MLX Skates Now Available

For those who placed an order in this week, have you had a shipping status update yet? If so, how long did the process take. I placed an order yesterdat and chose Next Day, and am hoping they ship the item today before the local pick-up time, as I am hoping to have them in by Friday.

I have contacted both email addresses on their website, and have not received a reply...

No update for me yet, and they havent responded to the email I sent at 8am yesterday either. Hopefully the skates go out today. It'd be just my luck that this is the week they're all on vacation though.

As I said earlier, I'm not expecting an update on mine until the 1st. However, in your cases, it's possible that they've shipped them and haven't updated the info yet. On the other hand, it's possible they all took a vacation this week. I dunno what's up. Hopefully it all works out for you guys.

Ya I tried the youtube50 code and it applied the 50% discount to the order. So there are 3 usable codes to choose from instead of using the 15% off code

I was just on their youtube site and it got taken down. I wonder how long this will last now?

Ya I just checked it out. Looks like the Video Description has changed. Funny how I'm still waiting for confirmation of my shipping order though....seeing it "Ships Today"

Nor do I. All the more reason to return them immediately if they don't work out for me. In which case, it's off to find more S15's.

Just got an email back from customer service. They would've recommended I go with a size 9 and also gave me my tracking number. My skates shipped today and according to FedEx will be here tomorrow by 10:30 am. Needless to say I'm super pumped.

Awesome, glad to hear it. When and where are you skating on Saturday? I'll be at OV at 8pm for the UW game so if you're in the area I'll come by and check out the skates.

Got the skates in today. Will be heat molding them later this evening. In the meantime, the inital fit is TIGHT of course, but a lot more narrow than I anticipated, as it was difficult to slide my foot in. Pretty excited about baking them. I'm thinking about grabbing some waxed laces before I bake them.

They look pretty clean and all accessories were in the box.

For those who baked their skates already, did the eyelet rows open up as well with the boot?

EDIT: also noticed on one of the runners there are a group of 5 semi-indented dots on the side-centre of it. and they are really small, so don't know what caused that...

I'll let you know in a few hours. I just got mine a few minutes ago and I'm warming up the oven right now. I see what they mean in the article where they said you almost have to slide your foot in sideways. The boot is really narrow and tight, so it'll be interesting to see how it opens up for me. Luckily the length feels good on both skates. The depth of the boot seems really shallow though.. or maybe I just have a really big instep.

that'd be great to hear once you go through the process then.

For the oven setting, I can choose from a bit, but the ones that come to mind are Top Heat, Bottom Heat, or Top AND bottom heat. I;m guessing to do the top and bottom one ....

@Hattrick...my feet are quite different lengthwise like yours...do you bake them with the toe plug or without...insoles in or out...will be interesting with your extra mms...

@puckhoggy...I don't know if baking with waxed laces would be that good...I always change to waxed after the heating/cooling process...you don't have to tighten them to strong anyways and wax probably dips or greases...what maybe would ruin at least your laces...

I've got them sitting on my feet right now. It really is incredible how soft these get after coming out of the oven. They're like a pair of tennis shoes. Out of the box they were so narrow I couldn't even get the tongue to tuck under the eyelets to lace them up. They were rubbing on my forefoot bone on my left foot as well, but other than that felt OK. The rubbing on that bone is what caused me to stop using my Reebok's, so I'll see how it feels when they cool down all the way. Right now though, they feel really good. I've got them laced all the way up and I'm not noticing any hot spots. My feet slipped right in and the tongue layed down with no problems. If the rubbing on my bone is still there after cooling down, I'll take a heatgun to it and see how that works.

I chose not to use the toe plugs. Because of the way they fit out of the box it was hard for me to get my foot in and judge what toe plug I'd need for my right foot. My left foot is just brushing the toe cap and my right has a little wiggle room. I'll start with the small one and go from there. As far as baking with the toe caps, I'm pretty sure you bake the skates without and put them in during the molding process. I left the stock insoles in my skates during baking. They're pretty good quality, but I might try them with my custom Superfeet.

OK so the skates are cooled down and all stiffened back up. They feel pretty incredible on my feet. Luckily the length is perfect for me. My left toe is just brushing the toe cap as I'm standing up. I used the 3mm insert on the right skate and it feels nice. Any rubbing on my forefoot on the left skate is gone. You can run your fingers along the inside of the skate and feel the dips where it molded to the bumps on your foot. The heel lock is awesome too. My Bauers and Reeboks were good, but there's no slop whatsoever inside the boot. I'm also really liking the tendon guard and how flexible it is. I can extend my ankle all the way and not even notice it there. The tongue also reacts to the heat. It was really thick out of the box, but it molded to the laces after coming out of the oven and tucked right down.

The videos on YouTube said you can skate a few hours after baking them, so I've walked around the house a bit and they feel great. No foot pain anywhere, even with the laces cranked down tight. If there was any ice open tonight I would get them sharpened and use them, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow night. I'm pretty excited to see how they feel on the ice.

Sure, here's a couple. (click them)

Skate

Heel 1

Heel 2

Tongue

Liner

Insole 1

Insole 2

You can see the imperfections on the heel where the carbon was sandwhiched together. Might be a big deal to some people, but I don't care as long as it performs well. The picture of the tongue shows how it molded to the laces at the top. You can feel that there's a thick insert in it which is stiff when cool, but it softens up with the heat. The insole is pretty thick and squishy. It feels nice on your feet. I held it up next to my custom Superfeet to show the arch shape and what not.

If you guys want to see anything else let me know and I can try and get a pic up.

i normally lace my laces on the skates inside-outside. Any of you guys who normally do the same lacing going to try the MLX suggestion of ouside-inside lacing?

I'm wondering if i should do this during the baking process or keep it to the way I normally have it.

@ HattrickSwayze - thx for the pics. Did you find that your heel moved back when you heated the skate? I only ask because according to the MLX size chart I am a size 8, but when I initally placed my foot in, it felt I would have troubles in the length department...

I plan on just lacing them up normally, regardless of their suggestion. I get more hold with inside-outside.

As far as the skate expanding, it will stretch a little to give you more room. Also, you shouldn't base how this skate is going to fit upon the first time you tried them on before you bake them. That's one of the more important things about these skates. You can't gauge how well they will fit you until after you bake them. Sounds weird and almost contradictory to what we've all been taught about skates and skate fitting, but that's what they've said about these skates.

I did inside-out lacing as well.

As far as the length goes, I might've gained a little bit when I baked them. It's hard to tell because out of the box I couldn't lace them up all the way, so my foot wasn't held in place when I'd stand up. Like Krev said, definitely don't judge them on the unbaked fit though. They felt entirely different once I heated them up. If I was in a store and went off the original fit, I wouldn't have looked twice at them. After molding them it's a totally different story.
