Gear Stench - Which piece the most?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Question, which piece of gear do you find stinks the most? Smells all the same to me but just curious if you found one that stinks more than the other..

I'll be playing multiple nights, some the night right after a game. But for some games, I'll get home at night, let it dry out overnight, then I'll have to pack it in and bring it with me to work to play after. When we hit the spring/fall seasons, its not hot or cool enough to have the heat running, the gear doesn't dry as well and reeks. So I'm considering picking up a second set of equipment pieces to use on alternating nights.... but not to go overboard and save some money, what pieces should I get to minimize the stench?

I'm guessing shoulders and gloves are the worse? Or is it mainly the elbows because they're thicker and don't dry as quick?

my skates stink the worse...if I ever take them to get them sharpened and the wife is with me in the car, I hear about it...a lot, lol

you can always get a shock doctor powerdry bag...I have one for back to back games (I keep my stuff in the garage) and it works pretty well at drying stuff....don't use the bag to carry stuff in though, just use it to dry...two cycles (6 hourish) is usually enough and cheaper then buying another set of gear

Maybe use a fan to dry the gear when your heat isn't on. I use a box fan in my apt's basement to dry my gear year round (+ a dehumidifier in the summer). I used to use the SD blower bag but it was too humid in the basement to work the majority of the year.

Skates haven't gotten to that level yet with my skates. I will say, my shins are just horrid. Also, the crotch of my pants sometimes. It's a horrible smell when sitting on the bench some games.

LOL. Crotch rot.

My gloves, helmet and shins, for sure. I guess it really depends on where your sweat glands are. Personally, my pits are always dry as a bone but my head sweats like crazy.

My elbows are the worst.

Shin pad liners can go in the wash.

Gloves and skates go on my ShockDoctor blower.

Unless I hand-wash my elbows or something - they are the only thing that cannot be properly dried right away or easily washed.

Gloves are a million times worse than anything else. I don't have an answer for them. They always smell horrible.

Shins, elbows, and shoulders start to smell after a couple months so I wash them in a little detergent and bleach.

Skates never smell, I don't even take them out of the bag, they dry just fine though. Pants never smell either (Tacklas). I don't wash them anymore.

I always take the stuff out of the bag and spray it with alcohol and let it dry, but lately I've not been using alcohol and I think it might be a better option. Dries a lot quicker and seems to stink less. Maybe the alcohol/water mix was making them wet too long.

The only thing that I ever have to wash is my elbows and my shins. My gloves/skates never get rank. My shoulders can get a little smell to them, but never anything that attracts attention.

My Skates and gloves go on my DryGuy boot dryer, and itvworks gras long as I don't skate barefoot. It has been a great investment. I don't use the heat, just air. http://www.dryguy.net/DG1.html

I've seen a new product that does uv light on a similarly shaped stand. I'm seriously considering one for my shoes as well as my skates

My skates smell like dog food atm. Not the wet stuff, but, like, the stench that comes out when you open up a bag of dry food and pour it into their bowl.
