Bauer Nexus 1000 Skate Initial Thoughts

Recommended Posts

it mention fit is little different than the rest of the line (simliar to apx > vapor and t1 > supreme line). would this skate be any deeper in the midfoot instep? I tried the 600 model just for a fit and noticed it was basically same as the old flexlite line. I know it mention the forefoot is different how about the mid-foot area? Thanks,

Are they going to make these in a junior size? I'm REALLY interested in these, but after a couple pairs of skates I made mistakes with, I've found out that I cannot fit into any senior skate at all. I have Gionta feet.

"I've described this skate as a cross between the Flexlite and the 8090;"

JR- which skate would you say this fits closer too? the only skates I can get to fit my feet are ee 8090's, tried flexlites and they weren;t deep enough, and I tried the nexus 800's which didn't feel right either...hoping the different fit of these will be closer to an 8090...

I've seen it before on grafs, missions and I'm sure they were there at some point on other skates but what's the point of the holes on the tendon guard, is it to tie them up? Does anyone do that?

Are those tendon guard eyelets for the old-time tie-on tendon guard fenders?

I skated in my new Nexus 800's last night. I wear a jr skate so I got the top stock skate. It was my first time wearing them and I was in them for three hours refereeing some old lady hockey. I love them. I am coming from the Vapor XXXX, which fit ok, but never really had that "slipper" feeling that a well broken in pair of skates will acquire after a couple seasons. I baked them once and sharpened them at 5/8".

I love the depth of the skate and the width of the toe box. I put in some shock dr insoles and I didn't have any issues with the arch rubbing weird and no foot pain. I had a couple of hotspots on my ankle bones but I am going to do a little spot heat in the skate to take get that taken care of. I'm happy with the skates. They have a ton of support but aren't too stiff. They felt great while cornering and stopping. I know this thread is for the Nexus 1000, but I figured I would write a little about my 800's. Oh, and they look awesome.

The 1000 has the same approximate volume inside the boot, but will fit slightly different from the rest of the line. The 1000 is a one-piece ultra light Tech Mesh quarter vs. the 2-piece compression molded EVA (800, 600, 400). The feel of the fit will be different in the forefoot. The molded EVA "cradels" the forefoot based on the 3 dimensional shape of the mold vs. the straight wall construction of the one-piece NEXUS1000. While the width is equivalent the fit sensation is different.

In the 1000 your forefoot sits between two basically straight walls of Tech Mesh, HD foam and reinforcements. In the 800 and below, your foot is cradeled more in the 3D shape of the EVA mold...

Hope this helps.

I tried on the 800 and 1000 last night in the pro shop and I agree with the fit sensation being different. Unfortunately, neither is wide enough in the forefoot for me.

Tried on the 1000's the other day in an 8D. I have a wide forefoot, narrow heel, and high instep. The Forefoot was snug, but could probably be punched or heated. The problem for me was the heel. No matter how much we snugged the skate down my heels lifted with every step. I also tried the 800's. These were much better in terms of heel lift, but the forefoot was really snug. I did not bake either skate, but I think the 800 had more ankle padding, and would probably have gotten better in the forefoot with heat. I really wanted to like the 1000's, but for my weird shaped foot they just did not fit properly.

Tried on 1000s (7.5D) today. Like chrisg19, I have a fairly narow heel, wider forefoot, and higher arch (I can barely even lace up Vapors, midrange Supremes are just okay). My feet were a little snug in the forefoot and loose in the heel. Heating one, the snugness was gone completely but my heel was still a little loose when pushing my foot in a skating type motion on the rubber floor. 800s felt better unheated.

How much would dropping a 1/2 size change heel fit? I had tried an unheated mid-Reebok 7E last year and it seemed alright...

I wish my LHS had the Nexus skates... am already convinced that this might be the end to looking for that great pair of fitting skates (you have heard that one before!)

Ive had a pair of Flexlite 3 in size 8.5D, and assume that the Nexus 1000/800 would be very similar in terms of the fit? The Flexlites fit me comfortably, but were too soft and creased after a few skates.

I used to have a Flexlite coversion for rollerhockey (V-Force model boot...similar to the V12) and tried on the Nexus 1000's at Summer Jam. I believe the heel on the Nexus is significantly wider than the heel on the old Flexlites and I don't think the forefoot is quite as wide as the Flexlite forefoot, but the difference is more noticeable in the heel than the forefoot.

As stated earlier in the thread. If you are looking for a Flexlite boot, the Nexus 800 is what you should be looking at.

Would the length on the Nexus 1000 perhaps be a touch longer than the NXG boot? I'm sitting here with 7.5D's in both (I realize the difference in width's between the two lasts, but it's the best I could find around here) and the Nexus feels maybe a hair longer.

Kind of torn between the two (plan to return one)...the Nexus feels incredibly comfy but the heel area is a little too wide. NXG feels better in the heel, I feel more 'locked in', it's lighter, but I'm a tiny bit concerned about the length and more so concerned about a lack of depth cutting off circulation to my toes as was the problem in my Vapors. Leaning Nexus at this point probably.
