2011-2012 Suspension thread

Didn't look like he targeted the head. Mostly because Boyle is so damn tall. It wasn't as late as the Torres hit either. But the biggie. No injury!!!

Here is a freeze frame of the initial contact... Is this not the exact hit the league has been saying they want to get rid of for the past 2 years? Also, there was an injury on the play as Boyle played one shift after the hit and is already ruled out of game 6 with a concussion.

No hearing for Neil... So I guess this is the NHL saying they want this hit in the game?

Neil seems to get a free pass on things, this isn't the first time this season.

Well i take back what i said. Pretty conclusive evidence there... It didn't look as bad real time compared to the Torres hit.

hard to say but it looks like his feet are on the ice

Still came completely across the ice and hit a player who was being pressured by two other Sens players in the head. And while his feet do remain on the ice he still lifted the shoulder and drove upward into the hit.

Cut across the middle with your head down, it's going to happen. Clean hit in my opinion, both feet stayed on the ice, he may have connected to the head but he certainly wasnt' targeting it. Not really a huge fan of Neil, but I'm afraid I have to agree with him on this play. Some responsibility has to be placed on the player carrying the puck, keep your head up and don't cut across the middle of the ice like that. I can guarantee Boyle won't make a play like that again any time soon.

Boyle was hit about one second after the puck actually left his stick. Hossa was hit about four seconds after he lost the puck, even though he didn't really have full control over it.

The League defines anything after .5 as "late". CBC (I think...maybe TSN) even broke the Hossa hit down to 24 digital frames.

I'm still baffled as to how Torres gets 25 and Neal only gets one for practically the same thing.

A) Because it wasn't the exact same thing?

B) It's the NHL.

And nothing for driving Pietrangelo head first into the boards. I guess he wasn't hurt badly enough.

Ridiculous. The injuries that can be sustained from a hit from behind are far worse than anything else that can happen on the ice. The NHL is so focused on head shots they seem to forget about the fact that a hit from behind can be much worse than a hit to the head.

NHLPA to appeal Torres suspension. Link: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=394939

The NHLPA would win the appeal if it was held before a neutral arbitrator, that suspension does not fit in with what the NHL has given to other players. Since it is Bettman, and he likely had a hand in this particular suspension, I wouldn't count on it being reduced unless the Coyotes are eliminated. Lots of conflicts of interest here though.

Plenty of talk on local sports radio that the NHLPA doesn’t expect to win but is posturing going into the CBA negations to highlight that a neutral arbitrator is required for the appeal process. Since appealing to Shanahan’s boss has more than a little conflict of interest.

I thought they said on HNIC and Bettman is the arbitrator for his appeal hearing?????? LOL Hello conflict...meet interest!

He's also the owner of the team for the suspended player. I think all of the conflicts cancel out, or they're multiplied, or something.

Having an independent arbitrator would be more appropriate. It would hold the NHL accountable for the seemingly random manner in which they issue suspensions.

Any popint in even speculating on what Giroux might get? Probably better off throwing darts at a board full of numbers.....(That IS how the League decides suspensions, isn't it?)

I'll take a wild stab and say 2....which in the roughly times 2 world of playoff v. regular season discipline would make it a 5 or 6 gamer....meh...an absolute science it is not!

I think the fact that he was kinda running around looking for someone to hit will work against him!
