sock sizing: Will junior socks (~24") fit me better than senior socks (~30")?

Recommended Posts

I'm a 5'6", 155 pound adult and I wear junior/intermediate shin guards (Rbk 4k @ 13.5").

Senior socks usually have more than enough length for me at around 30".

I would otherwise shop for intermediate socks, but junior socks, at 24", are often much cheaper on clearance.

Would I still be able to comfortably fit into junior socks?

Thanks for the help!

I'm about your size and I use 13" shins. I use the Reebok intermediates and they fit perfectly, a bit snug but not too tight...just right in my opinion. I've never tried on juniors but based how the intermediates fit me, I wouldn't bother trying myself.

If you're in the US just order some hockeytron SK100 socks - they come in 26", 28" and 30" sizes and are only $9.99. Right now you can use a code (Tron20 I think) to save an additional 20%. Based on what others close to your size are saying your best bet is the 28" size (which in most brands is intermediate - on hockeytron you just go to senior socks and then select 28" from the drop down).

Now, if you're not in the US then the shipping from hockeytron might be prohibitively expensive so you'll probably want to look for a brand like Kamazu or Firstar locally and find an intermediate size (I know Firstar makes intermediate sizes as I saw them at a local store a few months ago).

I use intermediates which are 28 inches and they work fine. I am 5-4, and 150 pounds. I took have 13'' shinguards and they work fine. In fact, they are a bit taunt which is nice as it holds the shins in place better and you don't really need to worry about taping up your legs. Good luck.

im almost exact same size, my intermediate 28" rbk socks are really tight on my 13" bauer shins i'd be scared to size down to a junior. i also have some 28" tron socks which fit a little wider and i think is my best fitting sock

I'm also 5'6" about 150 lbs and wear 13" Jr Reebok 9k shins. I find that retail intermediate edge socks fit perfectly over my shinguards with just enough length to either velcro to my shorts or clip to my garter. they don't bunch up or hang loose over my shinguards either.

I recently bought a pair of retail Jr sized edge socks since they were on clearance and over $10 cheaper than intermediates. I found that yes, they do fit. The length barely is over the top of my shinguards though and it's a tight fit to get them up over my shinguards. I really have to work them up to get them all the way up my leg. Once on, they don't squeeze too tight or are uncomfortable, and if I stretch my garter down I can still attach them. However, it just takes alot more effort to get them on due to the tightness of the socks.

One good point of the socks is that given how tight they are, I don't have to use any tape or straps to hold my shins in place. It's like wearing a shinguard sleeve as your socks lol.

Personally, I'd prefer the intermediates as it's just a real PItA to get the jr's on and off.
