Breaking in new gloves

Recommended Posts

I just had my Eagle X90's repalmed with MSH2.....they seem really stiff the palms? I was so used to my old palms that were worked in...Anyone know how I can work the palm in a bit? I realize playing is the best answer, but I can only get out once every couple weeks now! Water? Any ideas? Thanks guys and gals, in advance!

Cheers!

I know people who will soak gloves in water then move the fingers for about a minute then let them dry...usually does the trick for them. I however have never tried that.

I don't know anyone that has done that in close to 20 years. The last thing you want to do is soak water into the padding and tap water will dry out the palms a bit.

I would bake them in a skate oven.

Best answer right there. You can also heat your home oven (150-200F), then turn it off and put the gloves in on a towel for 5-10 minutes. Then put them on until they cool.

forgot and Left my fairly new gloves outside the other night overnight and they got a lil damp from the rain but werent soaked. Put them in the clothes dryer for about 20 minutes or so. Came out nice and warm. Worked for me, but i wouldnt have put an old smelly pair in there.

I honestly didn't realize hockey gloves needed to be broken in... they seem plenty flexible from the beginning.

My leather Eagles took a freaking while to break in. Never had a problem with nylon gloves tho

Best way ive found that acts in the way the oven does is to blow dry the insides and out then put ur hands in and wiggles ur fingers for a few minutes and just repeat that a few times till they feel soft.

Oh nuts, would it leave a terrible smell? Cause I foolishly tried to dry a pair of really old One 90 gloves. The smell was there for at least a week. I just went about hoping my parents would figure out what the smell was from. Maybe it's a good thing they didn't know..

Guess that must be it... my gloves were cheap Bauer X:30s I think. Don't really have a need for anything more than that at my level.

Had to pick up a new pair of RBK 6Ks this weekend for my 7 year old. I was surprised at how quickly he took to them and there was no real break in period needed. After a few minutes in them he had more finger control which increased his grip on his stick.

hmmmm.. most gloves these days dont need much break in time... except some of the old all leather ccm pros.. but with the materials these days, it is more the individual getting used to the new gloves, than actually breaking in the gloves...

I've heard Eagle bakes their gloves in the factory. Haven't used a pair in years. Been using Jofa/RBK gloves for a few years and they pretty much come broken in too.
