great hockey bars

Recommended Posts

wondering what was out there and would love to check out some great hockey bars in the States and even possibly Canada if I was traveling. What are some great hockey bars or great places to watch hockey in general, if you can't make it to the game?

Is that all Rangers or just a general hockey bar? I'm a huge Devils fan but live in NYC and go to this place, Indian Moon Cafe on 71st and 1st but I get harassed there for NOT being a Rangers fan...not a great environment at all.

I am a Devils fan too and I love going there lol.

There is a place in NJ called Redd's and it is a decent Devils bar.

I used to love Tom Reid's Hockey Bar in St Paul, MN because they would pay my band a ton of money to play there and we knew the bartenders and would get free drinks. My favorite was playing New Year's Eve for $400 cash plus free dinner plus 5 bottles of champagne plus $100 bar tab. That was a night of debauchery.

If you come up to Toronto, you have to go to Real Sports next to the ACC.

It's not cheap or anything, but it was voted Best Sports Bar in a poll by ESPN and has the largest indoor screen in North America.

Not necessarily a hockey bar, but if you are in the Halifax(Nova Scotia) area and want a rowdy time check out the Old Triangle Irish Pub ... its going to be the place to be for the Canada Games

Maple Leaf Pub - Houston, TX... no other options here.

If your ever in Newfoundland you should check out Langers. It is owned and operated by former NHLer Darren Langdon. A lot of the time he is there and usually has a few good stories, there is also a nice collection of memorabilia including Gretzky's skates from his last year.

I went to Real Sports after it won that poll, and while it is impressive, it seemed like it kind of lacked... well, soul. Everything and everyone seemed a bit too corporate and polished. A good sports bar should have a few dents and tarnished surfaces, in both the decor, and the patrons.

Character . . . and maybe some old blood stains on the floor.

I went to Stanely's Sports Bar in San Jose before going to a Sharks game. Its on the second floor inside of Sharks Ice San Jose. While it may not have the 'character' talked about earlier I thought it was a great place. Big windows look over all of the rinks in the facility. There are also a bunch of flat screens all over the place playing hockey games and other sports, and bunch of beer on tap.

Admittedly I didn't do much water drinking while I was there.
