Only white, black and matte black. The other colors will be available Mar 1.

Don't know if you can answer this, but any reason as to why?

From a marketing stand point they're actually limiting themselves before Christmas.

But they also have a new helmet on the shelves months earlier than everyone else for 2012. Offered in a matte color not currently offered by anyone else (that I know of).

This is true, but I still don't get why not just release the entire line colour options. It's like they're only take half advantage of the opportunity.

It takes more time to produce the helmets in more colors. They had a limited amount of time to produce the helmets and have them shipped in time for x-mas sales. They chose to go with a couple distinctive colors. Essentially, they're just releasing the SE first and the regular edition later.

Next person to post the skate pic or where to find the skate pic will get suspended.

We've seen them

We know where/when the pic was taken

We do not post pics and speculate as to what they are. In return for our cooperation, manufacturers give us all of the information on new products as well as things you may not see for years, if ever. They also work with us to provide demo products at our member gatherings or product samples for long term reviews.

Bauer really needs to get their act together, covering their ass after this happens every year is getting old.

What's sad about this is that Bauer specifically asked the attendees at BauerWorld to not take photos and obviously, people did. Bauer, if they want to stay true to the "no photos" policy, should go after who took and posted these photos, and either eliminate the person's account with Bauer, or, not bring them to BauerWorld in the future.

Or cut out any trust factor completely and start making people surrender their cell phones and cameras before they see the product.

It evidently happened when they dropped off the skates to get sharpened and left them unattended.

Shouldn't they be able to take care of sharpening skates themselves? You'd think a skate company would be able to do that at least for sensitive stuff like this.

It wasn't intentional. The picture was taken a day before BauerWorld, while they were getting the skates sharpened before the event. I know the shop and the person who leaked it (it wasn't an employee.)

As someone who went to BauerWorld and spoke to everyone, I can tell you that they did not want that skate leaked. They wanted to unveil it themselves in the NHL. And the conversations I've had since it was leaked tells me that they really do care.

In a day and age where anyone can snap a photo and put it on the internet for everyone to see instantly, it is naive of Bauer to believe they can show a skate and not expect that a picture of it isn't going to hit the internet. And it happens every year. They may say that they want to control the release themselves, but if they really wanted to do that, they wouldn't be showing the skate at Bauerworld in the first place. Bauer may say that they care, but I'll guess that they really don't mind the hype at all. This is a skate that will be seen everywhere in a matter of weeks, it doesn't rise to the level of a trade secret. The other skate companies aren't going to steal the design and save themselves years of research. What this will do is generate buzz. And that's just what Bauer wants.

I appreciate that you don't want leaked pictures posted on your forum, and think that it is a noble position. It is your site, so people should abide by it. But that position really isn't founded in reality.

Governments can't keep their own classified war plans off the internet. And this skate can be googled and seen already too. If Bauer didn't want people talking about the skate, they wouldn't have brought it to Bauerworld.

They have to bring it in order to sell them to dealers. They haven't been able to get shops to buy product without showing it, yet.

Is it things like "Bauerworld" that make them more vulnerable? It's always bauer products that get leaked and never easton, ccm, reebok etc assuming they don't have similiar conventions.

The industry trade show was in Vegas a couple weeks ago. So far I haven't seen any pics of any of the new stuff that was shown there for the first time. Other than the CCM shoulder pads that were on HNIC last night, that is.

As someone who skated at Bauer World, that sharpener needs some practice.

And I'm pretty sure every dealer, as well as Bauer, actually benefits from the buzz that a "leaked" photo produces. It gets people talking about the "cool new skate that's coming out next spring." Or do you not think that they do?

Again, I'm not saying that their official position is not that they'd like to control the release and the hoopla, but I also think they fully realize that as soon as you put a brand new skate in the hands of a bunch of retailers that there's a pretty good chance that a picture of the skate will hit the internet. It always does. And while it is your prerogative to threaten your members if they wish to talk about the skate here, it seems pretty heavy handed when we could go anywhere else and talk about it. I think it is clear from what you guys have written about this is that you know who probably took the pictures and there's no doubt about what you think of this person. And that's what's driving the ban on talking about it and it isn't about keeping Bauer's secret, because that cat is out of the bag already and it is no secret.

And if that's it, then that's fine. Its your site, your rules.

dude -

the skate was NOT leaked by a retailer. The picture was taken by a kid who JUST HAPPENED to be in the shop when those skates were being sharpened for the event. It hadn't been shown to a single retailer at that point.

I've known the kid and his family for 11 yrs. He made a honest mistake. I spoke to him (not even a MSH member) yesterday about it. It wasn't orchestrated to create buzz.

Those who attend BW are not stupid. It's a pretty ritzy place and event, they will not take a picture of anything there because it would jeopardize their account standing.

as for our policy with leaks - we do it to protect the dealers as well as the mfgrs. It is just way too early.

Good to know. Of course the reality is that however it happened, it is now all over the internet now and its creating buzz nonetheless, right? Just like what seems to happen every year.

It creates way more negatives than positives when it happens this early.

Bauer already has a marketing plan in place to generate buzz for different product with specific target dates leading up to launch. All the companies across all industries do this. They invest time and money into strategies to market the product. This unintended leak is not part of the plan that any company wants to incorporate when launching new product.
