Pain from Bauer one100 tongue

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Recently converted some Bauer one100's into inline but thought best to post in the Ice Hockey section as there will be a larger population of Supreme users here. I've skated on them for around 20 hours now, and they've broken in just fine - absolutely love them.

However, the past two sessions I've started to get a rubbing / sharp pain on the side of my ankle from my tongue moving around to the outside of my boot and onto my ankle bone. I only experience this on my left foot (which is around half a size smaller than my right foot, which could explain the extra space for the tongue to move around?).

Don't want to flop my tongue over (which solves the problem) and expecting this to go away as the tongue softens and the boots continue to break in, but wanted to see if anyone has gone through similar / whether there are any ways to prevent it other than shoving some foam in my sock for a while.

Hopefully the example photo gives a better picture of the problem:

maybe bigger laces to hold the skate tongue tighter? or even a thicker sock on one foot lol all i can really think of. ive never had this issue with a tongue on my skate.

I have the same issue with this skate. However I seem to have it with all my skates. Just posted this in a thread earlier today.

Tongue looks too far to the side.

Yet thicker laces.

If that doesn't work instead of lacing over then under the eyelits, try going under then over.

I have one100s and I felt the same pain, but on both feet, and did this where there was pain and it has worked wonders for me.

I had the same issue with my one100's. I had it on both feet, I found it was due to the thickness of the felt tongues. What worked for me was flatting the edges of the felt tongue. I didn't have enough room between my ankle bone and the skate boot to accommodate the thickness of the tongue. So when i flattened the edges it fit better and the hot spot went away.

Thanks gents.

campion - how did your flatten the felt? Not sure whether I should do it on both feet to keep the boot consistent as I only have the pain on the left.

Hey guys,

Still having big issues with this, to the point where it's unbearable. Even causes pain when I absolutely load the top of my boot with sponge to relieve some of the pressure of the tongue on the side of my ankle.

I could loosen the top of my skates or flop the tongue over to get rid of the pressure / pain, but I've always preferred to have my skates locked tight all the way to the top.

Taken some of the advice in here and changed the way I lace my skates to under-over and put some thicker ones in with no luck. Have a few important tournaments coming up soon so getting pretty worried about it - anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks,

Dan

Flop the tongue and move on. Easiest solution which you yourself said would completely fix it in your original post.

I had a similar problem. I first used oval shaped cut outs of a Dr. Scholl's sneaker insole to fit between the tongue and my ankle/problem area. This worked, but for a more permanent solution, I switched out my original tongues for Graf white felt tongues and it solved all issues.

I have the exact same problem on my left foot with my one 100le's.

I hate the felt tongues and am currently trying to get a pair of One95 tongues from Bauer.

Tried to get hold of a TotalOne tongue from the UK Bauer Supplier - no luck. Currently padding the hell out of it with sponge and taping the tongue to my foot, seems to be doing the trick to keep it in place and (hopefully) they'll eventually break in and sit in the normal position.

Yianni54 - let me know if you have any luck speaking to Bauer and get hold of a tongue?

I was previously having these same issues with my one100's. Recently however the problem has seemed to dissipate. Maybe they had just needed to be broken in a little bit more. The last skate or two they have felt great.

I've got the same problem on my left ankle. Last season completely wasted due to the tongue issue. This season I tried putting some kind of foam between my foot and tongue, to make sure the edge of the tongue isn't rubbing over my ankle. Further I've adjusted my lacing, at the two top eyelets first over, then under.

It took me practicly whole summer to heal the sore spot at my ankle.

I originally had the same problem with some custom skates that had a double thick felt pro tongue. I shaved off the outer edges of the felt....problem gone.
