Total One Skates-Durability Issues

Recommended Posts

Sounds like they'll try to take care of you. And they can't really make a decision without looking at the skates. At least you've still got good skates to use in the meantime.

Still it's a joke. Why can't a Bauer rep come down to the dealer where I got them from and examine them? I know I have old one95s available, but they are slightly too small and the blades are totally worn down, they are my odr skates. I can't really do without my t1s them for a week, and I'm pretty sure that "week" will be more like two weeks. I'm playing pretty much every day and going out of town pretty soon, so it's a big loss having to fit into some skates that are too small and don't have any steel left. I know that they have to see them, but I sent them good pictures of all of my problems. It just seems really dumb for me to have to send my hockey skates into them, what do they think I'm going to use in the meantime?

Oh and turns out I have another problem with my skate. Check out this pic of my tendon guard. THIS IS JUST RIDICULOUS! And also, take a look at how bad the material is coming off near the holder...it's total bull ****. I'm so pissed off. I DON'T ABUSE MY SKATES! MY DAD SPENT $900 ON THESE THE LEAST I COULD DO IS TAKE CARE OF THEM, BUT LOOK WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO THEMSELVES!

I saw the same kind of wear on X60's inner liner.

In the mean time, the (traditional) liner on the TO is supposed to be much better than the Hydra Max (=biodegradable).

EDIT : I checked, I thought it was clarino (what I call traditional) in the TO but it's not. Don't know what it really is, but I rarely (actually never) saw non-leather inner liner to be durable. Even good synthetic leather is durable.

Holy smokes. In the 2nd pic, I would say Bauer will definitely have to take care of your situation. The bottom of the boot peeling off? Never, have I seen that before. Perhaps they will hook you up with a stiffer stronger boot like the pros. How much do you weigh? Seems like that particular pair can't handle 5 skates per week at your weight. Hope everything works out for you, and that your skates were just a lemon, cause I really want to try some out. Try not to get too frustrated, I know/we all know how you feel when it comes to equipment crapping out.

Bauer XXXX and X60 were/are a good load of crap too, bauer is going down regarding the quality of their skates. Their current skates are designed to last a season.

The one90/95 were the last durable tops of the line.

I see more and more people going for ccm and rbk at least their high end skates are still made in

My X:60s are made in Canada, and so were my XXXX, where do you buy Skates from? lol

Talked to Bauer recently about my problems with the skate. They are informing me to go through my retailer to send the skate directly back to them so they can take a look at it. This sucks for me though because I'm in the middle of hockey season and I can't really afford to send the skate it. Apparently I'll only be without it for a week though, who knows what they are going to do when they take a closer look at the skate...if I want this process to move forward I guess I'm going to have to use my one95s temporarily.

lol you make it sound like switching back to One95 is such a downgrade

So you're expecting a rep, who most likely lives hours away who has his own life dealing with a hundred different clients, who some might have warranty issues of their own to come to your lhs and inspect the skates, and then issue a new pair (which might not be available locally)? Sorry to be frank but you need to step back, get un emotional and realize that simply is not possible in anyway shape or form. That rep quite frankly has better things to do then drive around his territory inspecting warranty items. Also the cost for all of that time and gas would be astronomically high, so high that it would force prices on all goods to go up or force the company to close.

You must be lucky, because unless I am seeing things, the two pairs of One100's and two pairs of Totalones I tried on, all had boxes that said MADE IN THAILAND. And if by chance I am seeing things, they were probably made in CHINA where their retail gloves a made. However I believe the boxes also say ENGINEERED IN CANADA. I do know for sure that Pro stock Bauer skates are made in Quebec Canada.

I know I haven't seen it either. I look at the other skate and ask myself how could this even happen? It's glued/put together pretty strongly so how would this happen and get to be this bad? Funny thing is I only weigh 150 lbs...I don't know why these skates can't handle 5 times a week, they're the most expensive skates on the market.

Yes I understand, but how do they expect me to send them in during the middle of the season? And when I send them in, what do they expect me to use in the mean time? Drop another $500 on a lower end Bauer skate to use for two weeks? Because my one95s truly aren't worthy for wearing in games.

What raganblink said. If Bauer spent the money to give that kind of service, they couldn't sell any skates, at the prices they'd have to charge.

The hard fact is that you bought a product with a warranty. You know that the warranty is there because no product is perfect. Some will have problems, and it's currently your turn. You didn't pay enough for skates to have a rep come out immediately to you with a replacement pair of skates. For that matter, no one would (and few could). You're stuck with the normal procedures. And I agree with what others have told you, here and on IW, that it sounds like you're getting very fast service.

I, too, understand your frustration, but this is how it works, and if you'd looked into the details of warranty claims before you bought the skates, I'm sure they would have told you. Those procedures are effectively part of the contract you had for purchase of the skates, and those are the rights you have, though you (and anyone) would prefer to have more.

Hell, at least your getting new skates. in a week. Your one95s arnt worthy of a game! are you playing the olympics. jesus.

They never said to me I was getting new skates, all they said was that they'd inspect them and I'd have "my" skates back in a week. I have a good feeling that it will be longer than a week though. And I didn't mean to say it like that, the one95s are amazing but they are a size too small for me...

1. Stop crying about mid-season. Seriously. This isn't life or death. If it's your livelihood we're talking about, then you should have ample gear or access to such so this is never a public issue.

2. It's been said before, and I'll say it again. Manufacturer reps serve the LHS or other stores, with the occasional interaction with customers, but only usually at a product-sponsored event. You are the store's customer and the store is Bauer's customer. There's a chain of command, you have an opportunity to use it, so do it properly.

3. You haven't been victimized. You haven't been purposefully selected to experience equipment failure. The world will not end if you're without some of your 1st-string gear for a week (or maybe more). I suppose this is a recreational league, maybe it's more competitive. But if you're telling us that switching skates to the 95's is going to affect you that much, then you aren't as skilled as you think you are.

4. Your dad spent the money on the skates. I don't know if he's "enraged" as you, but check the prima-donna attitude and man up. It's ok to be disappointed that a product failed, even seek suggestions and advice. Frankly, you're acting like a spoiled brat. You need to either iron the pleats on your skirt before you go out again or lace 'em up and just play.

I hope you get your issue(s) resolved.

I don't mean to sound like a "spoiled brat" or anything like that, I'm calm about this, I'm new to this warranty stuff so I just have questions about how everything works is that OK? I am not trying to sound like the 95s are going to affect me lots, I will wear them for the week or two I need too.

You did notice his name, right? That could be a kilt. I'll be watching from the heather to see if you get invited to meet on the moor at dawn, with claymores.

Seriously man, I had to send back my 3 day old skates for inspection before I was guaranteed anything at all would be done. It sucks, I was without skates I just bought for a week, and I missed hockey because of it, but that's part of the process. Just go through the process and give them a chance. Granted, we are the customer, and this stuff isn't cheap, but we can't just expect them to drop everything they are doing to make us happy.

Quite frankly I'm a bit confused that the degree of wear in the pics that you're showing seems to be accelerating daily! Not implying that you are peelling the outsole yourself (which can actually be done - there's a fairly thin layer/film applied to the composite that is only cosmetic & if it starts ungluing can be removed fairly easily) or tore the tendon guard while removing the skates but it's just looks strange.

Re warranty: technically the warranty period is over, and from experience these signs of wear & tear wouldnt just appear in the fourth months - they'd be gradually showing so not sure why you didnt pick up on that?

Re sizing: your feet are probably growing (are you 19?) so I'm still leaning towards my theory that you bought the skates with some room to grow, and you based the size on your old pair of One95 (that you now outgrew) causing you to miss by half a size. This is what causes the issues.

Having all that said (and realizing that this is not what you'd obviously like to hear) Bauer is a good company & takes care of their customers. Normally your LHS would inspect the skates, takes pics as needed & negotiates with the rep on the possibility of replacement under warranty. When I went through the process I wasn't asked to ship my skates anywhere so I'm not sure why it'd be your case, but if it is then the process will most likely take more than a week depending of course where they're sending the skates.

So what I'm really trying to say is that in a normal course of events warranty claims for Bauer is a fairly straight forward process: go to the store, show the problem, wait some time (days to weeks) for a confirmation/decision then get the replacement. Either way it goes you're never out of skates since while you're waiting youre skating in your old skates.

The only thing that seems to be getting worse is the the stuff on the outsole. As you saw in the first set of pics and the recent pic, it has spread a lot and feels like it's going to spread even more as it feels really flimsy and it's not holding on too great. I am mainly concerned about the pic that I released last night. As someone else said it is probably from a skate, but it just totally got destroyed. I don't know how someone's skate could have even gotten in there without cutting my foot. The boot cut happened within the first two weeks I got the skates, I send a pic in to Bauer and they said that skate cuts are not covered by warranty. Fair enough, but the boot shouldn't be deformed like that. As weeks passed I started to notice more problems with my skates-the inside liner was ripping which I wasn't too concerned at the time because it wasn't very bad. But not too long ago when I was changing my inserts in my tongue I noticed the small hole in the tongue. I was a little bit concerned by then so I decided to look closely at the skate to see if there were any other issues. I saw the outer liner beginning to split and also the small issue with my tendon guard. The tendon guard issue seemed the most surprising to me because I do not use the tendon guard to remove my skates. I'm really confused how that happened. My feet are still growing as I am only 15 years old. These skates are only half a size bigger than my one95s and they fit snug. I took the sole out of the skate to make sure that these skates weren't too big, but my toes fit in nice and snug. I just talked to the owner of my LHS and she said I will have to send them in but she is kind enough to lend me a used pair of skates while my skates are getting inspected.

Here is a way to work out your problem...this is what a LHS did for me, when my son had a problem with a pair of X:60s last year mid-season:

As in your case, the store said that the skates had to go back to Bauer, and it was mid-season..so they offered to front my son a new pair of skates, and once resolved they would:

1) charge me nothing if Bauer was replacing them (and they wuld just keep the new pair from Bauer

2) charge me the difference between their cost and the used sale value of the old skates..if Bauer fixed them

3) If Bauer wasn't going to do anything, i agreed to buy the skates at their cost

The store stood behind the customer and bauer did also...in the end everything worked out fine.

The new pair of x60 skates i have are made in thailand.

I guess now when i purchase skates i will look at the production location.

His "Big Dilemma" as posted on IW's forum.

So I sent my Total Ones that were getting wrecked in last night, and I talked to a Bauer rep who said they should almost certain be replacing them with a new pair. However, I am really concerned with the durability of them and I do not want this to happen to the skates again, so I am considering either returning them to the store where purchased if they allow that or to sell them on ebay. I am considering going with some CCM U+ CLs and getting them custom. There's an additional $100 charge for customs still making them cheaper than what I paid for with my Total Ones. I am really considering this-they would fit better, I could add a few custom features such as reinforced eyelets, quarter sizing, color, etc...and I will still be saving. What do you think? I have been using Bauer skates for 8 years now, but these T1s have me second guessing. Should I go custom with CCM, or stick to my retail T1s? Also, is there a list of features that CCM offers on their custom skates that I could find online somewhere?

Not passing judgment just attempting to relay what he claims is going on.

I'm not sure how custom CCM can make their skates, but I can tell you that my arch is good in a TO, but in a CL I was dying. So, so high it was killing me.

So much fail in this thread I don't even know where to begin.

I'd love to see what the TOs look like on your feet.

Also, how do you get a sliced as well as cracked tendon guard? Only way I know how is to remove one skate with the other.

I can buy the skate cut on the side of the boot, I can buy the delamination of the film that is on the outsole. Wide shinguards would kill the sides of the inner eyelet.
