FlyingDutchman 3 Report post Posted June 17, 2011 I tried a set of wax laces, and I won't go back to regular ones. Why? When I used typical laces, I had to tighten them up more uniformly, meaning my lower laces were too tight. These wax ones allow me to have looser laces across the top of my lower foot, and tighter up above where the ankle is. This is extremely comfortable.It was always a problem one way or the other. If I tight my regular laces loose enough for my lower laces to be comfy, it was hard to get my ankle tight enough. If my ankles were tight enough, my lower foot ached from being bound to tight. toddmanley 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2011 I recently decided to experiment and go back to regular laces after using wax laces for the past year. Perhaps it's just me, but I found that last night my feet were much more comfortable after 2+ hours of hard skating than they used to be with wax laces. I will note that it did take me a bit longer while lacing up the skates to get the laces how I wanted them in terms of tightness; with the wax laces it was more of a "set it and forget it" mindset. I had to go back to the bench a couple of times during warm-ups to adjust my laces, but once adjusted, things felt good.I'm sure I'll go back to waxed laces as I'm always screwing around and changing my mind on the little stuff like this... duch 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2011 I stick with the laces that come with any new skates until they show wear. Once they start to fray I always replace them with wax laces. I find wax laces stay tight and don't wear out as fast a conventional non-waxed laces. I don't really have a lot of issues with conventional laces staying tight for me because I like the lower part of my foot, near the toe cap loose, anyways.( but I still do prefer the waxed ones) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

zachary 2 Report post Posted June 17, 2011 I hate the Elite wax laces. My LHS has Bauer ones that I enjoy alot more. Don't ask why but I just do. As everyone else I'll never go back to regular laces. I think it's definitely ONE of the purposes, with the other being they don't soak as much water during the game, and so don't stretch nearly as much. as a result waxed laces don't loosen up due to getting wet unlike regular ones. Jarick 5 Report post Posted June 20, 2011 Those oval laces look similar to Gorilla laces, maybe a bit wider, don't know if it's got the little edges that bite.Personally I get a new pair of Graf waxed at the start of the season and they work great for pretty much the whole year. I put a pair of Elite in my One100 skates before I baked them and wow what way to get a tight fit. The wax warms up like the boot does and when you tighten it down it really wrenches down well.
