Issues with online retailers.

Recommended Posts

I've personally, knock on wood, never had any problems with any of the online placed I've ordered from: hockey monkey, hockey giant, and total hockey. I have a buddy I skate with that bought some Grafs from hockey monkey, they were obviously blemished skates. He wanted to return them and exchange, they wanted to charge him a restocking fee and basically implied that he did something to the skates. He obviously wasn't especially pleased with that, and when he spoke to a supervisor they did end up switching the skates out for no fee and gave him like 15% off the order. I guess that's something, but after hearing that I don't order from hockey monkey anymore.

I too have had issues with Hockey Monkey. I have had orders placed it it took almost a week for them to reach out to me and advise that the item was not in stock. Also the shipping sucks for East coast. They have a new building in NJ but ship all orders from the CA location. Sucks. I drive the 2 and a half hours to Hockey World when I need something from now on. I will have to check out IW people are giving it some props.

Ordered a few times from Monkey already. No problems, except that the items do take a while to be handled/shipped. My one time ordering from ice warehouse, the items shipped out much more quickly.

(Speaking of which, I have some fusion gloves arriving today. Though, looking back at the photos on the description page, I worried that they may be single-piece finger)

Just to add some opinions, IceWarehouse is by far my #1 shop if I can find what i need on their site. I live a few hours away so standard shipping is literally overnight. Never had a problem with an order and they ship out very quickly (same day most every time). My buddy also received gloves from them with a big cut on the cuff, called them and they sent him a new pair free of charge before even bothering to give him a return UPS label. That's just awesome of them.

I ordered some clearance shafts from HockeyMonkey and had no problems there.

TotalHockey has lost my business forever. Two orders, first one took a week for them to ship some socks that were in-stock. Second order took a week to ship and when I got it every item in the order was the completely wrong size. The return process was just as slow. Ordered on April 4th, got the correct items on April 26th.

HockeyMonkey called today, of course as i suspected they didn't have the Bauer Supreme One75 shin guards in stock. They called and i ended up getting the One80's and they were nice enough to give me 10% off the whole order. And its going to be here next thursday. I think they should upgrade my shipping but whatever. Overall decent customer service.

My rule with HockeyMonkey is to always call.

I talked to the HM rep on GSBB and he gave me his direct number to discuss price on a high ticket item. No problems.

What do you mean by a high ticket item?

Ordered Oakley Mace's in one color and size, received a different color and different size. When I questioned it, I was told the one I wanted was out of stock.

I don't order from online stores anymore.

I've found that IW has the best customer service of the online retailers I've used. I've had no issues with Hockeyworld.com, either. I've had the most issues with HM.

I just order a pair of x60s from hockeygiant.com. Anyone had any experience with them? I never ordered equipment online before besides blades from Ebay.

When it comes to hockey monkey i make a list of what i want and call their order phone line and talk to one person in particular she really takes care of me i've been buying directly from her only since 05 when someone else tries talking to me and saying they can help me which has been only twice and they did horrible , the person who helps me not only called me, fixed my order but with approval of her manager allowed me to keep for free what i had gotten by mistake. But they charge too much, with shipping and like all say you're SOL when it comes to a wrong order on a clearance bin if you order online.

IceW is great, i love it, i place an order and someone will call me to make sure the order is right and they use USPS so its here within 2-3 days max.

Greatskate, i pre-ordered those new Warrior Franchise shin guards. I called them to verify, they told me all the good stuff and the Arrival Time of release and what not, they said April 20. It's now April 29th and i had to call them two days ago wondering what the heck is going on and they said "oh we figured no one would notice the release date got pushed to the second week-ish of may"

Had i known this would happen i would have bought something else since i need shin guards, now.

I bought from HG for x60 skates and never had a problem. They told me the next day after ordering that they couldn't ship Bauer products overseas but recommended me to a forwarding company. Everytime I'd have a question the response has been quick. Good service.

I ordered a pair of clearance gloves in Montreal colors and received Canucks colors and was not allowed to return them because they were on clearance.

If you used a visa, IMO you wouldn't have had a problem getting your money back. Don't know how other cc company's are with dealing with this stuff

Many, many years ago the guy that answered my call at Peranis went out of his way to gather all of the Steve Sullivan Responses from the various shops in one location, then called me back to see how many I wanted. He ended up telling me that he wasn't comfortable selling one because of some visual defects. Not sure if it was true, or he just wanted one for himself. Either way, that was the best experience I ever had with any online hockey shop and better than many brick and mortar shops as well.

I wish you posted this a few months ago so when they were selling inno blades for $20 lol

I've used HG, IW, Total Hockey, Perani's Hockey World and HM. I've had a good experience every time. No issues with inventory, ship times, etc. Hope I keep the good luck going.

Since my LHS is anything but local I pretty much have to order all my gear online. I use Ice Warehouse for most everything. Where I live, if I order something in the morning it usually shows up the next day. Their membership program is great too. If I can't get it from IW, I use Total Hockey. They are great too. I have their Platinum membership which allows for free shipping on returns and exchanges.

Used Hockey Monkey once and wasn't too impressed. I'm also not to keen on how they add shipping cost to larger items like sticks.

I felt they screwed me on their big "weekend blowout sale, save 15%"..The online notice said nothing about it only applying to clearance merchandise so I ordered a new pair of skates and included the code as was advertised. I heard back from them 7 days later that they did not have the skates in stock and that the coupon was only for clearance..so not only was I out 15% but they didnt have the skates and I ended up having to buy a more expensive pair to get them in time for my kids clinic..never ordering from there again..

Didn't it say something like, "This coupon doesn't apply to X item"?. Still that sucks

Ive had good experiences with TotalHockey, PureHockey, Peranis, HockeyGiant and HockeyMonkey. One time monkey didnt have a shaft or a blade in stock and it took a few days for them to let me know. And HockeyGiant sent me the old R8 instead of the newer model which was pictured. However they offered to take it back and give me 15% off which was nice

I have had excellent experience with IW..Just recently when I needed to get a pair of hockey pants that no one had due to it being the end of the model year they worked with CCM to get me a pair in my size (XXL)..IW gets all of my business now..and given that myself and my son just started playing and both needed equipment head to toe, that was alot of business the past 2 months!
