Justin Bieber offered ECHL Contract...seriously.

Recommended Posts

yeah, give up making millions of dollars and having teenage chicks throw themselves at you to play ECHL hockey and deal with the guys that would love to make a name for themselves by taking you out. having him show up for a try out would be a publicity stunt, this is just a sad attempt at marketing.

What they should have done is let him play in a preseason game or something like that. Charge full admission. It'd be their best attended game all year. Sure, any guy would cry at the sight of the Bieber on Ice but in terms of kids buying tickets, it'd work. Here in Peoria, the best attended crowds never even saw the games as ownership would bring in a Disney star. 8,000 people paid for tickets to get in to see whoever; less than half stayed to watch the game. Tragic and sad but the team made money.

Depending on how much it cost them to get the person there for the appearance, they still may have lost money.

Chadd, I don't know what it costs but I do know they did several times throughout the year and the each time, team officials were happy as clams.

If they are already in the area, and promoting a project, it can be pretty cheap.

And you are probably right but minor leagues are known for such stunts. Look at having Michael Jordan play baseball or Eddie Gadel) the midget play for the Browns back in the day. Minor League teams have to do crazy things to get people into the stands. Case in point. we have a thread here with several posts about an ECHL team.

Justin Bieber hasn't been (allegedly) suspended from another sport for (allegedly) gambling.

...Jordan playing minor league baseball was not a publicity stunt. He actually made an attempt. His dad was a baseball guy and envisioned his son as a major leaguer. Manute Bol however would be another example of a publicity stunt.

Look, I think he's an idiot for trying as I think the posters above are right. Someone is going to want to be known as the guy who took out Justin Bieber. Hell, if he played in my rec league, I'd try. :) All I am saying is that it's good for the team to have people talking about it and if the Bieber were to make it onto the ice, they would sell out the arena that night.

Read the article again, he isn't doing it. This was just the team saying they will give him a contract if he wants to play.

Jordan playing baseball was just a way of killing time during his "suspension" from the NBA. I was going to mention the Manute Bol game but I also thing the last time Gordie Howe laced them up ranks up there when he suited up in a bus league for a game just to play professional hockey in his 7th decade. How would you have liked to be the guy who accidentally ran over Mr. Hockey?

I was so bummed when I read that story as I was actually considering going to some Condors games because it is the closest pro hockey to me. Now I think I'm good and will just go watch the local youth team play. The stuff teams will do for publicity I mean at least pick a celebrity who makes your fan base not want to puke...
