New Easton curves all messed up?

Recommended Posts

Mods, please feel free to delete or move this if necessary, but I searched and didn't see anything similar.

Went by Total Hockey today just to browse around. The new Easton S14 caught my eye, mainly because it states it has an "elliptical taper", but does not at all. I picked up an S19 that said "Iginla 100" on it to see if it was the new Iginla curve and to my surprise, it was the Zetterberg curve and blade profile. Brushing this off as merely a mismarked stick, I moved on to look at the S15 OPS. I picked up two Iginlas there and although both had the Iginla blade profile, they were both the Zetterberg curve. I showed this to the store employees and questioned it and even they commented that every Iginla S15 they had was an Iginla-shaped blade with the Zetterberg curve. Absolutely identical. Not quite finished, I also found that the Chara curves on the ST sticks were actually Gaboriks. Well, slightly modified profile-wise. It was the Gaborik without the little pointy underside of the toe, but the curve was identical (and unmistakable if you've ever seen an Yzerman/Gaborik). And all of the Charas were like this as well.

What's up with this? Simply a TON of mismarked sticks or is Easton in the middle of changing all of their curves/names around? Believe me, if someone told me any of this and I hadn't seen it for myself, I'd be asking them if they were high. But I managed a hockey shop for several years and have been an Easton fanatic for the past decade. I tend to know more than the Total Hockey employees about their equipment and even they were stunned.

Well for curves they have to be mismarked.

However, IIRC the chara is the same as the gaborik (or healtey?) hell i can't remember, but one is squared and one is round toed.

for next season atleast Hall will be Sakic and Parise will be Drury.

On the s14 its a SMU for TH, its probably an ST shaft with the Easton stealth look.

The shaft felt fairly light. Not S19 or X60 light, but very good for a moderate stick. Just quite a bit blade heavy. For $150 or whatever they want for it, not a bad stick.

Chara is the new Gaborik. Just confirmed it at another location with STs as well.

Saw an ST and an S19 at the local Play it Again today with the Chara curve. Definitely an Yzerman/Gaborik curve, because I threw up when I looked at it.

That is good news to me :).

so did TH SMU some sticks under the Chara name with the gabby pattern or is this a standard offering from easton? i was under the impression P10 was going to be a slightly modified P9.

The "Gaborik-style" Charas were also at another retailer, so I'd say that's how it is.

I think there was another thread about this and I stated that the Chara and Gaborik are the same. The actual Gaborik(with his name) is only available on the SE6's.
