NHL 13 Demo Aug 21

I really liked the new skating engine. Goalies look more realistic with their saves as well, which is awesome. The only thing I struggled with was passing. It was very tough. Overall, I like it quite a bit.

I felt the same away. As far as the passing goes, I figure I will tweak the sliders to make the passing feel more natural to me.

Pros- I began playing the demo and immediately noticed a huge difference as far as game play went. It seems, although i can't be certain because i haven't played a human opponent, that they took out all the rediculousness of NHL 12 by improving the physics engine/ skating. Skating back and forth constantly to deke opponenets is no longer a viable option as lateral movement is much slower. Both stick and body checking have became more realistic as body positioning affects the outcome of both checks, preventing the constant crushers and the ever so annoying players who poke check/ stick lift the whole game. A.I. seems to have improved significantly, close passes dont seem to slip by much at all, players defensive positioning has improved and goaltending has improved significantly. The playability or time spent playing seems like it can be grow alot with new game modes Gm Connect (seems fun but maybe a little to complex) and NHL moments which was easy to pick up and seems like it could be fun.

Cons- The cons of the game are at first glance covered by the huge jump in gameplay in which the biggest innovation in six years may be correct, however little to know innovations have been made in the field of presentation. The first thing I noticed when playing the demo is how cluttered the menu appeared; the menu itself was developed for the demo however i did not find the background or overall setup to be appealing. Secondly there has been little to no revamp to the NHL experience rinks/ fans are the same boring thing as always and cutscenes have only been improved to the least noticeable amounts and graphics within the scenes seem to be stuck in 06; the stanley cup cutscene is particularily unfufilling and predictable. The only presentation aspect which seems to not have changed and for a good thing is the killer soundtrack!

Overall Opinion- I will not only by this game because I'm a season to season buyer and prefer to play against the largest base of online opponents but also because there has been such positive improvements as far as gameplay and removing unrealistic/ unbelievebale cheap playing style. The user interface and presentation of the game hold it back from really being the huge innovation it is supposed to be, maybe this season the announcers will realize the kings have won a cup since 72? Heres to praying that unrealist unconditional won't be a factor, and that maybe this years only NHL action won't be on my Xbox!

Played a couple games of the demo yesterday. The overall feel is a big improvement from 11-12. Im a big fan of the new skating/physics engine, as it feels like the most realistic hockey sim EA has put out. I just wish they had manual shot aim on the demo.

I didn't get last years game because of time issues. This year I will be getting it. I haven't tried the demo, but I'm sure that I'll enjoy the game. While everything isn't realistic, it is still the best (or at least one of the best) sports games out there.

If another one of my players fumbles a breakaway pass, or a 2 foot pass, or a breakout pass, or any pass in general the disc will be a 60 dollar frisbee. this game is so disappointing.

I don't mind the gameplay that much. Poke checks online need to get nerfed, but the lag and freezing online for PS3 makes it pretty much unplayable.

Not sure if im the only one but this game has some serious issues, lag/connectivity issues are major and i find myself lagging out of 2 to 3 games a day. Goalies are unbearably hard to score on making the game more of a drag than Nhl pre-lockout, poke checks are over powered compared to other forms of defense and stats are unrealistic ( Ilya Bryzgalov 89  ?????). The lagging however has forced me to try out Nhl moment, which i am impressed by. Also the soundtrack is awesome as always!

the lag is pretty horrendous, and the skating needs a lot of tweaks still, but overall i think its good and going in the right direction. i hate when im skating really fast and i only have the option to take a really really wide turn or a complete stop, nothing in between.

is there any reason why easton rs stick was left out for the 2nd year in a row? i think the easton rs 1 came out like a month or 2 after nhl 12 launched? i find it weird they had the warrior krown in nhl 12 and it only came out like a month ago

Free skate for a bit and you should learn how to skate. I have no problem being agile, it's not 12 where changing direction is as simple as pointing a stick. I've found the goalies to be fair, except for when they teleport to stop the cross-creases. The lag though is insane, I get it every single game in all modes and it's not internet related.

This past weekend we had two guys in a room playing 12 projected onto a wall, and then perpendicular to that another two on a TV playing 94. We'd alternate, a lot more interference penalties occurred in 12 after playing 94.
