Whats up hockey nuts!! Im a newbie msh, so a quik bio: Im 30 yrs old and just recently got back into the game after a 13 year hiatis....i played some youth hockey growing up, but unfortunately after high school, real life kicked in and hockey fell to the waistside:(...anyways after some pond hockey a year ago...the dormant itch returned with a vengence, i gathered some gear, found some pickup games, and since been working on my game, joined a mens league this season, however in been having equipment issues lately with my skates....could use some advise

So heres the deal....apon returning to the sport, i found some used mission amp6 skates, they seemed good for the money, had them baked, seemed to fit ok, however they dont feel good at all, at first i thought theyd break in, or because of my lapse in play id need to get used to it, but unfortunately they havent...perhaps thetre to small?? in any event im looking for new skates....dont want to break the bank, but want a good performing skate....tried reebok, and ccm, nice skates, but felt wide in the heel, tried one60s felt better, the vapor x 30s felt even better, as did the easton s12s.....my question now lies between the x30s and th s12s.....cant seem to make up my mind, was hoping i could get some real feedback on both skates, pros and cons, ect

In my personal opinion if Bauers fit you well go with the Supreme 1/60's or the Vapor 30's. The 60's will be a slightly different fit because they are slightly wider. If that works for you then I'd go for it. If you don't need as wide a fit the Vapor 30's still offer a decent amount of width and a nice depth. Bauers also have the Tuuk holder and blade which most hockey players seem to prefer. The Easton S-12's are a nice skate as well and has a comfortable liner and felt tongue as well. It is a lot stiffer skate though and higher end so may not be the best skate to restart in until you get your game legs back. The boot is fairly wide as well, something Easton has improved in recent years. The Razor Blades holder and blade has worked well for me personally but I have heard complaints about the perforated steel blades cracking in the middle from a slap shot and also the holder cracking at the base by the rivets as well as rivets popping from the bottom of the boot.

Sounds like the same story I have.....I too had a long hiatius from hockey, 14yrs I believe? But am now back on the ice...Where you from? Go with the Vapor 30's in my opinion...they seem to be very easy to find. Good luck!

My suggestion is to be very critical of the fit and try them both on again. There are some differences in the way they fit and one should feel better than the other. Spend some time walking around in them, testing the forward flex by doing some knee bends and really see how they feel on your feet. If after 20 minutes in each skate you can't find a reason to go with one over the other, buy the prettier ones.

The Easton S-12's are a nice skate as well but the liner is fairly rough and they are very stiff. You may not like the preformed tongue as well. I know a lot of players have said they prefer the traditional felt tongue. The Tuuk holder on the Bauers are also the preferred holders for most players as well as they have proven to be very durable and the least troublesome.

The S12 has a pro style felt tongue.

Yes, I stand corrected. I was thinking about the S-11 tongue. My suggestion to stick to the Bauers still stands though.

The S12 also has different liner, no more rough S11 type liner. It's Bio-Dry microfiber now. As someone who wears the S12. I don't think the X30's stack up, it's a budget skate.

Obviously buy what fits the best, but if fit is similar I'd take the Easton. You'll get more skate for your money.

I have One 60s right now, I too got away from the game for 10 years, then got back into it full force. My old 7000s got ruined from leaving them in a Phoenix AZ garage for 3 summers, so I wanted to get something that held me over until I got my conditioning, hands, and timing back to play in some decent leagues. The One 60 fits pretty comfortably. My old Bauer supreme 7000s were a EE and were punched out. The retail D actually fit well enough, I was very surprised.( it is a little tight, but not a problem) The One 60 is very durable, my tuuks are all gashed up, and my toe boxes are pretty nicked up too, but the boot is holding up fine. I am 6'2" 240, so I am impressed on how well these have worked for under $200.00 USD. The only problem I have now is that they loosen up a bit, and I am used to leaning in hard on my skate boot walls in turns and such, these do not have enough stiffness for that, but they are also not a pro level boot. I am upgrading soon, but only because I need a skate that is as stiff in the side walls of the ankle as possible, due to my style of skating. I can not fit in any vapor skate, even in EE, so I have nothing to offer about them and I have never tried Easton. Get what feels good, I too used to buy skates that were only slightly uncomfortable in hopes I would get used to them; very bad idea. Get something that you will not mind having on your feet for hours, and something that has all the performance options you need. Bauer is a great skate in either the supreme, or vapor series from what I have seen.

The S12 is a much better skate as far as value goes. I dont know if you like a stiffer boot or not though. Ive heard some durability issues with the S12s if you're a big guy, but mine haven't had any issues so far. Really nice skate, not a lot of difference between the S12 and S17.

You are absolutely correct stick9. I've edited my original comments from this morning. I was thinking about the S-11 not the S-12. Must have still been asleep. My apologies to everyone on the board.

hey!! thanks for the feedback.........im prob gonna get the s12s overall they seem to fit good right off the shelf, the x 30s are close, but i feel a lil space in the heel, and tight in the toe, im sure a bake might even it out a bit, but the s12 feels like it was custom made for my foot, im almost considering waiting to bake em untill i try em out.

On another note...I mentioned before, im currently skating on mission amp6s...i played pickup tonight, and they felt ok, somedays i hate then other days there not bad, iv come to the conclution theyre to small considering if i get em nice n tite they hurt like hell, my foot goes numb, if i skate barefoot and lace em up like a sneaker(kinda loose)...i manage much better....however another problem i noticed, and could use some feedback on..is...sometimes if i cut into a u turn i loose my edge, its never a problem on pond ice(softer)...but more so on the rink...ill be in mid turn and my edge lets go, my feet come out from under me.....is it bad steel?...or me? as i mentioned the skates are a bit small for me, i did notice on the s12s and x 30s that fit me, they seemed to have slightly longer steel than the missions...providing a longer edge on the ice, do you think this would play a noticable factor????....

First, if there is a little space in the heel, baking will only make it worse, not better.

Second, if it was bad steel, you would always loose your edge. The mission steel that came in the amp series was actually quite good from what I recall.

your prob right!! it usually happens at high speeds, im guessing i overcompinsate, leaning in a tad to much

They where supposed to be some of the hardest steel of any skate on the market.

Supremes wider than Vapors? Are you sure?

Yes. Plenty of mention of this in numerous threads here.

Oh, I guess I'm deformed then ahah. No seriously I always thought Vapors were super wide, or at least in the ankle area they're wider

I'm thinking mainly of the forefoot. If you search here you'll find all kinds of comments on the comparison.
