Rec league fees

I currently play at 3 rinks around Pittsburgh, prices seem to average around $1600 for a 10 game season plus playoffs.

I'm going to add a question...would you rather play a 10 to 12 game season, or 20 to 24 game season? I like the short seasons because if things go haywire on your team, there's less time to ride out before next season starts. The longer seasons, however, means that you don't have to collect money as often. I don't know anywhere around my area that plays more than a 12 game season, which typically lasts about 3 months (meaning 4 seasons per year).

It sounds similar to the debate between dating or getting married.

It'd be fun to do shorter seasons, but we only have summer (14 games) and winter (20 games). The summer playoffs were just three additional weeks of games if you kept winning (top 8 teams, then top 4, then top 2). Winter playoffs are a 3-game round robin and then a division championship followed by tier championship. Both are fun in different ways (summer was more like a weekly game with less intensity and more scoring, winter is much more intense, defensive, and physical).

I've always played on fairly strong teams, but I did sub for a team last year that was getting killed and half the guys stopped showing up. I can see how the season can get really long though for the losers, the locker room is just quiet and glum, people half-assing it on the ice, and then the fighting on the bench.

Ouch, this is making me sad. Here it's $5000 per team for 15 games + 2 possible playoff games. Our team came to $360/player.

Here is one for you guys. In Whitefish Montana, league fees are $35 per person for 8 games plus play offs (Max. 3 games). If you don't have a season pass it's additional $10 for every game.

Unfortunately the ice rink is closed down from Middle of April - Middle of September. But if you ever do end up going there for the summer be prepared not to ever wanting to leave.

This winter it is $5250 for 30 games (includes 3 playoff games) for team pay. 2 refs per game.

Comes out to be 11 to 12.50 per game per player depending on how many people you have.

You guys play 30 games? I'm in STL and we only play 20 + playoffs. Cost is $420 per person. All teams have to have matching home/away jerseys and socks as well.

Our team fee went up for the coming season, and they announced they had to add 11:30pm games to accommodate all the Robert Morris University Varsity, Club, and Intramurals as well as adding an additional highschool team... *Sigh*

Hopefully the Penguins' new complex in Cranberry can alleviate some of the issues.

Here in Cincy we're playing 10-12 games + 2 guaranteed playoff games, comes out to $105 league fees + $35 ref fees (based on 14 skaters + 1 goalie).

Sometimes the summer sessions are 10 games and fall/winter sessions are 12 games. We typically have 4 sessions a year.

I play D2 in the Dallas area & its $259 per player/$149 per goalie or $3300 per team for 12 games (3-12 minute periods with scorekeeper & 2 officials) & a single elimination playoffs for the upcoming season. We had 9 teams this past session so the 9th place squad does not get a playoff game, but in the past every team got at least one playoff game at the end of the session.
