Stick with good puck feel & pop

Recommended Posts

Been using a Ribcore recently and can't get used to it. To me, the blade feels like plastic when shooting and not nice and solid. What current model or last year's model stick(s) that some of you have used might fit the bill for what I'm looking for? I'm open to any brand.

I thought both the first gen Mako and Mako II both offered both great feel and pop. You can find Makos for cheap now. I also thought the AI9 had great feel for the puck and was an underrated stick. Another twig I'd recommend is the Widow, if durability isn't an issue.

I'd add to that list the RS or RS II, Total Ones and DT2's

really? RS and RSII for feel? I've had both, never thought they were anything special in that regard. great pop, just not sure about the feel.

I, and many of the guys I play with, felt the RS line gave a more traditional feel of the puck due to the materials Easton used in the blade (I still use an RS for ice - Makos / TotalOnes / others for inline). Whereas other models like the Ribcore or Ax1 are at the other end of the spectrum that gives some of us the impression of a plastic like blade.

However, like anything one uses, it's all down to personal preference and every player will have a different opinion.

widow was the best for me. the mew covert line is good as well but it loses a touch of the natural touch.

I loved my widow for wrist shots, never could really lay into a slapper with it, but it was great for everything else.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I was using widows past year and like Chadd said they were great on wristers but slappers just fair plus blade cracking issues.

same here. ever since i stopped using wood sticks my slapper went to hell. i do still practice it but i pull it off way better on one timers and in game than i ever can in practice. i must be thinking too much into it. but through this time my wrister has become a laser so i use the slapper less and less.

also widows are on mega clearance on hockey monkey so you can stock up as well or try the DT1 which is a huge improvement for durability and is also on sale in most places.

Not gonna lie, the Nexus feels spectacular. I think they have the same blade as the TotalOne except feels a bit more natural. Might have to go up a flex rating for more pop though as they run softer.

The nexus is a good stick but I think you may be mistaken. I think the nexus has the blade of the apx and the square shaft, minus corner splines of the TO. And also depending on the stick they are using now Bauer flexes usually feel stiffer than most, I havnt played with the nexus but using a TO and an apx and feeling the nexus flex in the store it's similar.

Nope.

Nexus has the AeroFoam II and the Power Core 4 Blade and .520 Shaft Dimension like the TO, just without the Tac-Spiral. It's a "Tru-Mid" flex which ends up feeling a bit softer than the TO's Amplified Midkick, which rocks a bit more pop on shots, while the Nexus plays a tad more like old school wood sticks (something they tout in their promos). I've played a 67 Flex TO before, and after switching to the Nexus found it much whippier and more "natural" in my hands.

Chadd, did your widows run out? What are you using now?

For original poster. Covert DT1 or LT, warrior Dynasty, Easton V9e. That's what I've settled on.

I broke my second custom Widow, I still have one non-grip retail Vanek. I went back to my R2XN10 shafts. One with a Warrior Vanek retail and the other with a Warrior Delmore pro stock blade.
