Curve Help

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody. Requesting some help for a new curve. First, some background:

Started with a Sakic. Moved to a Crazy Ovi. No backhand for me and crazy wild shots but manageable. Moved back to the Sakic and love it. Still shoot high occasionally so I watch my mechanics. But there are some things I want to find for a more balanced blade for my game.

So I'm looking for a blade that is slightly open. Mid curve but no more bend than a Sakic but I don't want a paddle. I want a squarer toe and it can't be much shorter than the Sakic. What are y'alls recommendations?

Thanks for the help.

P89/Vanek would fit your bill.

I fell in love with the curve, so it's now more difficult to find.

The Vanek looks great. I really like the P10 curve/ Shanny but I do not want to start using that curve since its discontinued. No sense in getting a curve that is almost extinct. How long is the P88, Tavares/Datsyuk, Heatly? Anybody got some righty shots of some?

Heatley used to be real short, but on the RS it seems about average. Also has a rounded square toe, which you'll like.

The only problem for you is that the Heatley is a true 5 lie, so you may not like that. To me, the Datsyuk seemed comparable, and is closer to the 5.5-6 lie you might be used to.

I moved from Sakic to Warrior's Gionta, I know it's not exactly what you describe, but for me the transformation was seamless.

Same here. The difference in lie and the flatter mid-section made a world of difference for me.

I used to play a Bauer P92 and a Base BC01(Hossa Pro). I recently switched to a Toews P14. Great curve, not as open as P92, toe is less round and it has rocker that I like. Give it a try. It seems like a milder P92.

U can try Bauer P08 (Ovi) curve, i switched on this curve from Crazy Ovi. It's graet curve.

The P08 is pretty nice. Far from a true illegal Ovechkin Prostock like the Harrow Pattern 10 or Kremlin, but it seems to have all the benefits...just toned down.

The p08 I have is real similar to the p91a which is 5.5

on the modsquad patterndb they have the p92 listed as 5.5 too :S

The P08 plays lower than the P92. But side by side the P92 plays more upright than the P91a imo.

use the warrior customizer and go with the Versteeg pattern. Essentially a Sakic but with a open toe bend at the end, it's a touch longer too. Lots of pics on the forum of the pattern.

I agree with the earlier post, the Iginla curve is similar to the Sakic but not so open so your shots are more controlled...again the only downside is that it is about 1/2 inch shorter

Im w/ 808. I think the p14 is a perfect balance between easily controlled passes and the ability to loose a sharp rising shot. And easy to keep low when you want to. My passes kept end-over-ending with the p92 and I couldnt roof with the p88. Of course, that was probably my personal problem, but the Toews is perfect.

P14 is niice, but quite a bit shorter than the p92/

I have played around with some of the curves mentioned.

I have a pro stock stick with an Ovi curve. Slapshots miss the glass high... More of a down low in the slot type of curve. Very useful there.

I prefer the P92 Backstrom. Still can raise the shot if I need it, but I don't have to think about it. Its my curve of choice right now.

I also have a Gionta. I have more trouble picking the corners with it. But it is a hard and accurate shot. Better stick handling and passes don't roll. I would rate it higher, but I'm not a huge fan of how the dolomite it is attached to plays. Put it on a Bauer shaft, and I might be unstoppable. :)

To the OP, I would give the Gionta a good look.

I know it has been mentioned a few times but I think your best bet on what you have said you liked would be a Datsyuk or the Heatly. Both mid curves with square like toes. Both mid curves that dont open up very much. But both are shaped different so best bet would be to check out a shop and actually see how they look in real life. Curve on the internet tend to look different when you have them in your hand.
