Getzlaf hit was pretty clean, he left the ice but it looked to me like that was post-contact. Hamhuis hit the boards awkwardly but it doesn't look like Getzlaf is at fault there, more of a freak play, he hit him while he was turning and that momentum knocked his head into the boards. Shoulder to shoulder contact, had the puck, didn't leave his feet until after contact.

Also looks like it's dead between the numbers. There's no need for guys to finish their hits the way they do now. Players used to just rub the guy out along the boards and keep skating back into the play. Now many of them do their best to put as much energy into the hit as they can.

That game was just plain ridiculous. It reminded me of my high school hockey games and even some of the games I've played in the ACHA. It was interesting to watch though.

Gillies will probably get 5-7. He only had 1:30 ish of ice time.

Haley will get 2-4. Martin will get 3-5 for his attempted suckerpunch of Talbot.

I just watched the replay on FSP and the Pens kept up with the cheap shots after the initial free for all. On the shift where Tangradi got run from behind, all three Pens forwards put a questionable hit on someone. Orpik could have gotten a couple more penalties with his runs on guys in the last couple minutes as well.

There isn't much they could do. There were guys on both sides (to some extent) stoking the fires on every shift. The only way that stuff was going to stop was having the clock run out or one team not having enough players to continue.

The Pens came as close I can remember ever seeing in a pro game.....They had what, 2 subs left at the buzzer? Looking at the penalty listing on NHL.com I see Fleury serving Johnson's' fighting major? Didn't think a keeper was permitted to serve any????

True, but the blatant attack on tablot? and tangradi? in third was what set the whole gongshow into motion.

if martin doesn't do what he did, nothing beyond that happens... if whoever ran tangradi in third didn't do that, rest of third doesn't happen.

not saying pens didn't do anything (they definitely hit latter than they needed to, plus made okposo look like shit... i know this kid and he was the victim of a gonger... he definitely doesn't want to be one), but it seems the isles were more of the fault of everything... can't take the fact that dipietro got hurt, so they have to take it out on pens, and talbot's hit wasn't dirty... not his fault guy he hit got injured. it was body to body.

Think the whole Penguins bench laughing after DiPietro got 1-punched last game didn't have something to do with any of it? No excuse for what went on, but what did anybody expect to happen after that?

They didn't know he was injured... any team would be smiling when your backup goalie gets in a scrap and one punch beats someone. Hell any one punch has whole bench smiling.
