Bauer Total One Shaft/ Ak27 Shaft (INT)?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have either of these shafts in the Intermediate size? I was wondering how the flexes play between them. I want one of the two but don't want to get a rubber band for a shaft (my 2010 ST OPS is perfect flex wise). Any help?

I find the new ak27 shafts to have a lot of whip to them. I have a 2010 ak27 shaft in 85 flex and the new model 85 flex feels closer to a 75. I can't say for the T1 shaft but I know the T1 OPS sticks seem to have a stiffer flex compared to the one95's which were known to be softer than the marked flexes. IDK if this also translates to shafts though.

I have the totalone and it is whippier than my other sticks but I haven't cut it yet and it still kicks better than any other stick I have owned (s17, 10k, x60). I haven't used the ak so therefore I can't say anything about it's shaft flex. And my T1 is an intermediate.

My TO Int shaft, cut to 70 flex, was extremely whippy, 2 games in, took a snap shot and it snapped, on its way back to Bauer. I found it to be a wet noodle.

I asked the Bauer rep for a SR 77 flex, he said they would do it if the 77 is in stock. Despite the 77 turning into a 100 flex when it is cut, I didn't want to go back to the 67 flex.

I wish they made the 77-80 flex at Int length.

I am thinking about getting the AK27 Int shaft. It comes with 2 flexes: 55 and 70.

The shaft is 48", so I will probably remove the end plug (and maybe cut another inch), bringing to 44-45".

The resulting flexes will be approximately:

55 --> 69

70 --> 84

I read that a good way to determine the optimal flex is to divide your weight by half.

For me it would be 140/2 = 70.

My description:

Height: 5'5"

weight: 140

Build: Muscular, strong for my size

I have a good wrist shot (can get some zip on it, but not always accurate) and my technique should be decent.

I am a forward so mainly take wrist/snap shots.

I am however using a senior 85 flex zbubble cut down to 43" (shaft length), so the actual flex is probably well above 100. Needless to say, my stick doesn't bend much on my shots.

I am glad to learn about Int size sticks and the much lower flexes.

Some people here said that the AK27 is pretty whippy so I was wondering if I should go with the 55 or 70 flex

Thanks a lot for you help!

Not true at all. If that was the case I'd be using 110's.........It's wht you feel comfortable with

@ bostonjuniorblackhawks thanks for the tip.

I ended up getting the 55 flex Int and absolutely loved the stick. I have much better control over my wrist and snap shots now (and it seems faster too).

I had this shaft (+ wooden blade) for about 2-3 months. I played in a few games and pickup and open ice sessions.

I am not hard/rough on the stick at all. Hardly ever practice or take slappers (in game).

I do play center, so I take a lot of face offs, lots of stick checks.

Last night, the shaft broke near the blade.

I have no idea how it happened. Could've been from a face off or someone wacked at it.

I typically don't break sticks and was disappointed at how this "new" stick broke already.

My question for all, does the Int and low flex make the stick less durable?

Or was it just bad luck/defect ?

I love the stick but I am hesitant to get it (at least the same flex 55) if durability is an issue.

Thanks all!

Id say its from faceoffs. I chip blades away every 3 weeks or so, and break the occasional shaft here and there (usually 2 inches up from the blade.) When im on the wing, I can get 2-3 months out of a composite blade.

Well actually, that is a good tip to follow if you have absolutely no idea what flex to use. It obviously cannot work for everyone, but for beginners; it should be a good plan to start moving up or down from

85 is usually a good place to start with. Why start someone with a higher flex rather than in the middle to see where they are at? If I was a beginner, I would have wasted my money on a 110 flex.

Hmm I see what you're getting at but tbh, if I see a customer looking for his/her first stick, a quick once over for height/weight should be obvious. No way I'm giving Michelin Man a 75 flex... even if it was an ST

If you used the weight divided by 2 rule on the Michelin man, you probably wouldn't be able to find that flex for him on a retail stick

I take that as a challenge, it's on. I'll let you know when it happens.

I just broke my AK27 70 flex int. I know flex is not a determining factor in durability but shaft dimensions are. So, do you guys have durability problems with int shafts?

On a side note there was a crunching sound whenever the shaft was flex for the first (after sitting around) then it would go away. I thought it was something with the glue but obvious it wasn't. Does this offer any clues to how/why it broke?

Thanks

As mentioned above, I broke my AK 27 (55 flex) Int after 3 months of frequent but not "hard" usage.

I do take faceoffs and stick check a bit.

Many sources and opinions believe that Int aren't as durable as Sr, but there isn't really any data to back it up.

I took a chance and bought another Int, this time the 70 flex Dolomite.

I've used it in 3 games so far but will keep you posted if I get luckier with this one.

I didn't think to mention this before, but I had an 4.5" extension in it. So, it you are considering buying this shaft, I think it would be durable if used at regular length or cut down. I don't know if the extra leverage cause it to break or whether it was defective.

I ended up grabbing an AK27 70 flex over the weekend and it actually was a bit stiffer than most intermediates, which is what I prefer. Uncut but might end up cutting an inch. Seems fairly true to flex. Do they break in at all?

Bringing this thread back to see how the two compare and to throw in the easton standard shafts as well. I'd like some feed back how they flex compared to each other and to tapered ops as far as stiffness goes. Is there any truth to bauer blades/shafts not fitting as well with other companies gear?

I will say the AK27 70 flex is stiffer than rated and definitely a mid kick stick. I have a 70 flex Dolomite which feels completely different; much whippier and kick point feels lower down the shaft (although not as low as some one piece sticks). Trajectory of the shot tells me that more than anything. The other annoying bit about the AK27 is that it's a fairly light shaft and doesn't balance well with anything other than a high end blade (wood is out). I won't keep it but it's probably because I never use slappers in game and always use wrist/snap shots, which feel better with low kick OPS.

Of the two blades I used, the Warrior Bandito fit perfect with no movement. A Montreal M95 blade needed a bit of sanding to fit.
