Do Fake TotalOne stick exist?

Recommended Posts

Have severe doubts about a total one i picked up off a guy on kijiji....that's why i don't like kijiji, i don't like confrontation, and had committed to buy it and didn't know if it looked off because it was pro stock or what.

Do counterfeits of OPS exist?

Throw up some pictures of it. I'm not quite sure how anyone would "counterfeit" a Total One besides it simply being a prostock of another actual Bauer stick (like a One95, which truly wouldn't be a huge deal because they're incredible sticks).

I've seen some X60's out of China that were fakes (they claimed they were samples made for Bauer) from Prince Hockey, just one of many clone manufacturing companies (and Prince Hockey make cheap shitty sticks). The join between the blade and and the stick wasn't that flash but otherwise it was a dead ringer, graphic wise, for a real X60. When you used it though there were clear differences between the two as to feel, stiffness and response.

So do fake TotalOnes, X60's etc exist out there? With the way the price is going on sticks you can guarantee someone out there will be trying to make a fast buck on copied sticks, the new stealth comes to mind......

I guess it was either copied from a Euro version or is a Euro version i don't know...it looks off? I understand that Euro sticks only have the pattern (p88) and not the name but that is clearly not a p88.

No name plate.

Pic of my TO's

kuva-1-1.jpg

The grip coating on my sticks doesn't go nearly as low as in that pic. Also the shaft shape looks different. Maybe it's a x60 repaint? I also remember reading that some display sticks had wrong pattern numbers on them.

Someone came in my store with the same "counterfeit" TotalONE. We compared it to our retail TotalONEs and pro stock TotalONEs. Here are the differences we noticed:

- The name is written upside down with a slightly different font.

- There was a bump in the joint between the shaft and the blade (we can see it on your picture, where the "87-FLEX" is written).

- The tile pattern within the bottom of the shaft and the blade was not consistent.

- The stick was a bit heavier (maybe 10-15 grams) than the retail and pro stock TotalONE.

Overall, it was a good replica in terms of looks. However, performance wise, I didn't have the chance to test it on ice. It felt cheap, though.

I've seen a few that said they were the P106 but had a P92 pattern.

If that stick is fake that's disappointing. I can only imagine how bad it's gonna on eBay.

It has become a major issue in the musical instrument world. Some of the forgeries are getting very hard to identify in pictures.

Key difference is to look inside the actual shaft and see if the markings match the Pro Stock/Retail

And next of course it to look at the serial number...The first serial that stays on the stick will have so it lines up underneath the "R" in "BAUER" with the end of the removal sticker lining up at the beginning of the "B" in the "BAUER" logo on the opposite side of the stick.

Most counterfeit sticks won't have a serial or will look of poor quality.

I have been offered a pack of 10 "X:60" sticks for $500 shipped from China and said they only do one flex and curve. I knew then I smart to stop replying to their e-mails.

The quality can't be that terrible but probably doesn't go through the same Quality & Assurance

The beauty and ugliness of human nature is that it all balances out, so just like in any other industry counterfeit goods are a good measuring stick if something is overpriced based on brand name or other marketing hype. If the margins are very small in certain industry then you’ll never see a counterfeit. The stick technology has reached its limits when it comes to innovation, so companies can’t come up with something newer to keep one step up with the counterfeiters. The fashion industry is a great example of this phenomenon, because you can’t justify to a consumer that the same cotton shirt that uses the same quality cotton and same quality ink has a $200 price difference, no mater what morals or laws you believe in.

Cheers

While I agree with some of what you say, there is no way you can justify putting the logo of another company on your product.
