and high off his ass (on probation from earlier incident of GTA and a bunch of other stuff) and he admits what he's been doing to the cop; instead of being incredibly screwed, the cop drove him back to the party. That's pretty unlucky splayerc, how old are you? Once I turned 19 cops didn't really care that much as to opposed when I was younger. If you're over 18 then that cop is kinda a dick imo. team50 20 Report post Posted June 30, 2010 This ticket is equal thereabouts to a parking ticket. Pay it and be done. The only time it will hurt you possibly is if alcohol becomes a real issue for you that contributes to more serious behaviour. This will be the first documented police contact to show a pattern of behaviour that has escalated and for which people do little to change for the most part. In other words you don't want to get a reputation with the police for this behaviour.

You're friend that's on probation is driving drunk and high and the cop just lets him go because he was honnest? Either it's bullshit or that cop deserves to be suspended for letting a asshat drink/drugged driver go. That guy was endangering the lives of others on his path which the police officer probably has just encourged your friend to do even more often because he got away with it. Your friend's a dumbass for acting that way and the officer is even worse for letting it go.
