bauer shields...

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about getting a Bauer shield. I'm looking at either one of the mirrored ones or the tinted ones. I was just wondering if anyone has either of those, if they could post some pictures? I wanna see what they actually look like on a helmet. I'd also like to see what they look like when youre wearing them, and what they look like looking thru them.

You'll get a lot better results if you're more specific, ie model numbers, Also having someone hold a camera up behind a visor will not effectively recreate your view while wearing the visor.

Well, Bauer makes the Pro Wave, Straight, and Aviator in clear, tinted, and mirrored. I want to see more pictures any model in tinted and mirrored. You don't have to put the camera right behind the visor. Just hold it back 2 feet or so.

I had the mirrored one for a while. You look like a cyborg when you play. I loved the tint (very dark, like sunglasses), but guys hated playing with me. Always complained of not "being able to see my eyes". I just use a clear one now. Looking forward to the new amber coloured ones when they come out.

Being able to make eye contact with team mates is pretty important in my mind. Far more important than any gain you'd get from hiding your eyes from opponents.

I can't stand skating with guys wearing mirrored or dark shields. Unless you play outdoors they make no sense to me.

I definitely understand the use of tinted visors for players with concussion history. I was dealing with some light sensitivity/headaches due to an eye injury and I tried skating wearing sunglasses (it wasn't during a game or anything) and the difference was extremely noticeable. Other than that...I don't think they serve any purpose. I use a clear straight-cut Bauer visor and it works perfect for me.

There's guys in my league wearing blue and yellow Oakleys. A few tints and the mirrored visors are pretty well extinct. My leage is pretty chill too. No chirps for the mirrored or colour tint visors. We're just out to play some hockey. Anyways, the point I was trying to drive home is these guys with the blue or yellow visors swear by them. They bring up contrast and take glare off the ice, but I'm with EBondo the clear one works great for me.

Bauer RBE I, around $30 max, and works just fine. Never understood the appeal to tinted, mirrored, or fancy visors.

+1 for this. Old school, longer for more protection, won't break bank.

I wear a cage, but if I didn't, I would definitely go for an optically corrected visor. In my opinion, the distortion on the flat visors (RBE I) makes the extra money for the curved lense worth it. I don't really care one way or the other about tint/color/mirror/length...wear what you like.

I'm an RBE I user too, but I'm getting really tempted by the new Bauer "HDO Pro-Clip" visors in the catalogue (p. 45). Love the idea of the clip-in/clip-out feature for cleaning.

I've worn the mirrored visor and a clear visor. The mirrored one, i had to pretty much be assualted to get a call from the ref, once i switched to clear the refs started calling more. The tinting on it was nice as EBondo says if you have light issues, but the crap i got from players in league and the stigma to a mirrored visor wasnt worth it. The clear was just that, nothing really special. I switched to a full cage, got tired of the hacks and having to worry about if i was going to go to work the next day looking like i went 10 rounds w Ali!

I really didn't want to start a new topic, because of this little question so I'm asking here.

Do you know what the "Bauer Straight Pro" visor looks like? I've tried google, but it gives me multiple different pictures and I've checked few online stores, but I've only found "Bauer Straight Pro Cut Half" and they're supposedly different visors, because these are non certified and "Straight Pro" is.

This is my Bauer tinted straight. I haven't used it yet and has never used a visor before, so I do not have anything to compare it to.

This probably won't help you Joonas, mine's the non certified version.

I've read that certain Pro players prefer the tinted visor because the lighting is so different in all of the arenas. Some arenas have brighter lighting and they claim the reflection off the ice is a little much so they like the tinted visor. I've never played with a tinted visor but if it works like sun glasses then it allows the eyes to relax. It's amazing how much fatigue the brain can get from eye strain. So if a player feels a tinted/colored visor cuts down on that eyes strain then I can see the benefit.

But like above mentioned about mirrored.....it drives me nuts not being able to make eye contact with a teammate. Whether it be a mirrored visor or him just not looking up before he rips a shot/pass.
