Miken hockey gone?

Recommended Posts

My Miken finally bit the dust and using the search to comment on the ZL thread I saw this thread. Its a shame that they went out but as others have said, people are stuck on the big brands and are not willing to give the smaller guys a shot. If what is above is true regarding the high MOQ, then they were dumb as they needed to focus more on exposure than profitability in the short term.

Need Help! Can MIKEN provide any sticks now or in the long run? I was about to start a discussion topic regarding this until I saw this thread.

Also, I emailed Miken (regarding retailers) on June 4, 2013 and have not had any response!

On a discussion group, a few weeks back, I was given some great HOPE about Miken. There I could find a stick to fit my size and weight (5'6" 135 lb small).

My hope was that the Miken sticks had the ability to put me into an int. composite stick at a 60 flex without lopping 7" off the normal (int. 62" - 60 flex) sticks. This is what I did and ruined my new Intermediate Bauer Supreme TotalOne. After 3 or 4 cuts, I was left with a flex of 75+ (too stiff). The normal junior sticks, at 50 flex, were out of the question as they are far too flexible for my weight.

There is a school of thought that 1/2 your weight should equal your optimal flex and it so happens I fit this model - 1/2/ 135 lb = 60-65 flex. This flex is perfect for me at a stick length of 56-57" from toe on the floor to just below my chin on bare feet.

I WAS READY TO ORDER, BUT...when I started to search for retailers there was suddenly little to be found and when I did find a retailer there was only a small selection, like three! Some sites that had plenty, weeks before, now have none. There was a Intermediate Acculflex 2.0 that looked good for me, but I understand now that there may be some question of durability of all the sticks.

My hope is now gone for a suitable stick. Is there any other manufacture out there that can do anything like Miken was able to supply. If I can get any help on this issue it will be greatly appreciated, I have been fighting this issue since the advent of the the composite sticks years ago and do not want to revert to the wood variety.

Thanks - Alan

Well, considering a lot of hockey players are brand hooked (orient made stuff too), and not willing to try new brands, it would not surprise me.

A lot of people are not willing to spend $200+ on a product from a company they might never have heard of.

I personally think the ZL is a fantastic stick, but I can understand the reluctance to buy one.

I have just got some information off another forum indicating that the Warrior line and more likely the Base products might be the way for me to go.

I have quickly looked at both sites and the Base suited me the best. I am really glad to get all the help with our group, it just took going to different forums.

Personally, it wasn't the price tag that made me reluctant to get one but rather value and the issues with durability. The performance may have been truly excellent but if I'm not able to make the most out of the price I paid for, it isn't for me.
