Laces that come with Reebok skates (thick ones)

Recommended Posts

When I bought my Reebok 8k's last year, they came with really "fat" laces. Not "fat" as in cool, but "fat" as is the width of the lace itself.

They were clothe, un waxed and the biggest mistake I ever made was replacing then losing them.

I've been to a few LHS but have been unsuccessful in finding the original laces that came with the skate. I've also tried several online sites and have also come up short.

Does anyone have an idea if these can only be ordered through Reebok or where I can score a pair?

I am having similar thoughts about the CCM laces that came with my U+ 10s. At first I assumed I would change them pretty early to waxed Elites, but I am liking them a lot. If you tie them tight and make a good knot, after skating for a few minutes they loosen just right.

I searched and could find nothing online or in a couple of hockey shops.

How come none of the skate manufacturers seem to sell extra laces?

I find the Elite laces are still a little thin for my liking. What I really miss are the yellow Graf laces that I had way back when. If I could get a line on some of those then I'd be happy. I've even considered just offering to buy them out of a pair of Graf skates if I thought a shop would do it.

Elite does make Oval laces that are plenty thick that you can look into if you want thick laces. I tried them but were way too thick for my liking but may be right for some

Howie's. Same lace.

Elite has a series called "Pro X2" or something like that. They're non-waxed only, but they are very thick/wide like the stock RBK ones are.

I don't mean to turn this into a "which laces are better/which laces I use" thread, but if you're looking for similar alternates, I replaced my stock RBK laces with Gorilla laces (with the metal tips). Pretty thick/wide, and just a touch of wax. Nowhere near as thick as Elite oval, but I found the ovals started to twist over time and just became round (anyone who has used them knows what I'm talking about).

I still have my stock RBK laces (never been used) if you really want them (though I'm in the middle of moving so you'd have to wait).

WOW, I hated the laces that came with my 11ks.. Elite waxed replaced them before I even skated in em..

Not to hijack this but, does anyone know where i can get the Tex-style smoke laces? They're like the Vapor laces.

I find the elite laces too thin for my liking as well.

Here's the update on my lace-life.

A couple of months ago one of my beloved CCM laces got slashed by a skate blade and broke. I replaced with Elite Oval Waxed.

These gave an iron-like grip. The problem was, there was almost no give. You need to tie them just enough pressure, or you will be in "a world of pain". And after an hour or more on the ice, they were bitch to undo. I even resorted to a lace hook. That got me a dirty look from the captain of my one team.

After a few weeks I switched to the flat unwaxed Elite. I they were no where near as good as the original CCM laces, but at least they had some give. In fact, too much.

This morning I took my skates in for sharpening and found that the shop carries these:

http://textilemfg.ca

(Made in Toronto?!? What Chinese province is that in?)

Are these what BlueandGold was referring to? The logo on the wrapper says "Tex*Style" (the asterisk marks where they have a Maple Leaf).

They are about twice as thick/wide as the elite flats, and about the same width as the CCM, yet even thicker. The lady who runs the shop says they are cotton, whereas the Elites are polyester.

When I switched them out I compared side by side and the Elite 120" were about 8" longer than these, which are supposed to be 120". Perhaps the Elites stretched from wear.

Once in the skate these things made the Elites look like laces from running shoes.

Anyway, I am hopeful that I have found what I was looking for. I will try them out tomorrow night in a couple of games.

Ah, so they do. Seems they're missing a couple of the styles though (smoke, in particular).

But I've fallen in love with gorilla laces. nice and wide, and they don't lose their shape at all what so ever, or roll at all.

I see smoke at the very bottom.

I was looking at the Howie's website when I said that, sorry I should have been more clear.

Where can you buy these "smoke" laces? Doesn't seem like they sell them individually on the site.

I'd like to know also, seems that's one of the few colors (along with that nasty camo pattern) that Howie's doesnt carry.

Heh I'm not going to wear colored laces, but I do like the "smoke". I like my current laces too much to change to Howie's, though.

The ones I found are 2000MT. Wore them three times now and they are great. Pull the skate much snugger than the Elites but have a little unlike, the waxed.

I think I will stick with these.
