HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 Got this email today from Combat. I had debated buying a pair of MF2 gloves before Combat bought them. Now I'm wondering what happens to the pricing of them.Ottawa based Combat Sports Inc. has recently acquired MF2 Hockey Inc. (a Michel Ferland company). The acquisition will see Combat takeover the MF2 Hockey manufacturing facility in St. Mathieu de Beloeil, QC. Michel Ferland, a 40 year veteran of the hockey industry has also agreed to a 5 year employee contract as Protective Equipment Product Manager for Combat Sports.“As we continue our growth as a company in to new product categories outside of our core business of hockey sticks and baseball bats, we looked for a partner that could provide us with the same expertise in hockey protective development that our current design and engineering team have. We wanted the best and that is what we believe we have found. Michel Ferland is an innovator and certainly brings a wealth of expertise to his field, his track record speaks for itself which made him and his company a natural fit for Combat”, Steven Sutherland, President, Combat Sports Inc. Combat plans to hit the market with its new Canadian made hockey glove, pant and referee protective equipment designs (By Michel Ferland) in March 2011 with samples and programs being released to dealer’s at all 2011 industry trade shows. Although the initial product offering will be narrow with a few models per category, Combat plans to expand its line for 2012 with some new innovative (patented) designs in a number of categories. Combat will also use the new manufacturing facility for product development in its Diamond Sports Division and newly launched Lacrosse Division.“Michel’s 40 years of experience in pro hockey equipment development is now being offered to the end user through our new line of high-end glove and pant product. The consumer will have a chance to experience the same level of quality and workmanship that Michel has been doing for NHL and pro hockey players for over 40 years”, says Dave McNally, VP Sales and Marketing, Combat Sports Inc.Full press release is here. Too Old 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 A guy that plays drop here just got a pair of MF pants a short time ago. Total customs and they were about half the cost of Tacklas and the quality looked great.
IceBuckeye88 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 I saw the Combat booth at the 'Let's Play Hockey International Expo' in Vegas. I tried on their new glove and recognized it as an 'MF2' glove with their name. I originally thought that MF2 was making the glove for them, like they do for Kynetyk. Now we know the real story. I will say it was a really nice glove. I had thought about buying a custom pair. I'll probably wait and see what they offer under Combat.

Shayno 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 Pretty cool looking Warrior Franchise knockoffs... Very subtle changes to say they're not... Is it too hard to come up with your own ideas?Junkyard.....this really bugs ya eh? Not the first time we have seen this, there not the only company making franchise knock offs? I like em! Cheers! Reaper 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 I believe MIA used to make gloves for Balistik before they became part of the Warrior collective. It wouldn't surprise me if Combat's glove strategy was based on sales of previous Balistik branded gloves.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 Also, why try and pass off your product as someone elses? At least they have permission to use the name on the cuff.
IceBuckeye88 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 LMAO!There are different facilities...MANY different ones.Funny, my group was told by our rep at the show about the deal. Funny...reminded me of a Franchise. The least they could've done was come out with a different graphics package. Why make it look like something it isn't?I agree. I'd ditch the 'franchise look'. That look is played and they should have something to call their own.
HockeySavants 5 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 If they can make the 'same' glove for a lot less than Franchises then I may give them a shot.

halfmoonyote 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 If they can make the 'same' glove for a lot less than Franchises then I may give them a shot. You get what you pay for. Only thing 'same' would be aesthetics. But if fashion (not function) is what's most important, by all means.
Shayno 1 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 Some originality would be nice Shayno. The track record there isn't the finest... Also, why try and pass off your product as someone elses?Nothing more than calling a sheep a sheep. I gotta agree with ya...........after doing a little more research....Cheers Junkyard!
